Subject: KtK auction update I have another update for everyone. There was an error in the last one, where I posted Sara wanted #8. That should have been #4. Sorry, Sara. <g> The web site is located at http://members.aol.com/AuctionKtK/ for anyone who wishes a more detailed description of the items. Becky has placed the latest posted bids on the site too. I'll check my email for any more bids around 7:30 and place another update on the bidders list only if warrented. A full update will be posted around 10pm, with another an hour later. Any last minute updates will depend on if there are bids still coming in or not. I'll be here, just in case. <g> The auction is scheduled to end at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time on Sunday. Make sure any bids you want to get in are sent out soon enough to make the deadline. We can't be responsible for any late misdirected or lost posts. Hope everyone gets the item they're after. <g> Sunday, February 6, 2000 6:00pm 1) $40.00 Tracy FK sign--autographed by Nigel Bennett 2) $100.00 [Name removed by request] Imported signed bottle of Chateau LaCroix new 3) $35.00 Kathy Ashes to Ashes script new 4) $160.00 Sara FK prop -- Nightcrawler photo 5) $175.00 Barb FK prop-- Raven glass 6) $45.00 Deanie FK prop-- evidence tag 7) $30.00 Karen Love You To Death script corrected 8) $50.00 Knight Ranger FK prop- bowling pic 9) $40.00 Diana FK tote bag 10) $30.00 Claudine Father Figure script 11) $200.00 anonymous FK prop--matchbook 12) $25.00 Judy Dying For Fame script 13) $20.00 Paula FK stickers 14) $100.00 Kalira Nick Calendar new 15) $150.00 anonymous FK Prop-- Trophy Girl newspaper Thank you everyone for bidding. Stone" <STONEB@g.......> Subject: Twinkie with candles I had always assumed that a single Twinkie could never support 30 candles and that that accounted for the use of a different cake for Nat's birthday. However, a disturbing suspicion kept nagging me: in a pinch, 30 candles would fit, if one was not too particular about the way the cake looked. I considered digging around in my old mail to find Brenda's beautifully scientific, metric account of a Twinkie's dimensions. Then I could measure a birthday candle, calculate the area of the bottom of a single candle, multiply by 30, and compare the result to the area of the top of a Twinkie. But I was far too lazy. Instead, I decided to part with some actual cash in order to buy a package of cakes that I don't really like just to experiment. My plans had to be put on hold for some time as I kept failing to arrive at the local grocery before the supply of Twinkies was gone. (Could have biked to another grocery, but again, I was lazy.) The project was nearly abandoned the day I discovered that the store was stocking Twinkies only in boxes of ten. The thought of having to consume ten of the dreaded cakes was too much for me. But perhaps certain members of my family could be persuaded to see to it that the other nine cakes did not go to waste.... When I got home and opened the box, I was horrified to find that the Twinkies in the giant economy package were considerably smaller than the Twinkies of my childhood. Had all Twinkies been downsized? Or was my memory faulty? I could have referred to Brenda's measurements, but by then, the old mail was even more thoroughly buried than before. If the experimental Twinkie failed to support 30 candles, I would never know if a "normal-sized" Twinkie would have been big enough. On the other hand, if I succeeded in finding room for 30 candles on this puny excuse for a filled sponge cake, then it would follow that any larger Twinkie could also hold 30 candles. Amazingly, I did take the trouble to extract an actual cake plate from beneath the stack of saucers--thought it would be nice to "do it with a little style" for Nat's sake. I placed the Twinkie carefully in the center of the plate and began to insert used* birthday candles into the cake, as closely together as possible. Three neat little rows! Ten candles in each! So far, so good. Then I lit them. Don't try this at home, kiddies! The flames leapt up a good four to five inches from the top of the candles. Either they were feeding off each other or it had something to do with the presence of a package or two of old trick candles hidden among the others in the bag. Anyway, it soon became clear that if I cared at all about scorching the table cloth (the style thing again), I would not try to blow them out, as the flames were clearly capable of bending over and doing just that before going out. I recurred to our candle snuffer and began to try--futilely--to put them out three by three. Too many trick candles, I suppose. Called for help from husband, who had been busy doing something useful: washing dishes. He came running with our largest pan lid and, on the second try, managed to put them out. Thirty candle stubs stuck out at odd angles from the top of the cake, which was by then roughly 30% wax. The wicks stuck out, too, in a way reminiscent of the whiskers on an overly inquisitive cat after its first introduction to a jack-o'-lantern. A gray puddle of wax spread at the foot of the cake, obliterating the lovely design on the plate. Evidently, grey is what you get when you mix pink with blue with green with yellow. It was still possible that someone might eat the rest of the Twinkies, but it was quite obvious that no one would ever eat this one. Candle holders would have helped, but we don't have thirty of them** and I don't really think that you could squeeze thirty candle holders onto a Twinkie of any size. Yeah, I took before and after shots and will let you know if they turn out. Don't hold your breath, I'm only at #13 of a roll of 36. B. Stone stoneb@g....... *You can carry the style thing a bit too far. Once they're lit, who's going to notice? Besides, I felt guilty about spending the family grocery money on something nobody really wanted to eat. **When long-suffering spouse hit the big four-oh, he got a pineapple upside down cake with forty holderless candles. Didn't think he'd take it too well if I splurged on extra holders for Nat's unbirthday. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Feb 2000 22:45:05 -0000 From: Barbara Vainio <bevainio@w.......> Subject: Re: Twinkie with candles B. Very taken with the black leather clothes and dashing, over-the-knee boots. But I think I'll reserve judgement on the lip-piercing and wings <g>. Good that he had by far the biggest role, in practically every scene for three-quarters of the show.
