I've been doing some serious "research" into finding a copy of the
"Nick Knight" video (pilot). Found that I could order it from, of all

Subject: Lacroix and Nick as Parents
I don't ever remember if anyone has ever addressed or know if it has
been addressed on an episode I have yet to see, but we keep talking
about how bad Lacroix was at teaching Nick to be a good parent.
My question is, since Divia was a very young vampire when she
brought Lacroix across, who taught Lacroix?
In the flashbacks that I have seen in various episodes, it seems to
me that Lacroix took great pains and a lot of effort in teaching Nick
to be a *good* vampire. There are also certain lessons that he
admits in "leaving out".
At what age should Nick take responsibility for his own education? It
appears to me he has been to busy angsting to further his own
education and at this point he should be responsible for what he
knows and doesn't know regardless of the angst.
As for parenting ability, I think that when he brought across Natalie's
brother, Richard her should have put more effort into it. It would be
like giving birth to a baby. He should have booked off work for a
period of time instead of leaving the newborn baby home alone.
Maybe he could have given him say six weeks instead of running off
to work the next day to leave him the his own devices. Of course,
the whole thing was okay with Natalie. I would make a reference
here to FI but I believe it's under spoiler protection still, so I won't.
If Nick would spend more time acting like an adult
maybe Lacroix would treat him more like and adult vampire that is.

Subject: In Praise of Blind Faith
I went to a Forever Knight video session on Saturday night, where we caught
up with the third season. (For those who don't know, I live in Australia,
so the fans keep up by trading tapes from overseas.)
Anyway - I watched, "Dead of Night", "Strings", "Sons of Belial", "Outside
the Lines", "My Boyfriend is a Vampire", "Let No Man Tear Assunder",
"Blackwing" and "Blind Faith" - and of all of them, I enjoyed "Blind Faith"
the most!
Let's get the worst over first. The plot was daft - but then again, so were
the plots for "Dance By the Light of the Moon", "Baby Baby" and "Near
Death". Leaving that aside, the story moved along briskly, there was some
humour, and a dog with big brown eyes that tugged at my heartstrings. Face
it, I'm a sucker for animals of this type.
We also got to see a bit more a Screed, a character I rather like. I enjoy
his observations, ramshackle slang monologues strung together. Loved his
remark about not having brought any dogs across since the Cuban Missile
crisis (wonder what happened then!) and his description of a carouche who
created the crop circles attributed to UFOs. Nick struck me as being a bit
of a snob where Screed was concerned - fly in, ask some questions, fly out,
without so much as a "how d'ye do". Perhaps he has something against
carouches - maybe is afraid of being taken for one since he lives on a cows'
blood diet. I wonder if his attitude is personal, or is common to all
"higher" vampires?
And speaking of higher vampires - I liked LaCroix in the flashback. No LC
Lite here. This is the LC of the first season - jealous, possessive and
mean. Having Nick's pet dog brought across, though, struck me as being a
new low, even for him. What would he have done if Nick had adopted a pet
hamster? A goldfish? :-)
But Perry was the highlight of the episode for me. I was cheering him on
when he attacked the rapist, and was appalled when Nick was going to stake
him. I also thought that he made a much better vampire than *either* Nick
or LaCroix - even if he was a dog and a carouche. Unlike Nick, he doesn't
wallow in angst, and unlike LaCroix, he instinctively knows that his
abilities are for survival and defence - not for getting his kicks by
terrorizing people. He also seems to beat our famous duo in the
bringing-across stakes - Nick messed up his first attempt at bring someone
across (DoN) and Perry managed to bring Jody across in ten seconds while it
took LC three episodes to bring across Nick. I think Perry deserves his
own faction - the "Perriers" maybe? I'm open to suggestions.
I even enjoyed the happen ending - Jody able to fly again (albeit without
her helicopter) with Perry by her side!

