Oh cool! Someone else connects that line from Les Mis and FK. I caught
it a while back while listening to the CD. But then, for some odd reason
I seem to find relationship between just about anything and FK... :-)

On another note,
I posted a message a few days ago, but it hasn't surfaced yet.
(The mail monster ate it?) So just in case it's gone to bit
heaven, I'll ask again --
Someone once posted a top ten list of why Natalie has a
great life. (Something about the elevator and Nick's big
screen tv...) If anyone still has it, please send me a copy!
   I'd be grateful!

Also, can anybody think up a top ten list of reasons why
Nick and Nat make a great couple. (No groans from the other
   factions, please! <g>)

And last,
I decided to go nomail from the list because (1) my mailbox was
overflowing and (2) all my on-line time was spent reading/writing
messages. (Yes, and I was the one collecting the posts from
those who said they stay on no matter what...) That decision
lasted exactly 32 hours and 12 minutes. Then I came back to
my senses and here I am. Bet ya didn't even miss me. <g>

FO>Hmmmm... can anyone check this out? Blimey, it just might work!

Someone posted an opposition to naming the NK+LC faction after anything
to do with a "father/son" relationship. Then someone wrote that NK and
LC were strictly in a paternal kind of relationship. Then I said "Nah,
they ain't that paternal."
Then someone else wrote and said that they WERE incestuous, but that it
didn't matter basically 'cause they're vampires.

I was very sleepy at the time and didn't make myself clear. :) I'll try
now. Yes, they do have a father-son relationship. Hell, I even wrote
about it in my one non-funny jadfe story "Paternal Instinct". But I for
some reason don't equate it with what most people would consider a
"father-son" relationship. That's what I was trying to get at. I don't
consider their relationship any more "wrong" than Nick and Janette's,
who are essentially brother and sister, right? So what's the uproar all
about?

So here now are some faction suggestions:

The Friction Faction
Salingers
Prophecy (anyone seen the movie The Prophecy might see some overtones of
the NK+LC relationship between Simon and Gabriel!)
FADs (for Fallen Angel and Devil)

That's all I can think of now with this headache. Need to go jumpstart

Subject: FK Tour Debacle

Okay, this is the one and only time I will respond to this topic onlist.

I admit it. It was all my fault. I'm a jinx. As far as I know, I was the
only one on the FK tour who was also on a tour in New Orleans during
Crescent City Con. During that tour it was 85 degrees and humid, even in
the evening, and the tour guide beat up a drunk. Don't let anyone tell you
that seeing violence on television numbs you to violence in real life. I've
seen lots of people getting beat up etc. on tv, but when that tour guide
started pushing around the drunk I got a knot in my stomach the size of a
volleyball. We would have left except we couldn't find a cab and didn't
know where we were. I'm afraid I brought my bad tour karma with me to Toronto.

Will said: (Sorry for the fifth line - LF)

I wasn't going to say anything, but I feel the need to respond since Will
mentioned me by name. No, I didn't write the post and don't ask me who did.
I saw it for the first time when it dropped with the digest that day. I'm
sorry for the way it was sent, but as a tour participant, I can attest to
the fact that the events described did, indeed, happen. Now let's let this
topic drop. It really makes no sense for anyone who was not on the tour to
comment about it. I had my picture taken at the loft (yes, I climbed onto
the fire escape... see that little spot there? That's me), and in front of
the police station and the sign.

Oh, and if you see me standing in a checkout line, DON'T stand behind me...
invariably there will be some problem with a) the cash register b) customer
ahead of me or c) they'll have to call for a price check so you'll be in
line forever and your ice cream will melt.

I tell you, I have the worst luck. Typhoid Lillian of the Tour Scene. ::sigh::

I'm going to order one and get another (as a gift) from a store. They will
almost certainly order more for stock. Since I know the owner, I'm going
to suggest that they put a few of them by the cash register "just for
grins" to see how long they last. I'm sure there are a lot a fans "out
there" who are not on the net that have no idea that this CD exists. They
never will know unless they see it, so anytime you are in a CD store you
might want to move it to strategic spot in the display so the FK logo

Actually, it's not an oatmeal joke - Nigel Bennet did a couple of

Well, actually, the figurine used in the episode wasn't a Buddha, so the point
is kinda moot... I believe someone (Preta? You still around?) said it was a
Hindu god-figure-- Kali or maybe Siva? I don't remember, exactly, but I looked
closely when I re-watched it, and (although I don't claim to be an expert) it
*does* look far more like a Hindu deity than a traditional Buddha. So, the
question becomes: Is a statuette of a Hindu deity a religious object, in the
sense that a cross/menorah/ritual dagger is, or not?

