I must agree with you, Amy. Besides, I feel you do LaCroix a terrible
injustice by invalidating his intense love for Fleur, it makes him
multi-dimensional to think that even that "Evil LaCroix" can love fiercely,
intensely and with his entire being....and yet give up that love for her
sake. Makes even more sense as to why he holds Nick with such a tight fist...

As our illustrious leader Jamie Randela said:
"I'd like to see a discussion on the viability of producing a short
all-purpose promo spot for the "Friends of Forever Knight", outlining our
basic goals and giving a couple of contact points -- the PO box, the web page
and maybe a phone number -"( hope that's not too many lines of quote)

I was drawing up a list of possible ideas for the FK campagin and this is an
excellent one. An information packet similar to ones networks/production
co.'s hand out on their shows (like the one from FK ), would have all the
important information included and make it simple and direct for the person
it's sent to to understand what we are all about. This packet should be sent
to any media contacts as well.

A more involved packet could include demographic surveys and merchandise
requests. Comments from critics, fans and stats on increased viewership.
Whew!!

Any thoughts on hitting NAPTE again next year, not to sell FK for a fourth
season but to gather/disperse information? Just a thought.

Any Marketing experts out there?

Let me also add my 2 cents on the wonderful SOS page. I can't tell you how many
times someone has shown up on IRC and had no idea about what has happened to
the show. We are always giving out the URL as a place to get complete info. I
have also used it for those who liked the show and missed it on USA, but had
no idea it was also showing in syndication. I would get their city/state info
and hop over to the syndie listing to find when and where FK was playing in
their area. A truly wonderful resource!

I believe you're referring to a press kit. Cynthia Hoffman already has
press kits made up for the SOS-FK campaign. They were sent out to media
contacts all over the place. As she recently posted to this list, she
still has some on hand. If you have suggestions of places to send them, why
not post them?

With all due respect, may I suggest that everyone who wasn't involved in the
original SOS-FK campaign read the excellent posts from Susan Garrett
(Slumping parts 1 and 2) and Laurie Cohen Fenster (re: SOS-FK (History) long).

I'm sure that there are some great new ideas out there for steps to take to
try to keep the interest in FK flowing, and I'd love to hear them. However,
it doesn't make sense to me to duplicate work that has already been done --

Firstly she is the best character and when they kicked her out of the
show it lost something it wasnt the same. I also like her cos she is
strong determined and very good at minipulating men!!!
I mean that in a good way.
anyhow
She is a female Vampire with one killer body (pardon the pun)
and she could make a man do anthing for her.
I think she is funny and I like her sense of humour it is so witty.
I also think that Deb Duchene is the best actress on the face of the
earth and she brought Janette to life. Sometimes I almost forgot she was
Deb and thought that Janette was really real (which she is!!)
So there are my reasons for likeing Janette and everyone should like her

I beg to differ. There are some very few things that it pays to duplicate
and repeat, but it never pays to do exactly the same thing again and again.
While we were encouraged to write to TPTB, the advertisers and anyone else
we could think of that might help, one of the things that was stressed when
the SOS-FK campaign got off the ground was NEVER to send duplicate letters.
Every letter we sent had to be different from every other one.

Could you please explain to me exactly what you think can be accomplishing
by duplicating the press kits that already exist? It takes a lot of time
and costs a fair bit of money to put together and mail out those kits.
Since we've already done this, wouldn't this time and money be better spent
on a "new" idea.

>If the team that provided all that terrific work is justifiably tired now,
>let them have the help of "new blood".

As Susan Garrett already posted today, "we're doing the best thing possible,
buying CDs and writing letters. It's quiet, but it's THE most effective
response we can make at this time."

If you really want to make a contribution to the SOS-FK campaign, write
letters to TPTB, buy the CD, buy products from people who advertise during
FK and send you receipts and a thank you letter to the advertiser, etc.

If anyone has any new ideas to put forward, we are all very happy and eager
to discuss them.

