Parasite drag adds to the speed of the 'aircraft.' So a vamp would have little parasite drag as their mass is a lot less than an airplane. Lift is exerted on the wings of a plane. It would have to be exerted on the vamp's entire body, so would drag. So I'd imagine that lift would be almost non existent when a vamp flies since they don't fly with their arms extended. Unless of course they can control their body weight and make themselves lighter, therefore less weight to induce greater lift. Wish I were in college now to ask one of my professors. I think they'd be pretty stumped at this one. I could look into it if anyone who like. KnightWitch ;-]= ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 17:41:48 EST From: Dolpfin220@a....... Well, I've come up with several ideas (Prepare for hurricanes of cheddar...) :) Like Superman, they're built to withstand the higher gravity of planets such as Krypton. Since the Earth's gravity is so much less they can just lift off the ground at will by doing a slight push off. Or maybe it's self-telekenesis. "Ok body, FLOAT!" Or maybe they're really jumping, but they've got such good quads that they can jump _really_ far and fast, so much so that they can overcome gravity's downward pull (physicists, please don't attack me here, I know this is ludicrous :) ... Cheesy or not, I'd >> love to hear them. Well, the answer is obvious, really. You see, we don't know when the first vampires were formed, but since Divia's master was already an "ancient", we know it has to have been a *really* long time ago. At this time, magical powers were simply accepted by most people as being the cause of many phenomena in the universe. Furthermore, no one knew what gravity was (though they probably realized that things tended to go down.) Because of these things, the first vampires could just use the magical powers in existence, and the lack of gravity, to fly. Since vampire progeny are not formed by the duplication of genetic material, there were no opportunities for mutations or evolution among the population. Therefore, despite the fact that the majority of people now believe in gravity and not magic, vampires can still fly. See, wasn't that clear? ;-) Amanda ps--I'll take mozzarella. Although I was fortunate enough to see TOTFC at the Cumberland 4 on a visit to Toronto last Wednesday during March Break, I couldn't write a review to save my life. Yours hit all the points that I wish I had remembered well enough to recount to others. I really think the movie requires several viewings to take in everything that was going on. And, regardless of my nephew's opinion (15 yrs old), it WAS funny. I was one of an audience of 12 including my nephew. I laughed out loud on several occasions, but I think I was the only one. Of course, your definition of funny may have to be pretty specific. For instance, I think Hell Comes to Frogtown (starring the wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper) is hilarious and still laugh over the "hand" grenade joke in Death Race 2000. This is not an Austin Powers type funny, or even one of Leslie Neilsen's parodies although it IS supposed to be a parody of those 50's sci-fi horror flicks. And on a specifically FK sites theme, I very much enjoyed my visit to the ROM ... and the Egypt in the Time of the Pyramids Exhibit (shades of Divia!). No time to contact the Toronto contingent for a tour, but then I'm not observant enough to recognize most of the sites to start with. :) If you go to visit the CN tower, get the family rate if you can ($40 for 4 people to go to the Lookout, rather than the $15.99 per person rate). Actually, I have thought about this one before, and came up with a strange point of view on it.(actually, it's my rationalization for a vampire book I'm working on...) Anyhoo, before I digress too far... Ok...when a person is changed into a vampire, their body shuts a lot of things down...breathing, heat in the body, etc. This leaves more of the brain open for other things (like humans use a lot anyway..not quite 10% of their brains on the average). Since some parts are shut down with vampirism, perhaps the 'virus', or whatever, not only changes the body, but opens up different portions of the mind and allows the person to access some of the long dormant abilities accessible in the brain that we think are impossible. For instance: It is a long standing belief that people cannot walk on fire. However, it has been documented that people can and do build fires, rake out the hot coals and walk on them. This is *not* a faked thing, as I am a firewalker myself. So if a mere mortal can overcome just a minute thing like that, imagine if the vampiric 'virus' has the ability to open new avenues within the mind and allow a vampire to actually do things like directed levitation? Anybody understand that? Boy, I sure can babble... Tab (back to lurk mode now) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 00:19:55 EST From: MadiHolmes@a....... Not only from people with no credit cards, but also those without internet access, those who only have access