BTW-- I always assumed, myself, that the name "Black Buddha" was given to the
figure by some European thief-- um, I mean, "adventurer" <g>-- who "collected"
it from its original owner and brought it back West, to Napoleon or whoever was
supposed to have "owned" it first. Even in this day and age, many Westerners
are remarkably ignorant about cultures other than their own.... and "Black
Buddha" sounds *So* much more impressive and alliterative than "Black Siva". <g>

Hmmm... now, wouldn't *that* make an interesting crossover--- Nick and Indiana
Jones hunt for the Black Buddha (or some similar magickal object) together....

I prefer to think of a Nick&LC faction in the same generally platonic terms
as I think of Heartbreakers and Nanettes (not that the plural applies
<g>) (wouldn't it be scary to NOT think of the Heartbreaker pair
platonically? Nick and Vachon would be worse for each other than Uncle
and Tracy). Regardless, I really want to put in a pitch for "Prodigals,"
which was suggested early in this thread.

Think about the Biblical prodigal son. Then think about HL's "Prodigal
Son." Wrack your brains for all the allusions you can, and then think
about how completely -- if *twistedly* -- this describes LC's view of his
relationship with Nick. Think of LC on the radio in "NiQ:" "what we
are and who we came from." LC lets Nick stray, to the extent that he
lets Nick stray, because he knows (he thinks) that Nick will eventually
hit rock bottom and return to him. (And yes, I did just voluntarily
compare Nick with Richie. Losing your entire file system can put you in
a strange mood... Sandra, Bonnie, Vicki, Lisa: please do email me.)

This brought up something I've been wondering about regarding FK: how does
Nick go to court to testify about what he found. It's not like his partner
knows about him and can fill in for him whenever it's needed. Surely most of
this would not be done in night court. Does he go to the building before
sunup and spend the day there waiting for the sun to go down? Does the
Toronto court house have an underground parking lot so that he never has to
go into the sun? (But it seems to me he still would have to get there before
dawn so that he doesn't smoke/explode on the way to the courthouse.)

I don't know if it was in an episode or fan fiction that this question
was answered (I have one of _the_ worst memories), but Nick makes day
appearances in court via video due to his 'allergy' to sunlight.

Normally, as arresting officer, he apparently makes his appearance via
video tape, as April surmised.

In False Witness, however, he actually testified. Natalie drove him to
court in the trunk of his car and then sabotaged the pull cords on the
blinds in the courthouse so there wouldn't be any sunlight filtering into
the room.

Ray Heuer: Regarding Prozac and its "cousins"... Something people
WITH CHILDREN SHOULD ALSO BE AWARE OF: A couple years back, the cruise line I
worked for hosted a medical conference - something about drugs and
depression, I think. They also touched briefly on hyperactivity in
children. Now, damn near all these docs had to be at least 40, so
they may have been all set in their ways, too, I dunno. Anyway, as
they mentioned hyperactivity ("Attention Deficit Disorder") they
mentioned recommended drugs, ritalin (sp?) being first, along with
three or four other names. The only other one I still remember is
none other than ** ZOLOFT ** (I thought it would make a neat D&D
character name, my mind is funny like that) which you mentioned is
related to prozac...which can cause homicidal tendencies. Scary, huh?
And people wonder why I'm learning medicine when I don't plan to be a
doctor... <shaking head>

And they -think- children need help? I think the parents need help,
too - for letting the docs do that! <shudder> I'm filing this info
for reference for when I have kids, since I'm fully expecting ADD
problems. (Ah pity dah fuhl doc dat had ta deal wid me! <chuckle> as
the saying goes...)

FK QUESTION - When are new episodes airing? Sorry to sound impatient,
but I dont' want to miss it this weekend if that's when they're

It's on page 578 of the Fandata Fandom Directory #16, if anyone can
find it and wants to check it out. I managed to squeeze it in just
before it went to press. (Phew!) It should be in stores now - comic
shops, I think have the best chance of having it.

This cost $50...If anyone wants to contribute, you're welcome to
(e-mail me if you do), if not, no big deal, it's inexpensive enough I
can cover it regardless.

The advert went like this:

           ========== BEGIN TEXT QUOTE ==========

SAVE FOREVER KNIGHT!

Please urge TriStar to offer a fourth season of Forever Knight. When
writing to local stations in your area, urge them to call TriStar AND
ASK for Forever Knight - if enough local stations ask for it, it will
be renewed. BE POLITE when writing to these addresses:

     <Jon Feltheimer/address> <Kay Koplovitz/address>

And spread the word to your friends, family and everyone else you
meet. Encourage people to discover the magic of Forever Knight! USA
shows reruns at 1:am late Thursday night/early Friday morning; local
syndication listings vary by area.

           =========== END TEXT QUOTE ===========

There wasn't enough space to put an e-mail address down, sorry. This
was the biggest space I had to work with. He even put a nice
frame-border around it too, to set it off from everything else on the
page.

