Vesuvius erupted on the 24th of August 79AD.

I think that LC was about 45 when he was brought across. This is actually
kind of old to still be in service. Most legionaries spent 25 years in the
military athen retired with a small pension.
One(of higher status) could join the academy at 15 to begin intensive
training to become an officer, this is most likely what LC did. By 79AD I
would think LC would have been a general for a while.
But in LC's case his position of power and noblity could very well have him
leading armies until the day he died....<eg>

Angel couldn't get himself out of a steel cage. Any of the FK ones would've
been out of it really quickly. What fun is being a vampire if you can't fly

Well, they seem to buy the argument, at least as far as it applies to
vampires in general. I just read that the Sci-fi channel is going to be
doing a miniseries involving vampires, called "Ultraviolet", beginning on
July 31.

I don't know if I should feel hopeful that at least they're doing something
about vampires, or mad that they're doing this, but wouldn't do the three
FK movies that Tri-Star wanted.

I suspect "Ultraviolet" is more of the scary monster vampire sort of thing,
though.

Subject: Which came first, FK or PN Elrod

Considering our recent thread of vampire detectives, I decided to contact PN
(Pat) Elrod and see which came first, FK or her series. Here's what she said:

"When the first Nick Knight pilot was broadcast with Rick Springfield I gave
out a hearty groan, because I knew my books would be accused of ripping off
the idea. I just didn't know it would happen 12 years after the event! <G>

The truth is my first Vampire Files novel Bloodlist, had been finished by
1986 and sold along with 5 others to Ace Science Fiction on April 25, 1988.

Bloodlist was published and selling off the racks in April/March of 1989.

The Springfield pilot aired August 20, 1989.

As the time it takes for filming an post-production work is great, there was
NO way the original pilot could have been developed, shopped around, sold,
and produced in a mere 6 months. Hollywood can hussle when it wants to, but
not, I think, in this case.

My information sources are the contract I have with Ace, which I've just
taken from my file cabinet to check, and the dating for the pilot is from The
Vampire Gallery, Who's Who in Vampire Video by J.Gordon Melton, an exhaustive
researcher. By the way, he asked me this same question about which came
first and got the same story.

This was a case of great minds--me & James Parriott--thinking (almost) alike.
I watched the pilot and decided that there were more differences than
similarities between the two concepts. I am still a great fan of the TV
series.

About 2 years later I was accused by a reviewer of ripping off Lee Killough's
vampire cop novels, Bloodhunt (1987) and Bloodlinks (1988)--the publication
of both predate the 1989 Springfield pilot and my books.

News of Lee's books even existing was a big surprise to me; I'd never heard
of them. (blame her apathertic publisher and crappy covers for her small
sales. I had to find my copies in a library and a used bookstore) In this
case there are numerous similarities between the concepts, and Lee's
definitely came first!

I wrote to Lee to let her know I'd NO idea she'd had two vampire cop novels
out--this was long after my 3rd novel had hit the racks! She and I struck up
a correspondence and mutual admiration society and are still good buds. I'm
glad to report that her novels have been re-released as a trade paperback by
Meisha Merlin Publishing, Inc. with a MUCH better cover and are well worth
reading. (My copy's autographed by both the author and artist--hee-hee!)

(Libs' note: Pat included a link to www.amazon.com that didn't cut and paste
correctly, but Lee's books should be available there)

For those interested in seeing Nigel Bennett, John Kapelos, & Jim Byrnes (Joe
from Highlander) "guest starring" in one of my books, I invite everyone to
pick up a copy of THE DARK SLEEP, which is now in paperback. All the
gentlemen in question were aware of being "cast" in the plotline and were
pleased with my tip of the hat for their inspiration of 3 characters in the
story.
(Libs' note: Pat included a link to www.amazon.com that didn't cut and paste
correctly, THE DARK SLEEP should be available there)

And for other news--Nigel and I have finished the 2nd Richard Dun novel-His
Father's Son, and the cover is by good bud Jamie Murray. You can see samples
of Jamie's other works at: <A HREF="http://www.xim.com/Jamieart.asp">XIM Art
Centre</A> (http://www.xim.com/Jamieart.asp) and <A
HREF="http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/suehaley/lair.htm">MYHR'S LAIR</A>
(http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/suehaley/lair.htm). He is also offering
"Prince of the City" a wonderful portrait of LaCroix and Nigel, which
prompted me and Nigel to ask Baen Books to hire Jamie for the job. The cost
of a print is very reasonable and for a small addition, Jamie will matte them
for you. Jamie is also planning to sell prints of the bookcover, once the
publisher is finished with the original. You can contact him via either of
those sites for more information.

