For those of you interested in (and authorized to) read Adult fic, I
commend to your attention the writings of Mistress V, aka Vicki Pasek,
which you will find posted on Jadfe in the Nick and Natalie section. Her
1999 writings include a series of stories about Nick and Nat that are
full of humor and joy as well as romance.

Vicki doesn't post to the other lists, so many of you may not have
encountered her writing!

I was "nomail" on forkni-l, but a very kind and thoughtful person alerted
me to this thread, and I went "digest."

I only sent two pieces to fkfic-l in 1999: "That Ain't Love," a
song-challenge story, and "Longer than the Medicis," a pentameter poem.

Anyone interested may find both items on my FK fiction page at
<http://users.lanminds.com/~akr/fk/fiction/> and in Mel's archive. My
older Net fanfic appears in both places as well.

Best wishes,

Thanks so much, Lindy, for sharing this article; I hope Sandi Ross and Alison
Sealy-Smith are successful in getting the Obsidian Theatre Company off and
running soon. It's sad to know that there are still people out there that
display their ignorance by making remarks such as the one mentioned in the hate
mail received by Stratford artistic director
Richard Monette; kudos to Alison for dismissing the remarks as atypical.

I always enjoyed Sandi's too brief appearances as Grace; it's too bad we didn't
see more interaction between Grace and Nat in some episodes.

I'm a little confused about this. Was this supposed to be a comprehensive
list of the posts everyone has already dropped to the list? If so, my stuff
is missing. If not, are we supposed to add to the list?

I answered this on list in case anyone else is wondering about this.

If you're pulled over in Canada (and regrettably I have :-) ), these are
usually the first two things that the cop will ask you for. It's a very,
very good bet that you will also be asked for proof of insurance coverage.

In Ontario, as I recall, if you don't have your license and/or proof of
insurance, you are given a ticket on the spot (although I wonder how they
give you a ticket without a license or some other identification, hmmm...?
Maybe they'll take you in? Luckily, I've never been in THIS predicament
before!!). You have 48 hours (or maybe 24, I don't remember) to bring your
missing documentation along with the ticket to any police station, and
they'll cancel the ticket.

>Plus license plates both front and rear.

While driving through southern Wisconsin (I was between Stoughton and
Janesville - any list members nearby?), I called in a police report (over
cellular) about a car with NO license plates. The lady who answered really
did not seem terribly interested. Hmmm....

Cheers,
W.

Because, at least in Arkansas, you have something like 10 days to get the car
licensed thus you do see a number of vehicles running around without licenses
on any given day. However, they do "spot check" vehicles to make sure you
have the proper paperwork proving ownership and date of purchase inside the
glovebox. I'm embarrassed to admit I ran a stop sign totally accidentally the
day after I'd purchased a vehicle several years ago. Fortunately, the cop was
very understanding and theorized (along with me) that I'd just looked down at
the still unfamiliar dashboard cheeking the speed as I DID slow and he could
tell I was looking downwards. He let me go ;-) I think a large part of it
being I was a very small woman looking meekly at him from the bench seat of a
very large pickup truck (which I don't have anymore and miss terribly).

You know, to get this back on topic, I wonder if Nick ever worked as a
traffic cop and how easy it'd be for someone he'd stop to "angst" their way
out of a ticket? "But... but... I was on my way to see a lady about a cure
for this ... drinking probably I have! I want my LIFE back again! Can you
understand??? CAN YOU???"

Something tells me Nick would!

Subject: Re: 1999 FKFanFic Awards (plus Master Sheet)

I got quite a few messages dealing with whether that
was complete. It's not. Not by a long shot. And I
apologize for giving that impression.

The intention of the Master Sheet is simply an
organizational tool for us, as writers, readers,
voters and nominators, to have something to reference
when nominating stories. There are several posts
missing and what I hoped was that if you all were
interested, let's consolidate and get what's been
written in one location so we all know what we can
nominate. ;-)

That's the idea for the Master Sheet. But it's a work
in progress, and it needs you guys to help round it
out and fill in what's not there. And from the
response, it sounds like you're all interested.

