Subject: Another scary thought!!

Well, now that I am getting mail again, I thought I would add another log
to the fire from the vast wasteland, called my mind, about a scary FK scene.
This comes from listening to way too much Village People recently.

Can anyone picture our favorite vamps in Village People outfits, dancing
or singing or whatever to YMCA, or In The Navy, or Macho Man!!

Who would wear what outfit?? Here are my suggestions:

Nick: the construction worker - I don't think he wears a shirt
LaCroix: the indian - for obvious reasons that I don't dare put into words
Vachon: I think there was a punk, so that would be him
Screed: the navy guy because he said he spent most of his life at sea
Schanke: the only other guy who was on the show, could be the cop

Who would everyone else put into these outfits??

Subject: Mollin and The Odessey

I was flicking around the tv today and came across a kids' show called
The Oddessey on CBC. What caught my attention was the music. It seemed
to have a very FK feel to it. Sure 'nuff, I tuned back in for the
credits, and the score came from Fred Mollin.
Anyone know when this show ran? it's only a half-hour program, but I
still couldn't see someone having the time to do both shows at once, and
it did look fairly modern.

Hey, Hey All

I found it really interesting that the title on this particular
webpage is "24hrs In Cyberspace."

It actually sounds as if they took the text directly out of
Cynthia's FK Appreciation Week news release.

10? I beg to differ. Try at least a hundred. They obviously
never did a web search on Forever Knight.

HEY! What about us lowly mailing list people? Did the newsgroups
organize this charity drive? NO. Did the fan clubs? NO. We did,
we did, we did!!!! <stomping foot>

Fourth season? This is their show and they don't even know what
season it's in? Tippi, did you say aardvarks? I think you're
doing a disservice to aardvarks.

Nope, all around it burns my britches (bowing to anti-obscenity
rule). They've been telling us for months that they can't give out
this information and it was already out -- legal implications, yeah
right. Sorry, but I'm getting tired of the "poor stupid little

Sorry for ranting (only one more week of Master's Thesis hell to

I believe the cut-off for "Adult" is anything above PG-13. So, for example,
descriptions of bare (male) chests or common expletives (sh*t, d*mn, etc) would
be non-Adult. The infamous 'f-word' or explicit sex (or descriptions of same)
would be "Adult". If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Subject: late entry: CPR, fangs

I realize that these topics are kind of old, but I just got caught
up on my digests, and had to throw in my $o.o2 worth.

1. The Hound -- not just a hound
On the question of what kind of dog was the Hound of the
Baskervilles, I offer this quote from Chapter XIV of Doyle's novel:
"In mere size and strength it was a terrible creature which was
lying stretched before us. It was not a pure bloodhound and it was
not a pure mastiff; but it appeared to be a combination of the
two..."
With of course some phosphorous thrown in, for the neat-o
glow-in-the-dark-hell-hound effect.

2. CPR
Vampires could of course control their strength to give CPR to a
mortal, just as adult mortals control theirs to give CPR to small
babies. That doesn't change the fact that I have yet to see CPR
performed correctly on FK (allowing that I haven't seen any first
season eps).

3. Fangs
My problem with fangs (in all vampire lore, not just FK) is that
they always appear way to short to reach either the internal
jugular vein or carotid artery. The external jugular would
probably be in reach (at least if the person wasn't real fat) but I
wonder if it would have enough blood flow.

Well, I guess I'll crawl back under my rock now, and go back to
studying.

Let's see, that leaves 8 hours 35 minutes in which he can be outdoors.
If he works from, say, 8pm-4am, that means in June he's probably late for
work a lot, and he sure as heck doesn't do any overtime that month!

But in December and January, when the nights are over 14 hours long, he
has lots of opportunities to do catch-up overtime. :^)

Hello beloved listfolks,

Since I've had way too much time this weekend, I decided to put my Painter
software to some use (it's been collecting dust for years) and edit pictures
to my heart's delight. As a new Valentine I couldn't resist the tempation to
put together a picture that all Valentines might love to see taken for real.
It's composed of pics gleaned from the wonderful sources and people on this
list who have scanners (I don't, whaaa!), that have made their bounty of
images available. Thanks you all!
I've also thrown in a few little ones which just go to show that if you take
the cast pictures and ruthlessly edit out Nick, you can make a great case for
becoming a Valentine!

If anyone's got any other ideas about what kind of pairings might benefit
from a bit of editing, let me know. This is fun!