Part 1
"Now, let's see." Isis said as she lounged on the couch and inspected the
sketch that she was working on. "If I move that cherub over here and change
the leaves so that they're more of an oval.... and the shading should.... Is
that the doorbell? Now who could be visiting me at this hour of the night?"
"Hello?" Isis said as she hurried to the door and opened it. "Who's....
Janette?"
"Isis, may I please come in?" Janette said as she looked up from where
she was sitting on the steps.
"Sure. Janette, what's wrong? You look awful!" Isis said as she reached
down to help her friend to her feet.
"I'm sick." Janette said as she struggled to her feet and grabbed Isis to
keep from falling. The poor vampire really did look sick. She was much paler
than normal, her hair looked as if it hadn't been brushed in several days and
was tumbling loose about her face and the dress she was wearing was wrinkled
and hung loosely as if it was several sizes to big.
"What?" Isis said as she shoved her papers out of the way and helped
Janette onto the couch. "I thought that vampires.... Well, never mind. What
I though was oviously wrong. You just lay right there and I'll go and get you
something to eat."
"No! It won't do any good. I can't eat, Isis! I haven't been able to
eat anything for the last month or so. I get sick and start throwing up when I
try. I think I'm dying and it's Nichola's fault!"
"What?!!"
"This is probably what happens to Nichola's fleglings if they manage to
survive being brought across by him. They get sick and starve to death!"
"Wait a minute. Fleglings? Nick? Janette, I think you better start at
the beginning and tell me exactly what happened to you."
A little while later Janette said, "The next thing that I remember was
waking up in the backseat of Natalie's car in Nichola's arms. He started
apologizing and then he started to kiss me and undo buttons. I was so confused
that I didn't try to stop it. Then when he left me alone that night, it hit me
what had happened and I left before he came home. I was in London when I first
started feeling ill. I waited nearly a month thinking it would pass before I
came to see you. Isis, you have to help me or I'm going to starve!"
"You probably did catch something from Nick." Isis said as she patted
Janette reassuringly. "He problably has Mad Cow disease or something from
drinking all of that disgusting cow blood. Don't worry, Janette. You're
going to be fine. Let's get you into bed and in the morning I'll figure out a
way for you to get some food down."
"Isis, if you can't help me then...."
"Janette, you're going to be fine. We'll find something that won't make
you sick in the morning. Now you need to sleep." Isis said as she helped her
up the stairs.

Wow! Pretty amazing! Particularly since I voted at
11:58 EST on the last day of voting and the machine told

#7. Pretty strange recording keeping.
Now, the more important point. I wonder what picture
of GWD they will use in their pictorial collection? (As

There is no longer a hard-and-fast rule (at one point it was 3 posts per
day per listmember). Three is still a good idea. I would think five
would be about the limit before it started getting obnoxious. :-)

Not at all! Better to ask and learn the ropes upfront.
(Although you can also pick a friendly-seeming senior poster
and throw yourself on their mercy <g> by private email when you've

Oooo, I'd join a Perry faction, particularly since it was this episode that
my friend used to 'bring me across' to FK. Said she, 'I know you don't like

Actually, there is a faction for Perry... it's called the Wolfpack!
Or at least that is what I've been told. I found out about it after
I inquired on behalf of my husband. (He is a devoted Perry fan!)
It was kinda funny for us since we live in North Carolina where
the NC State football team is also called the Wolfpack.

