Subject: Forever Knight and Peanuts!

As I was all the much deserved tributes to Charles Schulz who died last night
the day before the last original Peanuts comic strip was published, I can't
help but compare segments of Forever Knight to the Peanuts world.

Nick is a lot like Charlie Brown. Very lovable, a hero and he doesn't realize
it, and yet still somehow a loser in his own mind. Every time he thinks he
is about to kick the football (regain his mortality), LaCroix (Lucy - !!!???
Lucian - Lucy!) pulls it away from his reach.

Or maybe his search for mortality is like the Little Red Head Girl that
Charlie Brown wants so much. Oh, and Schroeder (sp?) - he even looks a little
like Nick as he plays his piano!

Screed, to me, is a lot like Snoopy. Totally happy with who he is, having fun
in life, enjoying it to its fullest.

Screed's parting words can be paraphrased to fit Charles Schulz as well: It's
been a fine ride, kin't say much more than tha'.

Anyone else have any other FK/Peanuts comparisions?

Okay. But I still like my explanation better. ;)

Well, I'm sure you made the UFers very happy with your comparing Nick to
Schroeder and LaCroix to Lucy considering that Lucy was head over hills in
love with the young piano player.

Wouldn't Pig Pen be good for Screed? And there was that little blonde girl
who thought she was a princess. I can't remember her name, but she might be
good for Janette.
Schanke---Peppermint Patty. Scruffy to the max and somewhat dense at times,
but with a heart of gold.
Geez, I'm not up on my Peanuts. The little girl with glasses who hanged
with Patty--Marcia? She was more knowledgeable than the others, very
straightforward and scientific. Makes me think of Natalie.

Nick was a bit like Snoopy as they both had <heh heh> flashbacks.
Divia as the Evil Kite-Eating Tree!

Goodbye, Mr. Schultz. May you receive at least as much joy in Heaven as you
gave out on Earth.

Bowed,
Kyer

Yep. That was me. The lover of emoticans.
And I still think its important. The only times I ever received e-mail from
upset commentators was when I neglected to use emoticans. I tend to forget
that not everyone knows (like newbies?) who on the list are incorrigible
jokers and those that tend towards serious discussions. Save the whales,

Well, the only one I remember happened during one of the Wars over on
FKFIC-L. Nick actually wasn't in it. I was with a bunch of vampires in
Chicago, and one of them had a practical joke played on them. One of the
others said "That used to happen all the time when Nick Knight lived here."
Hmmm ... maybe that's more a case of the *lists* intruding on my
dreamlife. :-)

*Being* Nick, that's a new wrinkle. Sounds cool. Although I imagine the
"confronting Uncle" part must get a bit hair raising, (no pun intended) at
times.

I once had a crossover dream of Nick being the Phantom of the Opera (except
that he kept going out into sunlight). Nevertheless, it was truly odd.

Or Nat.

LInus is a little like Schanke. A little neurotic, but always there to help.

Any others?

It's not so far fetched <g>. If I remember my Latin, the vocative form of
Lucius is Luci, so that's how his friends would've addressed him!!
But the c is hard. Thank goodness <g>.

I'm not sure, but just this last week I was noting a lot of similarities to
FK, including the name 'Mollin' in at least some of the credits. Here are a
couple of others:
-There is a more vulnerable than he'd like 'villian' with spikey white hair
and a surprisingly soft heart.
-The show is set in Toronto, and opens with the moon rising over that
skyline we all know and love.
-The latest episode managed to tie the plays of Beckett, the robbery of an
armored car, and the phrases 'Hell is other people' and 'Zen bowel clench'
into one story line. Somehow, I could imagine this working in Forever
Knight!

Subject: Nigel in "Hamlet"

Hi, all! I had a wonderful week-end with Nigel fans. On Wed. night my
friend from Utah arrived. The next day we set off to the theatre to see
"Hamlet." We met two other FK fans at the box office, and had fun
chatting about RL and Nigel. We then went to the theatre and had fun
meeting another two Nigel folks.

It is wonderful to meet fellow fans--they make you feel at home right
away, and are super to talk to. My friend and I, as well as two other FK
fans, decided to sit in the front row. It was an EXCELLENT view. The
theatre itself is quite intimate--160 seats. The set designers made great
use of the space, though, and the costuming was very interesting. The
gentleman and ladies wore costumes reminiscent of the late 1800s or the
early 1900s. A very effective choice that emphasized the action of the
play.

We first see Nigel as "Claudius" with Gertrude, his new wife. They are in
a steamy clinch. Nigel and the actress who plays Gertrude do a super job
playing this up. Throughout the play Nigel does a great job portraying
Claudius as a man of strong emotion, but also a clear agenda.

He looks awesome with the beard--even though he told us he would shave it
off once this is over.

It is clear that Nigel is in his element on the stage. He has incredible
presence, and my favorite scene is one where Claudius is examining his
guilt in the murder of his brother. He does an amazing monologue, and
then prostrates himself on the floor. VERY powerful stuff.

All of the actors did a super job. Tom Barnett, who played Hamlet,
provided an ironic and powerful performance, and Patricia Zentilli, as
Ophelia, was superbly fragile. Nicola Lipman, as Gertrude, did an amzing
scene with Hamlet where she agonizes about her choices in life.

I was blown away by the performance, and then something very cool
happened. We met Nigel coming out of the theatre, and we spent a couple
of hours with him at a local bar, along with the actress who played
"Ophelia." Nigel opened the gifts that people had brought him, and was
very gracious in engaging us in conversation. What a wonderful sense of
humour!

The performance is obviously very exhausting--over 2.5 hours. It is also
very straining on the voice, but Nigel and Patricia were wonderful about
spending time with us and chatting. Nigel knew several of the fans who
were there, which was great.

The next day we attended another performance--opening night. Four of
us fans met for supper, which was lots of fun, as it was one of the
fan's birthdays. The pace
of the performance picked up a bit that evening, and it was action-packed.
A wonderful
piece of work! I was very happy to see each night that the audience was
very engaged.

Following the performance there was an opening night reception, and Nigel
was super about spending some time with us. We learned that after this
play, Nigel will be going to England to do a guest spot on a scifi series.
He also said that about 200 pages of the next KTK has been written, which
made me very happy. I also understand there is a possibiliy that it could
be turned into a series, perhaps an animated one.

The next day I didn't attend a performance, but we did have lunch with two
of the fans. Meeting Nigel and seeing him on stage was a thrill, but it
was also wonderful just to hang out with other fans, exchanging Nigel
tidbits and chatting about real life. I enjoyed myself immensely, and I
am looking forward to meeting more of you who are coming up!