Anyway, this is done in part to try out my ftp site (I finally realized I had
one of those too!) The pics are in gif format, and if anyone has any
problems in downloading, tell me about it. I probably won't know how to fix
it, but I guess I should know about it. :)
Go to=>   ftp://members.aol.com/KerrRaven/
Once there, they're in ForevrKnitePics/Valentines

Off to find more pics to meddle with, hee hee!

You know...I just went to check this page out and it struck me as VERY odd
that it is not at ALL laid out like any of the other Sony pages. Also, look
at their FK logo. Wouldn't they use the *actual* logo instead of one that
looks like they wandered over to the SOS page and lifted it?

Okay, I'm not really *that* cynical about romance. ;) I believe there could
be UFOs. I believe a human being might bend a penny with the power of
his/her mind. I believe true love may very well exist. But I do not believe
Nick and Nat are soulmates. They stagnate together, eternally revolving
around one another, never coming together, both afraid to make a move. It's
like two people trying to play chess without making any moves.

Nick and Lacroix belong togther. Period. However, I am willing to
acknowledge the fact that a relationship between those two would be
completely destructive and eventually annhilate both parties. Kind of like a
black hole sucking everything toward it. Or sodium coming in contact with
oxygen. KABOOM! But chemistry ain't enough to sustain a relationship.
"Chemistry fizzles, baby." Therefore, they need an anchor. A third side to
the formula, so to speak. The hydrogen bond that makes H2O into water
instead of gas. And who is that bond? Well, it used to be Janette. Now I
think it's Nat. Go read Twithted's "Trio" story. Nuff said.

What's the faction name for this? Personally, I like "Menage Lacroix". Has
a nice ring to it. ;)

I don't think you can use the ol' F-word on any of the FKFIC incarnations,
adult or otherwise. I say this because when I posted "Lucien Lacroix:
Romance Writer" to jadfe, I asked if I could also post a toned-down version
to FKFIC: ADULT. I was told which words I would have to change, and the
F-word was one of em. The two C-words (male and female) were also to be
removed.

Also, I'm thinking that the S-word belongs on the adult list, not the general
list. I'm not sure about that. I think the rule is the same for FORKNI:
Hell, damn, and bitch are okay. Other stuff is not.

Here's the rule I go by (these are just my own personal guidelines and not
meant to be taken as canon):

1. FKFIC: Hill Street Blues. Cagney and Lacey. Basically no more violent
or sex-infused than what you'd see on an FK ep. You'd let your parents read
a story posted here.
2. FKFIC-ADULT: NYPD Blue. Naked butts (Sipowicz=Schanke) are allowed.
Certain curse words are allowed. But, as on NYPD Blue, no F-words are
allowed. You'd let your college writing teacher read a story from here.
3. JADFE: Any of the numerous porn videos out there dealing with prison
themes. ;) (JADFE is not all porn, of course, but I'm just stating what the
top-end limits are in each list, IMO.) You and a significant other would
read stories from here, late at night, while trying to figure out where the
handcuffs go.

Boy, this brings me back to the good ol' days of my kid-hood. All these
"f-word" euphemisms are making me nostaligic. ;)

You know, guys... I just figured it out...

The title is "24 Hours in Cyberspace," right?

Well that was the name of a project done sometime in Feb...
kind of like those "A Day in the Life of..." picture books.

You could submit stories about really interesting/creative uses
of the net and they were collecting the best or somesuch...
I don't remember it *real* well....

So, did Sony consider submitting *us*? Did they and it just didn't get
taken? Did someone *else* do so and Sony got ahold of the entry?
(As a prof. web-page designer myself, I frequently will copy
entire other pages and then dissect them for details and tricks
I want to use on my stuff... of course, I don't usually do that
*on-line*... but who knows....)

So, any ideas? Anyone else remember this project (preferably someone

Just to clarify something someone asked about, X-rated stories /can/ be
posted here. Just use of the Adult: topic and perhaps some blank lines
or warning before each part of the story would be appropriate. An Adult:
topic wasn't meant to keep X or NC-17-rated stories off the list, but
just keep it so that it's not automatic that everyone gets them. This
basically covers our butts with PSU and helps keep Laurie her job.

I hope that's cleared /that/ up.

You haven't been on JADFE long enough, have you Tippi...prison themes? I
think I'm almost insulted.. ;)

>(JADFE is not all porn, of course, but I'm just stating what the

Yes it is *Lacivious Grin* But the main thing is that SOME of us do it
with panache, style, class -if you will.