Today, I received a letter from Thomas Olson, VP of Advertising Sales at the
Sci-Fi Channel. Here is an excerpt of what he had to say:

"For the right or wrong of it, program lives are directly related to
viewership levels. High rated programs live and low rated programs go away.
'Forever Knight' is an example of a program that has existed long beyond the
lives of most low rated programs. It continues to find new homes because of
a 'belief' in the program not only by loyal viewers like yourself, but also
by programmers. If the program finds success on the Sci-Fi Channel it should
be around for a long time. It is my understanding that there are nine as of
yet unseen episodes that should start airing this fall."

I'm not going to focus on the fact that neither USA nor my local station ever
advertised "Forever Knight" and that this could only impact negatively on the
show's "ratings". What I want to know is, What are these "nine as of yet
unseen episodes that should start airing this fall"??? Are there really
nine episodes we haven't seen, or is Mr. Olson not up to speed here?

I believe what the person was talking about was the episodes that aired in
syndication NOT ON USA. USA pulled out BEFORE the end of the season,
therefore, according to USA there are nine unseen episodes, by those people
who only got FK on USA.

For everyone who had syndication or satellite feed, there was the entire
season of Forever Knight.

I assume he's talking about the episodes that did NOT air on USA but DID
air on syndies....
Actually, since SFC has already shown the last few actual episodes of the series
shouldn't this number be much lower??? Indeed, they'll be shown before Fall,
as well...According to the schedule, they'll be showing GVP towards the end of

In the discussion of various ways to get the word out to the Un-Webbed, I
have a *surprisingly* low-tech suggestion.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am a printed word addict. I read
flyers stapled to phone polls and the signs on the bus. I am planning on
putting together a single sheet flyer about our favorite obsession and
putting it in likely places: University kiosks, bulletin boards in
colleges, natural foods grocery stores, every new age and alternative goods
shop, every used book store I can get to, video stores.

Some of the alternative papers (weeklies, mostly) have a *very* low cost ad
section -- snail mail, email and internet sites can be listed along with a
short blurb for *pennies*. If you can convince them it's a "public service"
gig, sometimes they'll do it for free.

Flyers will go to every con I either attend or can get them to. This
includes areas not usually involved in such things, like the Deep South (a
fannish wasteland with a few *wonderful* oases).

We don't have to have tonnes of cash. We don't have to have high tech.
Hell, the Star Trek fans didn't even have *computers* for the first ten years!

BTW, I am not lazy, I am *EFFICIENT*. Anyone who has already put together
such a flyer, please email me -- I will take any input I can get on this
(although I have designed some *nifty* flyers in my time).

Thank you!

This has probably already been answered since I'm on digest, but I
believe the nine eps he refers to are the nine eps that were not
originally part of the USA package when they pulled out after episode
13 (there were 22 total eps in season 3).

So, no, I would say he is not up to speed.

But his words are otherwise encouraging.

Regarding SOS-FK: I think it's wonderful that so many newcomers are so
enthusiastic about pushing the SOS campaign, relieving some of us
*oldtimers* of some of the burden. I would just encourage everyone to
be patient and to realize that probably nothing is going to happen for
months at the very least, if not a year or two. It's important not to
burn yourself out, or to get disappointed when nothing seems to be
coming of your efforts. The best things that all of us can be doing
right now are: (1) writing letters to Sony, TriStar, USA, SFC, our
local syndies, FK sponsors; (2) creating more fans by showing episodes
to our friends; and (3) passing around flyers locally, to advise the
net-impaired fans among us of the ongoing efforts to revive FK.

I don't think we're likely to have much luck with the national media at
the moment, though there's no harm in trying - and if we keep it up
long enough, they may just talk to us to avoid being nagged <g>. But,
frankly, at the moment, there is no story. The show has been
cancelled. If they wouldn't talk to us or publicize our efforts in the
afterglow of the NATPE effort, I don't see them doing it now. However,
if we keep the effort up for a year or so; if we keep growing the
fandom despite the cancellation -- then there may be a story someone
will be willing to cover.

As always, just my two cents.
