From their conversations it sounds like if they'd been in touch at all, it had been minimal. I get the impression Janette had been running The Raven a while already, and we know Nick had been in town at least two years. Perhaps he was avoiding her because he was trying to fight his vampirism, so why would he go to a vampire hangout and visit with his seductive ex-girlfriend? >When had they been in contact last? Was it Nick's choice or Janette's? Dunno. We *do* know that the trio (Nick, Janette, and LaCroix) were hanging out together as recently as the 20th century. Maybe the show does tell us, but I'm not remembering? >What had Janette done with her life (in addition to her fan fic shopping and >fashion addiction)? I like to think she's not that shallow! We know she has been a patron of the arts, knew Leonardo DaVinci... And I like to speculate that the Raven is not the first business she has owned. >Was she a strong vampire on her own or was she only a reflection of her >master? Janette is *definitely* a strong vampire on her own! You can see glimpses of that in the way she runs the Raven, getting the other vampires there to behave themselves while under her roof. And she can certainly take charge of Nick! Watch the episode "A Fate Worse Than Death" to see plenty of Janette being strong, both as a mortal and as a vampire. >Why did Nick believe she shared his interest in a cure? Because he was being seriously delusional. :-) >How did she really feel about LC? My guess is she and LaCroix get along pretty well. They both like being vampires. They both also have a weakness for Nickolah, which gives them something in common (and how many hours have they spent commiserating over Nick's aberrant behavior? :-) ) Just my opinions, of course! :-) Lynne Ravenette and Immortal Beloved :-[ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jun 2000 17:27:12 -0700 From: Kyer <kyer@p.......> Subject: Re: Janette questions Lynne theoried: > Chances are he sensed her presence. I doubt that Nick was even that sensitive to their bond until LaCroix showed up again in Killer Instinct. Maybe they crossed paths accidently. > >Had they been in touch prior to his arrival at the Raven in DK? Again, in Dark Knight I'm pretty positive that Janette commented on not having seen Nick since his last incarnation in Chicago. Nick, in turn, joked about the baseball field there getting lights after he left. > >When had they been in contact last? Was it Nick's choice or Janette's? Since Janette was probably dragged along with LaCroix, it was likely *LC's* choice that they met in Chicago. I am not too familiar with the city (I've only been there once) and I plan to park at the garage right by the CN Tower becasue we also plan to go up to the top. Finally for my own info (to plan out our day) how long do the tours usually last? Thanks. I don't think his nobility was ever stated but...my understanding, though I may be wrong...I don't do my Roman history paper till next semester.<eg> But to be the equivalent to an officer in the Roman Army, one either slogged up the ranks...which was rare...especially to General...or was inducted through birth right. Sons of a noble house would enter the army at a higher rank than the average man. But here's what I can pull out of my hat: Vesuvius erupted in 79 CE; if we judge by NB's age at the start of the series, Lucius would have been in his early 40s. He could have started his army career at about 18 or so. Given that advancement in the upper ranks (what we call 'commissioned officers' nowadays) depended on connections as well as performance, he could have risen to General in about 15 years or so. His "provincial" status--being from Pompeii rather than the city of Rome itself--may have hindered his progress somewhat. (Though he was obviously a successful general, in order to afford to buy a slave who could sculpt, and then waste the expense by having the man blinded.) The reference to his campaigning in Gaul in AtA is, IMHO, erroneous, since Gaul was conquered much earlier by Julius Caesar and by the time Lucius was a general the only conflicts in Gaul were minor uprisings. My theory is that Lucius served under Tiberius in the war in Judea, then aided him in Roman politics by helping to topple Nero, which eventually put Tiberius on the throne. But it's just a theory. <g> ===== Molly/StormBorn FKPagan/Cousin/Seducer/Ravenette/DT/Who's Army Legionnaire the_stormborn@y.......
