I know you meant this as a private message to the author, (and so, I am
leaving off your name in this reply), but I must take exception to your
second sentence.

Not only have I been enjoying all the fiction where Nicholas plays a
prominent role, but I am also mighty glad to see the other characters being
written about. Every writer starts out not knowing what the heck they are
doing, and it is only by practicing the art that they can hope to be better.
Take heart all you amateurs like mineself--- everyone has written so-so
stories. And remember that there are damn few stories out there that have
not touched at least *two* readers---if only yourself and I. And doesn't
*that* make it worth it?

As to the fandom dying out...
What? Where?
If you recall, *Star Trek* was pulled back in 1969 and (lookee here!) its
now 2000, the brink of the new millenium, and you ca---- oh, heck, need I
explain *that* phenomenon?

Sincerely, (if not well versed in the conversational arts),
Kyer

Absolutely. I agree that there has been a great deal of fiction lately . .
. a sure sign that the fandom is *not* dying out. Due to the Sci-Fi
Channel's airings of the show for the past three years, FK has actually
*gained* new fans. I'm pleased to see so many new faces attempting fiction
on our lists. Not everyone is born to write, but writing is as much
technical as it is "art". Authors grow with practice. We need to encourage
our beginners. Who knows when the next great author will be born? Perhaps
in the very next story posted.

>Not only have I been enjoying all the fiction where Nicholas plays a
>prominent role, but I am also mighty glad to see the other characters being

Again, I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not a fan of stories written with Tracy,
Vachon or Screed as primary characters, but I'm pleased as punch to see so
many of these stories out there for others' enjoyment. We each have our own
niche of stories we enjoy. What a bland world it would be if there were
only one or two types of stories from which to choose. Who knows? The next
Tracy story that comes along might well become a favorite of mine.

>And remember that there are damn few stories out there that have
>not touched at least *two* readers---if only yourself and I. And doesn't
>*that* make it worth it?

Amen. We write to please ourselves. If others enjoy the story, so much the
better. My most recent offering, "First Knight" received an uncommonly
large number of positive comments. (I thank each and every one who has
written to tell me so.) While this story may not be everyone's cup of tea,
it obviously touched more than just myself and one or two others. While I
don't wish to sound like I'm boasting, the response I received would
indicate that this was considered an "enjoyable" piece of fiction by many.

I don't think the fandom is dying . . . far from it. I don't think the
quality of fiction has necessarily dropped. We have a large number of new
authors. Give them time . . . and give them your support. Authors thrive on
positive comments. While I'm at it . . . I don't have a lot of time to read
stories, but I save most of them for reading later on. I wish to
congratulate everyone who is brave enough to try their hand at writing.
You're helping to keep the fandom alive. Bravo! Keep writing!

I wanted to second that! I don't have much time to read the fic on FKFIC much
either, but I do save them hoping that some day I can!

I haven't had much time to write lately either, at least fan fic (writing
professionally does have its drawbacks!), but hope to eventually do some more
stories. I found the original critic's comments about Screed always being
used as comic relief to be very puzzling (in fact, I felt slapped in the
face). Although his diction does require a certain amount of comic charm,
many of the stories I read with him in it do not use him as a clown. I do in
some stories, but only when the stories call for that. We all have a clown
buried deep within us! We can't change Screed's use of words without changing
the character<wRPg>

But there's as many different interpretation of a character as there are
writers out here. That's what makes Fan Fic so wonderful - there's no editor
or publisher or power telling us how to write!

Subject: FK ALUMNI ALERT -

Hi gang -

Sorry about no list for January, what with Christmas, New Year's, planning
a trip back to the States, just didn't make it.

But, here are a couple that I ran across the other night for next week:

NIGEL BENNETT:
Wed, Jan 26 Kung Fu, TLC "May I Talk with You?" TNT
Sun, Jan 30 Darkman 3, Die Darkman, Die
ActionMax

Hope you all caught "The Crossing" earlier in the month on A&E, if not,
I'm sure it will be on again before too long, like maybe next month with
the President's Birthdays.