I am in the process of finishing a novel about Quincey P. Morris, the Texan
in Dracula, bringing him back as a vampire. In a costume party sequence I
have him briefly encountering a "tall, imperious looking blond man dressed as
a crusader" --by the name of Lord Richard d'Orleans. I thought it'd make a
cool in-joke for my and Nigel's readers! Further information on His Father's
Son may be found at Nigel's website.

Cheers and Grins-- Pat

I just want to add that everyone should check out Jamie's magnificant art!
He's not only talented but a heck of a gentleman of the nicest sort!

to turn Spike into a good guy by implanting a V-chip in him. There's no

Hume Cronyn made the best movie -- Alfred Hitchcock's 1943 masterpiece
Shadow of a Doubt. Victor Garber, with a slice of the 'berg in Titanic, is
part of the biggest. Alexander Knox made a big noise with an Oscar
nomination, but for the incredibly dull Wilson. And John Kapelos played in
more decent movies than anybody will ever give him credit for.

Having had first hand experience myself. (Our family home is at the base of
Mt Ruapehu which has erupted several times in the past 3 years...)

It is very irritaing, and if it were still hot, as much of Vesuvius' was,
then I would think it very difficult to see anything. The ash is is full of
arseinc, so it's not great to eat)<g> and is so very fine(much finer than
sand, almost like a gritty talcum power or a fine dust) it gets into
*everything!*
The only way to get around when the wind was blowing the stuff your way, was
to wear swimming goggles and a face mask.

At night especialy you could see the lava and lightening clashing at the
summit and hear the booms all night long. And yes there was a time when we
decided to head for the car and get out of town. Most of the day you could
see the great billows of ash erupting. It was really an awe inspiring sight.

Violence chip; it's a chip they put in TVs nowadays that you can program
to refuse TV programs with ratings higher than you wish to go. For example,
if you set it to TV-14, it will reject programs with ratings of TV-MA, R,
X, and NC-17. In Spike's case, if he attempts to harm any human being,
the chip hurts him.

I read that "Ultraviolet" is going to be a re-vamped version of the series
produced in the UK. It was very much in the 'no reflection' style of
vampire, and most of the angsting was done by the mortals. Enjoyable, but
*cold*, and not a patch on FK.

I think that where FK scores over many vampire-related series, and maybe
what has counted against it with TPTB, is that it is not aimed at a teenage
audience. That's my 2 pence.

I agree, but in the pilot with Rick Springfield, the make-up is exactly what
we are seeing today in Buffy and Angel. I think that the vampires in FK
looking so *human* even when they vamp out is a reminder that there may be a
beast found in most humans if the right buttons are pushed.

Subject: Blitzing for the Knight: June 12-24!

Hi all fans of the Knight!

The blitzing has STARTED! Get ready to blitz this month's two most
important powers! Tristar and Sci-fi!

It looks like these blitzes we have been doing are getting some attention!
So we at KtK, are going to turn them into a monthly routine. This month we
are focusing on the two main powers, Tristar and Sci-fi.

Its going to be a double dose of e-mails from each of you the fans that
would love to not only have FK back on Sci-fi's schedule, but want to make
sure everyone knows that we are want more FK with the original cast in new
episodes and or movies!! So, what do you say? Are you ready to sit down,
take that few minutes and send off two e-mails? It could make all the
difference in the world!

Remember, say a little or say a lot, but say it!! We can make more FK
happen!!!

June 12th, through June 24th, we are asking everyone to blitz both
feedbacks!!! For the two weeks, you can re-use the e-mails you did before,
or write new ones. They can be long, or as short as just saying, "Bring Back
Forever Knight."