So let me make a proposal to you all.

Author Name

Stories the author has written (don't forget to add
what category it falls under)

where to find them (the urls)

Send me the information and I'll compile it into one
sheet. If the information grows vast, I'll create a
page for it and put it up on one of the sites
(depending on where it should be- ideally on Mel's,
but she's on vacation at the moment). If we jump on
it, we can get a pretty clear picture of what's
available to nominate all in one place, along with the
links to the stories (both at FKfanfic.com and at your
respective sites). That way we all get a chance at
being nominated and a chance to win an award.

So it's all up to you. But I think Lisa would
appreciate it very much if we found another format to
promote our works-

They can send the ticket to the address to which the license plate is
registered. BTW, this is how the patrolcar-less speeding tickets are
issued. (Radar notes speeding vehicle, camera takes photo of license plate
with clocked speed, ticket is automatically generated and sent to the
address to which the car is registered, along with a copy of the photo. My
understanding is that these tickets are unfightable. I think this is
already standard procedure in some parts of Germany, and there's been talk
of importing it to the US, if it's not already in place in some
jurisdictions here...)

I think driving without a license and registration may be an arrestable
offense in some US jurisdictions.

>>Plus license plates both front and rear.

Some states still only require a single license plate (rear). I'm not sure
that you can't purchase a front plate for these cars, but two-plate states
have to honor that a rear plate from a one-plate state is sufficient.

Dunno about *cars*, but it's my understanding that *farm equipment* does
not have the same restrictions as nonagricultural vehicles. In many rural
areas, they can travel the same roads that cars do, and you don't need a
license to operate them. I've been told that this (driving agricultural
vehicles on and off roads) is how many farm kids learn to drive...

Many states issue a temporary license that gives you from 10 to 30 days to
get your car registered and inspected and get permanent license plates.
Depending on the state, these can present as a card "license plate" with
hand-written or printed number, in the normal license plate position (e.g.,
Delaware), a slip of paper hanging in the rear window (e.g., New Jersey),
or an official letter sitting up front over the dashboard (e.g., Nevada).

'Course, Nick's biggest problem with the Caddy is going to be getting it to

In NZ it is sent to the registered owner of the car. Not the driver.
So dad is not in a good mood a few ays later when a fine for $200 bucks
turns up in the mail!<g>
The driver must produce a licence if asked or instant fine is given to them
personally. They will haul you downtown if you don't give any other ID and a
computer check comes up with nothing or outstanding warrents or fines etc,
or they may just prevent you from driving any further.

Just not having it on you will give you a fine. It's getting a bit Police
stat like here. In a gentle kind of way, but it's beginning to get a bit
disconcerting.

In fact, here in Germany the photo shows not only the licence plate, but
also the
driver's face (through the windshield). These tickets are not completely
unfightable,
but they are pretty tough to fight. You can try to claim faulty radar
equipment if the
speed given is outragiously high, or you can try to prove that the speed
limit was
lowered just previously to the radar equipment being installed and/or you
could not
notice the sign because it was hidden from view.

To keep this on topic: What would one of our favorite vampires do if they were
photographed by one of these contraptions *without* a car (running at vampire
speed, or flying to low)? Would Nick try to whammy the radar into giving him
the photo? ;-)

I have heard that we didn't see more of Grace because after the first season
they lost the writer who created her. Since you have to pay the writer each
time you use a character from his or her script in another show, this made
Grace a little more expensive to use.

Grace had so much potential! I wish they'd used her more.

Having been lucky enough to meet and talk a little with Sandi Ross at the FK
party at the first con where the show was represented. (Toronto Trek in
1993), I can testify that she has a great since of humor and would have made
a wonderful continuing character. Also, that she is much smaller than she
looked on screen and much prettier. (This is also true of Natsuko Ohama as
Amanda Cohen.)

I'm wondering why doesn't he have a faction? (or has he, only I don't know

I have a story with Liam in it, though he's not exactly a main character.
It's called Girls' Night Out, and it's at