to public terminals, those without secure access, people whose computers aren't up to running the software, and people running unsupported platforms. Also, considering how big the web is, there's no effective way of telling all the potential customers out there. If I hadn't stumbled across the first book in a book store, I wouldn't have known about the original 3 books. The chances of anyone doing that on the web are going to be a lot lower, even on a well known site like amazon. Then there's the little fact that a well taken care of book will still be available for people to read in the future, but backwards compatability of software is very iffy and the technology is still progressing very quickly. >Authors *love* to get paid for what they write. Your evidence for the idea of a choice is good too, though now that I think how not all people have NDE, (or maybe we just don't know about them) maybe not all vamps have one either. just a thought. >Well, the guides in Nick's 2 NDE's looked different<snip>like LC, and don't >know if he had any reason to expect>the first "guide" <snip>We don't know if >Nick's 'belief system' and>Janette's would have included the NDE, and my >guess is the he & she would maybe have seen an angel or something The distinction i was making was between Nick's first ND experience, which I believe was real, and the second, which, I realize I wasn't clear about, wasn't really a NDE b/c I don't believe Nick was dying. It's pretty hard to kill vamps, as we know, and who knows how accurate that thing-a-mijig that woman made was even for humans, how could they know how it would read a vampire? Sure Nick's body was in shock and possibly damaged, but just like from any other injury, he would likely recover. However, in the state he was in, i believe he had a hallucination. To me, that explains the use of LC as Guide, since he has been ever-present in Nick's life. And it was similar, structurally, to his previous NDE, which his mind drew on. Yeah, it was also similar to the landscape the other victims of the TAM (that's thing-a-majig ;-) dreamed/experienced, but to me that's plot twist stuff. (aka, time for the cheese sticks- oh! you mean you've already got them out? goodie!) To me, the message he received from his Guide was so in sync with what Nick NEEDED and WANTED to hear, that i think it must have come from his own mind. He truly believes that he has lots more to make up for, that despite what good he's done, it's not enough, and that's exactly what the Guide told him. Too close for me to buy it. > >Janette told Nick that she, too, had a 'near death experience' and >that LaCroix 'called her back'. Yes, and i believe she did. BTW, Kyer said, regarding this discussion: >I agree with Monica <gasp! multiple-Personae fall into a faint> because my >Paranoid Personae says all episodes that feature creepy crawlies (like worms >and Nightcrawlers)[<--very cute Kyer!] cannot possibly bode any good >whatsoever. Someone hand me a crash cart! :-D Even Kyer and I can agree on some things. Although, of course, I would *rather* have all eps feature creepy crawlies - at least of the Nightcrawler type!! <beg> monica luscious luicus lover ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 10:11:38 -0600 From: Monica Thadine Rodriguez <mrodri14@u.......> Subject: Re: Lacroix's age Libratsie@a....... wrote: >My view is that LaCroix is "2000" as in the sense that we tend to round off long numbers to make them more impressive, less impressive, or just easier to say. Saying LaCroix is 2000 doesn't mean he's quite there yet, it is just easier to say than, for example, LaCroix is 1951 (just going on the totally random age of 35 in 79 AD and using 1995 as the year his age was stated). > Libs' comment brought a question to mind. What do any of you think about how FK vamps measure their ages? Do they consider themselves the sum of their mortal and immortal years? Or do they start counting all over again once they become vamps? Or does it perhaps depend on the vamp how they measure their age? Is there any canon evidence for the way to measure their ages? filled with questions, monica luscious lucius lover ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 11:46:47 -0600 From: Monica Thadine Rodriguez <mrodri14@u.......> Subject: YKYBWTMFK... maybe not watching these days, but... I was wathcing highlander, and i kept having FK flashbacks in this ep. It started when i saw in the credits that GWD would be in the ep. It was weird enough seeing him, but when he said, "I have to do it, for Janette" (paraphrased!) that was *too* weird. Then the final blow came when the murderer came to kill the priest. The room was dark, but the man had close cropped light hair and a long face, and he was dressed in black (a priest!). If you haven't figured out yet, I thought it was LaCroix/NB for a second! It was too much! i must be in withdrawal... monica luscious lucius lover ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 16:11:09 -0600 From: Kristin Harris <kris1228@s.......> Subject: Your Weekly Vote & FK's *Dropped* Position Hi!