ALSO REMEMBER!! Sci-fi will be changing its schedule around in June, and
again in the fall.... lets make sure that we get Forever Knight on!!!

Sci-Fi's E-mail: feedback@w.......

Sony/Tristar Mail Form: http://www.spe.sony.com/spe/help_feedback_index.html

When e-mailing TriStar,(especially) give as much personal info as you
can...rather than just an e-mail name. A bit more personal carries more
weight with TPTB.

I also made a button/banner for the upcoming blitzing, which you can use
to help spread the word, by putting this on your site (you can get off my save
fk page).

I will be posting reminders every few days for the blitz.

Long Live the Knight!

Pigs is pigs and rules is rules. Here are ours. :) -- McLisa

For information on managing your subscription and on listserv commands,
please see Don Fasig's page
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7139/fk-lists.htm

1. No flames on list. FLAMERS MAY BE SET NOPOST. THE NOPOST MAY BE
PERMANENT.

2. Please don't quote more than four lines of a previous post
in replying. If you have more than one point to answer, then you may quote
the relevant four lines for that point also.

3. Limit sigs to 6 lines. This includes all information, decoration
quotations and blank lines. Your name and address count as part of
the six. If you sign your name on a separate line above the body of
text, your name and the blank line or lines between count as part of
the six line limit. If you have one of those services that insists
on putting an advertising tag on the end of posts, don't worry. I
realize you can't control that and it doesn't count as part of your
sig.

4. Please don't send to the whole list when you are only talking to the
person who wrote the post you are answering.

5. Advertising on list is on a case by case basis. Please consult the
listowners, Lisa McDavid, mclisa@m....... or Don Fasig,
phase3@g....... for permission.

6. This list is for the discussion of Forever Knight. Cast, crew, staff
and producers in connection with what they're doing now or have done in
the past are ok. Vampires in general are _NOT_ ok except in relation
to Forever Knight.

7. Off-topic posts are not allowed, no matter what they are about or
how urgent the warning may appear. If you have an off-topic post which
you think should appear on the list, ask one of the owners for permission.

8. The private lives of the cast are not a discussion topic. Occasionally
one of the fan club presidents will make an announcement, but other than
that, we leave the cast their privacy.

9. Con announcements must come from con officials or a designated
liaison and must be kept brief. Cons are only announced on list if there
is a connection to FK.

10. Only fan club presidents or other designated spokespeople may
make announcements of future projects for FK cast, crew and staff,
before said projects have been released or written about in the
media.

11. No role-playing on Forkni-l. This includes no character names as
pseudonyms or posing as a character.

12. Each subscriber is limited to five posts per day on Forkni-l.

I'll be happy to explain the reason for any of the above if asked.

Thanks!

From: Bob Cradock <cradock@s.......>
Subject: Top 10 List: Vampire Hockey

I was watching the Stanley Cup Finals over the weekend, and I was
amazed at how much Larry Robinson (the coach of the New Jersey Devils)
looks like Nigel Bennett. Every time they showed the bench, with
his peaked gray hair, upright bearing, and old-style-sophisticated
suits, I had a YKYBWTMFK moment.

It got me thinking. Could hockey be a suitable occupation
for a vampire? The games are indoors and usually at night (or
pre-dawn, if you're a youth coach getting cheap ice time). The
players glide swiftly from place to place, so a quick swoop wouldn't
be too noticeable. The low body temp could be explained by the
freezing arena. So I came up with ...

The Top 10 Differences if Vampires Played Hockey

10. Sudden death overtime wouldn't necessarily be the end.

9. Ticket disclaimers would warn of the dangers of flying pucks,
     sticks, and players.

8. Most popular merchandise? Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils.
     Least popular? Calgary Flames.

7. Play-by-play announcers would have to find another term for
traversing the blue line besides "brought across".

6. Each team would have an Enforcer who really Enforced.

5. Goalies wouldn't be the only ones wearing neck protectors.

4. Hockey players would have more teeth than the average person,
     not fewer.

3. Cross-checking would be a major penalty

2. Spearing would be a game misconduct penalty.

1. That's not champagne they're drinking out of the Stanley Cup.
