Hello Azaeel!

Thanks for the German update! Boy have I got a request for you!
I'm collating responses for two FK surveys & one of our list-sisters
asked her father to translate the surveys into German. My hopes were to
make the surveys as international as possible. So far, I've gotten
responses from the US, Canada, Australia, and Singapore (all English
language). But, since Germany had it's own airings of FK,
I wanted to know:

--The status of FK in Germany (is the third season also broadcast, and
finished, too as it is in the US and Canada)? Or is Germany getting
  eps later than we?
--Are you at all affiliated with the FK German webpage or have access
to it? It's listed on the official FK webpage, but when I access it,
they say they've moves to a new address, but don't include it!)
Can you find out for me?
--Has there already been a survey done since January/ is this relevant
to them? I'd be happy to include the German fans. My first deadline
is June 26 for responses, so that I can get "early polls" tabluated &
over to the SOS-FK page for them to include as new fan efforts.
However, I've decided to keep accepting surveys throught 1996 (sort
of MY hunger strike until we get to see seasons 1 & 2 on SciFi
  Channel or anywhere).
--If I were to do German surveys, would you be willing/able to translate
the answers for me to include? Or can you recommend someone?
I'm looking for a contact with any FK Germany fan clubs.

Can you help me? Sure hope so. The two surveys are FK Viewer's Poll &
FK Merchandise Survey. Good demographics to gather to use as part of
the continual pitch for more, new FK (anything)!

First thing I can do is send you the English & German versions & perhaps
you can know if they translated OK & are relevant. I'm suggesting folks
print off the surveys and hand them out to non-Internet fans, too.
What do you think?

Pls let me know. Thx!

Subject: LIST: NO CROSSPOSTING!

With the War nearing, this bears repeating.

THERE IS TO BE NO CROSSPOSTING BETWEEN THE THREE (oops, I meant *TWO*) LISTS!

The only people who can crosspost are listowners, OR people who have explicit
prior permission of the listowners.

The reason for this is the fact that once you start crossposting, it doesn't
stop, not ever; and pretty soon, half of the forkni-l digests are duplicating
half of the fkfic-l digests, and this is an extreme and unnecessary waste of
bandwidth.

If you have something to post, it belongs EITHER on forkni OR on fkfic. Not
both. (And if you really feel that it does belong on both, talk to me.)

As to which WAR posts belong on forkni and which belong on fkfic... someone
else will have to explain that, because I'm honestly not sure. And I just
dropped my cigarette into my coffee instead of the ashtray, and I'm rather
upset about that at the moment... mostly because I didn't notice until AFTER
I started drinking the coffee... <sigh>

It's more than them just thinking we're lunatics, too. A single letter to a
network about, say, "Party of Five" or some such mainstream show is looked at
as representing 10,000 people who DIDN'T write. SF shows, however, are USUALLY
looked at as fringe elements and our letters don't count as much. Not fair, but
true. We HAD to do a coordinated effort at the beginning, but now that we're in
this for the long haul, we MUST get back into the realm of "just plain folks" in
order to make a difference. I know I'd rather have my letter counted 10,000
times than tossed as "another one of those nuts."

The only way I'd watch it would be if the voices for Nick, Nat and LC
were Ger, CD and Nigel.

And Deborah Duchene as Janette, of course, if they brought her back.

And Fred Mollin's music.

FK's *sound* has always been a big part of its appeal to me. I might
be able to adjust to cartoon drawings and characters, but not to
other voices and music.

FK episodes are not legally available for sale. (Unlike the show
Highlander - I just saw the add on TV for a whole series of Highlander
episodes - sigh.) Not-for-profit duplication of tapes made from original
airings is being politely ignored by TPTB. Strictly speaking, I think
this is even illegal, but it is one of those gray areas since swapping
taped episodes is usually considered legal.

If you've got something I'm interested in and need 3rd season episodes,
let me know. FK is still shown in syndication here and I'll be getting
the SciFi channel at the end of the month, so I'd be willing to make
tapes for someone. These would be original tapes, not duplicates, so I'm
interested in something of similar quality. I'd love to get some
high-quality 1st season FK, since my dupes are not so great.

Make me an offer.

Absolutely, but she doesn't show up until the show takes a darker turn into
a post apocalyptic time. The aliens have started a full out war and Chaves
is replaced by Adrian Paul. The aliens are no longer in those costumes but in
cute little uniforms. Catherine is the head alien. As far as official
seasons go, I dont know, but it was probably the last year or two of the
series. They are almost up to that part again so hang in there. Boy was she
young!

I've seen what they did to Star Trek (TOS) in the cartoon, and it wasn't a
pretty sight. It sounded the same (and I think most of the original actors
did the voices) but the plots were about the stupidest things I've ever
sat through.