You Know Your Child is Definitely Hooked On FK When,
You have cable; The Disney Channel; over 200 children's movies, including
almost every Disney Classic, and your four year old still wakes you up on
Saturday morning with, "Mommy I want to watch the one with Nick and the
little girl." Which is of course, "Father Figure", which is one of her
favorites. (She also loves the PopCorn Scene in "Cherry Blossoms.")
And You Also Know that FK has Really Increased your Child's Vocabulary When,
The same child asks you to read her, the fanfic you're working on and it
starts, "Nick and Natalie were at the morgue, so you ask her, "Do you know
what a 'morgue' is?" And she rolls her eyes at you and says, "Of course,
Mommy. That's where Natalie works."
So is it okay to have a pre-schooler so attached to a vampire show? I think
so, especially if you consider the other shows she could be watching. And
that brings me to my next topic: The Top Ten Reasons That Watching FK is
Better For Your Kids Than Watching the Power Rangers:
10. If your kids watch FK, you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on
cheesy action figures. (Though, if they did have FK actions figures, I would
buy them. Then I could have hours of endless fun, playing out all my
favorite scenes; I mean my kids could.)
9. LaCroix is so much cooler than Lord Zedd. (I'd like to see Lord Zedd
quote from Dante.)
8. Even Tracy is not as perky as Kimberly.
7. Natalie is smarter than the smartest ranger, Billy. (But I do have to
say, Billy is really kind of cute. He's got these big, blue eyes, adorable
smile, and he always has this sort of pathetic, puppy dog look on his face.
Maybe he's the son Nick doesn't like to talk about.
6. Janette has got a much better fashion sense than Rita Repulsa.
5. No one on FK ever decided to change colors just so they could sell even
more action figures.
4. Vachon looks sexier in tight jeans than Tommy does.
3. There is no annoying robot on FK running around saying,"Aye, Aye, Aye."
2 The Powers That Be at FK, would never replace half the original cast with
new actors, in a desperate attempt to raise the ratings. Wait, that did
happen, didn't it? Oh well, I guess I'll have to save that for my list of Top
Ten Things FK and Power Rangers Have in Common.
And the Number One Reason Watching FK is Better For Your Kids Than Watching
Power Rangers:
Nick's never-ending quest is to become mortal again, by repaying society for
his sins. The Power Rangers never-ending quest is to save the world from
evil, and to sell more crappy merchandise than Barney. (Not necessarily in
that order.)

Also, the group in Dallas working on out side has offered to give us a web
page on the war at no charge! I'd like some input on this, and suggestions
as to what to put on it (links to FKSOS I know, and other pages, but what
else?). MAil Kurt Grutzmacher (grutz@tk.org) for more info. He's really
cool, and is one of the primary organizers of the Dallas Struggle.
Tulsa TCI info: well, we should be getting Sci-Fi and others when they get
the fiberoptics in, which should be "soon" (a.k.a., in about two years).
There are extra channels available, this proven by the fact that at least
four have been added in as many months (although some are available only in
North and West Tulsa. I think The Learning Channel was put on this
weekend). We shouldn't have to wait that long for FK. If anyone else in
the area is interested, we need to petition for one of those "extra"
channels to go to Sci-Fi.

Being on digest, I don't know if someone has already addressed this,
but I have seen a number of comments bemoaning the fact that the
"fiction list" is going offline.
Folks, _fkfic-l_ isn't going anywhere, as far as I know. Darkangel
(Steffi) has very kindly maintained an fk fiction _website_ for the
last year or so (http://www.evil.org or something like that). She has
moved on to other interests, and maintaining a website on something
you're no longer interested in is a major inconvenience. I
suspect/hope? someone with the necessary computer knowledge and/or
server capacity will volunteer to fill this void.
However, this has nothing to do with fkfic-l, which will continue until
Listmom Jaye and/or Laurie Salopek or psu decide otherwise. And FK
fiction continues to be archived at the ftp site
(ftp.cac.psu.edu/pub/people/lms5), though the last time I was there, it
was not as inclusive as the web site.

a carouche is a lower form of vampire~preying on

I think someone asked at least one of these questions once before, but I
still wonder...
1) How come a vampire who always kept right on coming when the baddies shot
him in other episodes falls down (unconscious yet) in this one -- just long
enough for the ghosts to catch up with him?
2) I think the director was probably just in love with all those big fat blue
fx-enhanced light beams, but... er... um... erm... well... What's a
*vampire* need with a flashlight???