*ROLF*!!!! I *wish* I had my signifigant other here to look over my
shoulder. But we make do -we just trade stories over jadfe *wink* ..It's
a nice arangement, really... ;)

So can I convince any of you to send me some Ribena in a box?

You're right, Deb. If it wasn't a real, authentic Sony URL, I'd say some FK fan
 cobbled together a pseudo-Sony webpage. Don't suppose there's a snowball's
chance in Hades that they were actually considering putting up a 'brag page'
before NATPE, then got scared off, do y'think? We did kinda blow them out of
the water there. <she said, buffing her fingernails on her shirt front>

What can I say Celeste, I like emoticons :) I've even actually
been dubbed the Queen of Emoticons by a listie :)

Anyway, back to business, we are exactly $998.50 short of the
$10,000 mark. If you haven't donated and would like to, please
feel free to do so (or contact me if you need more details).

And of course, thank you to everyone who has already donated once
and sometimes twice.  You're all bootiful people {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}

Anyway, now that I'm thinking about it, <trying to get English
major mind to do the math> if everyone signed on to this list sent
in a check for $1.11, we'd be there :) hee-hee-hee
Now, that's a possibility :)

Actually, I almost submitted stuff about SOS-FK to this project, since a
friend of mine (who is also on-list) was working for the project.
Unfortunately, the day they chose was also the day that the
Communications Act was passed, or right around then, so most web pages
that I would have mentioned (and Sony's was NOT amongst them) were black.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Sony submitted themselves though.
There was no limitation on who/what got submitted and they strike me as
just unscrupulous enough to use us that way to get attention.

Then they probably stored their 250 word blurb on line thinking no one
would find it.

I'm not aware that I ever saw a list of the pages that got chosen for
coverage; anyone else see one?

I would be GLAD to be a BETA reader. If you like, you could sent the whole
thing to me as a one-file e-mail attachment, which I could proof-read,
correct and send back to you. I have a few suggestions that might make
the story easier to read AND post.

1. Use a TEXT EDITOR, not a WORD PROCESSOR program to compose the story.
This would automatically avoid many of the problems associated with
translating non-ASCII control codes, and would give you a better idea what
the story would look like once it is posted. Most TEXT EDITORS can be
configured to wrap lines, and many have macro capability (with either key
or compiled macros or both).

2. Use BLANK LINES rather that TAB INDENTS to denote paragraphs. The
expansion of tab characters is variable, and can cause the first line of a
paragraph to wrap unpredictably. If indents MUST be used, use a fixed
number of spaces rather than a tab.

3. Many older mail readers are limited to a 72 character line length,
making this the recommended value. Larger sizes may be used, but they
leave little room for error. If you are planning on printing your story
out, a 65 character line length will leave roon for 1 inch margins on both
sides of the page.

4. Some mail programs find quotes very difficult to handle. While often
this can be avoided by using a text editor (see point 1), it is better to
check your mailer to see what the defaults are.

I'm also sending this message to the FORKNI list, in the hopes it will
help generate more readable stories.

This Merc Page you've set up had better be good. I just tried to do it
via LYNX, but there's so many images listed I figured I'd better go use a
visual browser.

I just got dressed again and now I'm gonna go trek across campus in the
rain to use a MAC. This had better be DAMN good....

Oh okay, fine.

It was worth the trek, but let me say this -I am SOAKED! It was
drizzling when I looked out the window, really. And when I got outside,
it was POURING. But wait, it gets better. "Don't like the weather?"
they say, "Wait 5 minutes." It started to hail.

*whine* ..*ahem*

But I'm sitting here lusting after these swords and wondering if it would
be a bad thing for me to send the url to my b/f (Highlander freak) -I
think it might be too much of a temptation ..then again, so am...er
um..wrong list.

So maybe after this brief war hiatus I'll c onsider making gifts of some
of these to my favorite for-hires.

I believe that, at the moment of his apparent death, LC sent his katra
(that ST for spirit, folks) into Alyce's body, totally displacing any soul
that might have remained. Over the next year, he reshaped that body into
his preferred form, not only changing its appearance but its actual gender
using his indomitable will (although he may have needed a little surgical
help). When he returned, the only evidence of this tremendous transforma-
tion was the occasional lapse into uncharacteristic behaviour, caused by a
few isolated surviving fragments of Alyce's personality. (At least, that
is the only evidence we will have until he leads Amateur Night. <VBEG>)

Which is why will never see Alyce again. (Or will we?)