So, if FK ever makes it to a cartoon, I pray they have decent scripts, or
it will be just as embarassing as the ST cartoon.

it's possible, but i personally think redrawing in cartoon format
may dampen important aspects of the series; most cartoons i
can think of *always* carries the for-the-young-'uns flavor. at least
in american cartoons (japanese anime, i think, are purportedly
very different)_ it *is* possible to carry out the heavy philosophical/
ethical stuff in cartoon--but that's topics only. and, of course, these
topics would be quickly filtered for the younger cartoon-watching
population anyway. likewise, i don't think LC's speech-fits
would go over very well under that format, and a definite
_mood_ would be lost. that's not to say a cartoon can't retain a
sort of dark dignity [like 'Goyles], but i just don't feel cartoonizing
FK would do it justice.

then again, none of the characters would really be killed off ;P
[and if they were, there's always the chance they'll come back;
anything's possible under pen and ink!]

In response to Cynthia Hoffman's informative note:

RE: SOS-FK PO Box which Lana Soward is tending, and Non-Internet newsletter
which AnnMarie is doing,

Is anyone contributing to the cost of these? I'd be willing to send $5
when I can. Please let me know if these nice people need any help to
cover the costs of such globally rewarding efforts.

And, Cynthia,
Thanks for the Logo infringement cautionary note, TOO. That is VERY
important. Business people REALLY don't like it when their property
is stolen. And logos are property! It costs $$$ for a corporation to
design it & get it trademarked. You won't believe the lengths
companies will go to protect their property.

EXAMPLE (Logo Protection 101, on a GOOD day):

Long ago, in a job far, far away...
I consulted to AT&T. They had just divested & lost the BELL logo in
the settlement. They came up with the new globe logo. And, they paid
me and all other consultants to sit in a three-hour seminar on logo
integrety & brain washing:

--It must have 10, 12, or 14 horizontal lines.
--It must be either all Black or a combination of Black, Pantone
Process Blue, and Red, in the required places. No other shades are
  acceptable.
--It must NOT be eclipsed.
--etc....ad infinum. See, after 12 years (any many jobs later) I can
  STILL recite the logo credo!

Aside from ruining our group efforts to get more FK, NO ONE, I repeat
NO ONE wants to face a gaggle of corporate lawyers paid to GET unsuspecting
individuals who unthinkingly STEAL their property. No, I'm not calling
anyone unthinking. Please heed Cynthia's advice. There is NO such thing
as an "I'm sorry, I was just doing something for a good cause" defense.

We must be smart, premeditated, considered, and very deliberate in our
external efforts. We can reach our goals! It's possible, and no one needs
to go to Rocket Scientist school to do so. Our greatest strength is in an
unyielding, unending, infallible, unsinkable grass roots effort. We can
write our individual letters; speak individually to friends & other fans
(new and old). That is OUR secret weapon!

OK, now I remember. Yes. The aliens' Doctor Who-ish costumes threw me.
I knew I remembered a baby face...
It was Catherine in her teen years! (smile) Funny, she was all I

Hi All!!

I've just been sent a story bibliography with (yikes) over 600 stories in it!

I'm trying not to go overboard here, but there are some I would dearly love
to have now. I have no info on when another archive will be put on the net.

Thes ones I would most like to see if anyone has are:

(All by James Kythe Walkswithwind)
Would It Be True
Most Trunk Space in 30 years
Epilogue
Promises
Die Within Your Reach (song challenge)
Eyes of a Child (song challenge)
Stay, We Must Not Lose Our Senses
You Have None
Just In Memory
Keep The Light

A short list considering the # of titles I waded through last night!

Most of these are probably short stories.
Anything I have, (which is mostly N&LC stuff) I'm more than willing to trade.
I've also got eps pretty good quality eps.

All help is greatly appreciated.

However, there are a few gaps. As I know there are some incredibly
gifted historians on this list, could you help fill in the question
marks for the following (all Janette-dating accepted gratefully, or
any other as that goes. I dated Amateur Night by the Ford Mustang <g> ).

The following are (at least for me) not accurately dated:

        Queen of Harps
        Blood Money
        POTM
        Crazy Love
        The Fix
        Baby Baby

Additionally, any information about locations that are questionable
would be helpful, too.

I will post the final information to the list when, with all your help,
we work out the questionable data. If you have any comments at all,
please send them to me by private email if possible (delggren@e.......)
since I'll see them a lot sooner as I'm on digest.

I remember the Star Trek cartoon series after the end of the original
ST series. Disappointing. So as to a FK cartoon, my vote would be no.

It's the French spelling: "Nicolas" You can see it in the flashbacks where
they're speaking French. I saw it in Killer Instinct the other night. Even
when LC is speaking French he says it Nee-co-la (though not quite as
charmingly as Janette).

Hi Everyone,

I just called GNP Crescendo Records to find out when the FK CD will be
available in stores. I was told that they should be available now depending
upon the store.

I commented to the man who answered the phone that it seems the CD is very
popular. He laughed and said "Oh yeah", and that they receive 5 to 10 calls
a day for it.

Keep up the good work everybody! If you haven't purchased the CD or tape (or
both) call them at 1-800-654-7029.