Subject: shrew and tour
Dear All,
A: I wanted to say that I had an interesting time up in Toronto. Too
bad it was very short with almost as much time spent in a car. The
car ride was really quick though with good conversation from one Karen
Tobin. Toronto is beautiful but still packed full of interesting
things (sort of like a cleaner Manhattan), and I wish all could see
it. It was great meeting the many faces attached to the names on this
list.
B: Mostly however, I wanted to give praise to Will for his wonderful
tour. It was the highlight for me (the studio sign is still there --
though almost stolen by us while we were there!) It was great to see
the sights (loft, coroner's, Raven, studio etc. etc.) and I can't wait
for my pictures. This tour also comes highly recommended especially
b/c it wasn't a tour (as when you buy a ticket and expect to be lead
around), it was friends hopping in the car and cruising the city.

What has always bothered me are the choices Nick makes when he freely
chooses what he's going to eat. French fries with lots of ketchup? Pasta
with red sauce? Is he choosing red as his theme? You would think he
would choose foods that he was familiar with in his mortal life!
Potatoes and tomatoes were not brought to Europe for more than 2
centuries after he was brought across and Marco Polo had not arrived with
pasta either. Their flavors and textures would be completely foreign to him.
Incidently, I also found it interesting that Nick could twirl his
spaghetti, having never used a fork before (forks came to France in I
believe the 15th cen. from Italy and were an affectation of the nobility.)

Did I have a good time in TO? Yes, I did; thank you for asking. The play
was awesome, thoroughly entertaining, on both nights that I saw it
(Thursday and Saturday). I think I nearly went into cardiac arrest when
the pizza was delivered. In any case, I would have enjoyed it just as much
if I hadn't known who Ger-whatzisface was (no, I STILL can't pronounce it).
And for the record, many many thanks to everyeveryeveryone who helped make
this Event what it was, and all the people I met (and the ones I somehow
missed!) -- it was just an amazing thing to behold.
Also for the record: I did not see Catherine, Nigel, Ben, Lisa, or Ger when
he walked RIGHT past us on the street. But I did see Dotti and Jackie and
Marg and Will and Lynne and Carrie and Diana and Becky and Vicky and Susan
and Perri and all the zillions of other people I don't stand a chance of
remembering names of but love anyway, and got Shanghaied By The Natpack
(tm), and quite frankly, that was even better.

It might be subconcious. Or that might be the most

As for the pasta in "The Fix", I don't think color mattered
as much as that was the food available when he found himself
very hungry.

Seriously, I think he has been separated from 13th century France

Bonsoir, mes amis. Once again, we had a great party on Friday April 26 in
Tucson. First, we had dinner at The Good Earth. We were even honored
to have a listmember join us from out of state. <Hi Sonja!> :) Although
Kathy forgot to bring her umbrella, it was actually Beth who could have
benefited. Fortunately, the waiter only spilt some of the iced tea on the
table, missing Beth completely :) While we awaited for the bill, we were
discussing Halloween and Christmas costumes. Noelle explained about how her
husband teased her about the ears she wore as an elf for Christmas,
saying that she looked like a Vulcan or a Romulan. She says here's what to
tell a plastic surgeon "forget the butt implants, forget the breast
implants, dock the ears!"
Then we talked about whether we needed to stop off at the store for some
wine. Laurie told Noelle that she brought 2 bottles of cabernet
souvergnion (sp?) and 2 boxes of <french name> Noelle misunderstood and
asked "How many bottles of wine did you bring?"
Laurie said "No, no, they're cookies!" The cookies were quite apropos -
"Dark Knight" cookies.
We all made it to Bridget's clubhouse which she got reserved for us.

We decided to watch the Blooper tape first and had a good laugh while
Noelle served us Ribena mixed with whatever we wanted - vernors, seltzer,
wine, or straight.