Thought I'd give you guys a nice surprise. <grin> If anyone wants a
copy, e-mail me for snail address and include a SASE with your
request. (otherwise I may copy-and-glue onto a postcard <tease> to
send it to ya)

(I'm pulling a half blank on this. I seem to recall Uncle saying Cousin
Michelle's favorite phrase on CERK in a second season ep, but I cannot
remember when, or in what context.)
To the issue, though, I think that a distinction can be drawn
between the sexual overtones of vampirism, which would make few, if any,
distinctions, and the continuing expression of human sexuality... Or is
that all in fanfic? Didn't Janette have sex with Nick before he was
brought over? Without vamping out? Of course, I can't think of any
examples of a male vampire managing that...

Curly is Screed. Despite the names, Curly was bald as a lightbulb. Now, if
we could just get Screed in with the Airwolf hair, we'd have to change it to

I'm proud to announce that, between ten and eleven pm tonight, March 27,
1996, I officially brought across one of my friends (if you've read "Who

that he's a Cousin (heheh), and as soon as he can get net access, he'll
probably get on the list.

Hmmmmm... this is easy. I wonder how many I could get at school?...

Whoa! *THAT* old???? Do you mean to tell me that come next Wednesday when I
turn the big 4-0 that I will suddenly become set in my ways??? Uh oh....do
you mean to say that I'll still want to watch fantasy shows like FK (I knew
I'd find a way to get FK in this post) and Highlander and the X-Men
cartoons? These are the childish ways that I'll be set in? And I'll still
get to keep my sense of humor and laugh at things like this? Well, sounds
good to me! <G>

Subject: LC's thong

I knew somebody was going to ask about this. I just knew it. :-)

I think the whole LaCroix-wearing-thong-underwear came up way back when, in
the early days of the list. We were having an erudite discussion about what
would happen if a vampire were "allergic" to all wood, not just that in
crosses or stakes, which led to an even more erudite discussion about what
kind of underwear the various FK vampires wear.

And then Toronto Trek was coming up, and a former listmember and I were going
to room together, and I was ordered by Karin to find out what that former
listmember's opinion was. The former listmember and I duly met for the first
time face-to-face (at DFW, both of us wearing Sting t-shirts so we could
recognize one another), and during the course of TT, I asked the infamous
question. She thought a minute and answered, "Purple silk thong."

I duly repeated that answer on-list.

And that's how the thong thing got started. I think. :-)

LC was most "evil" in first season, I think. When they brought him
back to "life" for second season, they toned him down, I think (he
and Nick couldn't really come to any serious blows, so they made LC
wimpier, and Nick wimpier too). In second season, much effort was
expended to make LC a more sympathetic character. Third season LC
has been used less (due to new characters, I guess), but appears when
he *is* used more to be in the same sort of vein as second season.

The major problem, to me, for both second and third seasons is TPTB's
willingness to tell a story without tying it enough to the characters.
Not that I don't enjoy the creativeness of a lot of the stories, but
when the characters are more *involved* (or *considered*), you get
better episodes (like The Fix, A More Permanent Hell, Night in Question,
Sons of Belial, Fever, etc.).

Try June 2th.

The list say that it will begin starting May 27th which means you will
receive it on June 2th.

Uncle's directing debut, Franscisca (sp) will be on MAy 25th.

I'm having two parties. (in the LA area, of course)

Subject: First Season Questions and Thoughts

I have recently obtained copies of the first season, and I have some questions.

1) Dying to Know You-- What was the deal with the crime story. Why were the
wife and daughter kidnapped? I understand the plot with Nick an the psychic
 and the flashback.

2) I Will Repay-- I got the feeling that Nick wasn't telling Richard everything.
As a matter of fact he was a lousy teacher. Was part of the "lesson" cut out
 of the American version?

3) Unreality TV-- Why did the enforcers have a beef with Nick? He wasn't the
one photographed in mid-air, and it wasn't his job "to take care of it." Or am
 I missing something.

4) Love You to Death-- who was LaCroix having for dinner in that closing scene?
Was that scene paving the way for the second season opener.

Also, that nasty growling. They sound more like wolves or dogs than vampires.
It was a real treat to actually see Nick fly, but I have to say I prefer the
"wooshing" I am accustomed to. It's much more mysterious.

Another question. What's the deal about the full moon? Are FK vamps only able
to fly during a full moon or what? I don't get it. Nice effect, but I just
don't get it. Please don't get me wrong, I loved the first season, and it some
ways it's better than the current third season.

I feel thatSchanke is definitely a better partner than Tracy and better comic
relief. I'll stop with that one right now before I'm incinerated by
 Perkulators.

Finally, name this ep. Several months ago (maybe even a year) I caught one
scene of the second season before a power outage. Nick sensed something and
flew over to a dumpster where a woman was being killed. He tried to catch the
killer and save the girl but the killer took off. So Nick is standing over the
body of this dead woman when the cops arrive on the scene. That's all I saw,
before lightning struck and knocked my power out.

Thanks for your patience!!!

hasn't repeated yet. The last one they showed was NiQ. Maybe this
