Absolutely wonderful series for the most part and a lot of fun, too. > To bring this post back on topic, what do people think about the possibility > of Nick being a private investigator in one of his previous "lives"? I can't see Nick turning down any case where there was a chance he could legitmately help someone and thus somehow "repay society for his sins." Of course he'd HAVE to turn down any that included spying on someone in the middle of a desert at noon<wRPg> --Libs ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2000 20:43:59 EDT From: Laudon1965@a....... Yeah, pretty much. Though the Faith story arc was rivetting IMO. In fact, Faith, especially this season's 3 eps with her was simply an amazing character. In that arc Faith, who had become evil for awhile (though she got pushed to it darn it!) fights kicking and screaming back towards semigood. It isn't a clean or absolute fix either, she wants to do good but still has the instincts and urges to kill and maim. If there is one character who'd fit easily into the FK world it's Faith. Meanwhile, 'monst regulars, Cordelia's relasionship with Angel often reminds me of both Tracy and Nat's. Tracy's loyalty to her partner despite not knowing exactly what's going on (HF) mirror's Cordelia's loyalty to Angel despite that she doesn't know if at what point, if ever, he could switch back to his evil ways. Cordelia, though way more ditsy than Nat, shares the coroner's sharp one liners and basic belief that her friendly neighborhood bloodsucker's good side will always win out against the darkness. And lots of people have already pointed out that Detective Kate Locksley and Detective Tracy Vetter, both being youngish blonde female cops who like to crack sarcastic comments, have cop fathers, and aren't quite sure they trust the handsome dark hared vampires in their lives, are pretty darn close. Actually, my friend Melissa who runs a huge Cordelia site, often messes up and calls 'Tracy' 'Kate' when we're talking about our pages ;-) hugs! Cousin Mary anteros@j....... Hope this is of help to some of you. Laurie of the Isles <<From: AmilynH@a....... To: the_morgue@u....... Subject: FYI: New fanfic medical reference list I have just started a group on egroups called: fanfic_med@e....... This list is for discussion of research options for medical aspects of fanfiction in the interests of more realistic depiction of medicine. It is aimed at people who write (or edit!) fanfiction and include medical information--when characters are injured or ill, for use in fanfic about doctors, or as part of historical information in period pieces. People on this list may be able to supply advice on specific medical issues (we already have several doctors and nurses). If they cannot, they may direct questioners to research materials. Netiquette is strictly enforced; no me-too posts, no over-quoting, use private mail when indicated. At this time, this is an open list. Anyone here is welcome to feel free to join, but should feel under no obligation to do so; I'm announcing this as a service, not a guilt-trip. :-) Do feel free to pass this information on to anyone you believe would be interested. In Fred Saberhagen's New Dracula Series, Vlad himself assists the Chicago PD in supernatural detective work. Lee Killough has 3 novels out about a vampire detective Garreth Mikaelian in the southwest. I believe all of these predate FK. Saberhagen's came out in the early '80s, and Killough's came out in '87. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 1980 07:00:53 -0600 From: Angela Gottfred <agottfre@t.......> Subject: Re: Elrod and FK Elrod's first book (Vampire Files #1) was published in 1991, according to the info at my local Chapters store. Subject: Re: vampire detectives I was thinking primarily of Lee Killough's Gareth Mikaelian [sp?] dyad. Wonderful novels (there is finally going to be a third, though I don't think the pub date has been announced). << Elrod's books do date from several years earlier than FK, except, of course, for the one she co-wrote with Nigel Bennett. She is and was a fan of FK, as anyone who ever met her at a con found out. >> If my reference source is correct, the original NICK KNIGHT movie aired in 1989, so Elrod's "Vampire Files" postdate that pilot but predate the actual series (1992 on). Tanya Huff's vampire detective series (the vampire is the human female ex-cop detective's sidekick -- set in Toronto!), beginning with BLOOD PRICE in 1991, also predates the FK TV show. Also before FK, I'm pretty sure, were a pair of vampire cop novels by Vincent somebody (I think), which I considered fairly awful, no doubt the reason why I can't remember the author or title. There's a delightful DAW anthology edited by Martin Greenberg, VAMPIRE DETECTIVES, published in 1995, therefore of course post-FK, which is of interest because it contains an Elrod story, as well as providing a fun overview of the now-popular vampire/mystery cross-genre field. (However, the title isn't quite accurate, since several of the stories don't feature the vampire as the detective, but simply as an element in the mystery.) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 22:56:33 -0500 From: Lisa Luksus <tokaara@m.......> Subject: Re: How about Angel AND FK? FK vamps are much, much harder to kill and have greater powers than the Buffy vamps -- they don't turn into dust when staked (just ask LC!), they can fly, and they can move so fast they're invisible to the human eye. Buffy vamps haven't shown any such power, and they seem to be only a few notches stronger than humans.