GEORDIE JOHNSON:
Fri, Jan 28 Kung Fu, TLC "Sunday in the Hotel with George" TNT

I'll be in California from Jan 27 to Feb 21, hope to have the February
list out by Jan 29th, and the March list before I leave.

That's all for now, hopefully a very long one next month.

Well that ought to swat the courage to post out of a few new authors.
*grimace* Personally, I read every piece of FK fanfic that gets
posted... and thoroughly enjoy about 99.9% of it. A big, hearty thank
you to all of you who post your stories. You help keep the Knight alive!

First, I'd like to talk to Beth for not having had time to write to her
privately.

Now, guys, you have to take the talk about the dailies offlist _now_. This
is different from the usual offer to tape episodes for people who don't have
them for the cost of the tapes and maybe postage. It's creating a new video
product with copyright stuff and very likely to draw Sony down on our heads
with a cease and desist order. If that happens, we might lose Fkfic-l. So
please, take the talk offlist.

Thank you, and sorry again not to have had time to contact Beth privately.

Subject: Misunderstanding about And So I Walk...

It has been brought to my attention by a couple people that my latest story,
And So I Walk Into The Fire may have been insulting to some because of the
reference to pagans.

The cult was NOT Pagan. The husband of the Melanie Thomas called the leader
of the cult a pagan with a lower case p (meaning heathen, unreligious, the
general meaning of the adjective, not the actual religion) as an insult, he
was not referring to the actual nature of the cult. This can be considered
a misconception by the husband, NOT by myself.

The cult itself was actually monotheistic, and they worshipped Abbadon.
Abbadon is a fallen angel (specifically the angel of the apocalypse, often
referred to as Abbadona). Anyway, we're now getting into a whole big mess
with Satanism which I really do not want to get into :) In addition, the
'evil' emanations Nick was feeling about the whole thing were actually in
relation to Infaustus, not the cult. The cult itself was not intended to be
portrayed as evil.

I'm sorry if this generated any misunderstandings. No part of the cult was
meant to in any way be synonymous with Pagans or Wiccans and I apologize if
it was taken that way.

I can't remember one. However, I once planned a story in which Johnny Fever
from WKRP in Cincinnati encounters LaCroix at a radio broadcasters'
convention in L.A. and ends up going vampire-hunting after a few drinks
with old buddy Remington Steele (convention security), who agrees that LC
meets most of the movie vampire symptoms. Naturally they are pursued in turn
by Johnny's boss Andy Travis and Remington's highly displeased partner/wife
Laura Holt.

I never thought of Johnny as a vampire hunter; I always thought
he would be too laid-back for that. I can imagine Les' attempts
at hunting, though.

I would like to read the story, though.

The Nick and Schanke of "Partners of the Month" could take Dave and Maddie in
the bickering department hands down. <g> And Janette could show Maddie what
true elegance and style is.

Remy would make an ideal vampire, methinks. After all, he's already got the
change of identity and relocation bit down pat. <g> And as with LC, I'd
happily submit to being Remy's evening snack. <weg>

There's an article about Robocop in todays Toronto Sun. You can read
the online version here:

I find for most newpaper articles, they only keep them at current
addy's for a day, so pick it up before it's gone.

Ger plays the bad guy, named Kaydick. There's no pictures though.

Oh! Oh! The sales guy (what's his name?) meets Schanke...Venus Flytrap meets
Vachon...Andy's assistant, that earnest young woman, meets Tracy...the
station owner meets Captain Stonetree...and yes, Les Nessman doggedly
pursuing the biggest story of his career (after the ill-fated Thanksgiving
Turkey Drop, of course <g>)

As for Johnny Fever, he'd just hang around in the Raven drinking with the
goth crowd, and he wouldn't notice that *anything* was odd.

This cries out for writing! McLisa, you gotta do it!
