Unfortunately, outside of fanfic, we know practically diddley about
Vachon's social class when he was a mortal. We know he was in the
Spanish military (I forget which explorer he was under, but that's
neither here nor there). But, if their military is anything like ours,
there's no way to assume any sort of social class from that. Unless he
mentioned something in passing that I didn't catch. Anyone?

> 3. Does Natalie have a boss? What is his/her name and title?

Hmm. Well, if Nat does have a superior, there has never been any
mention or sign of him or her in any episode, that I recall. But,
someone else may have a better idea of how coroners fits into the
general structure of city government.

> 4. Have Natalie and Nick's working hours ever been expressly detailed in FK
> shows?

Nick works nights, probably along the lines of dusk to dawn. Stonetree
mentioned in Dark Knight how Nick told him he was allergic to sunlight,
so he let him work nights. Now, if Toronto is anything like Anchorage,
the sunrise/sunset thing varies wildly there over the course of the
year, making it such that he quite possibly could only work an hour or
two in midsummer. I always figured he made up for it by working extra
hours in winter. But I don't ever remember him keeping specific hours
(he can't actually, for the exact reason I just said).

Usually, we only see Natalie working nights, of course, but she has been
known to work days, as well. In Only the Lonely, it was actually sunny
when she took her lunch break, so she must work days at least some of the
time. But I would guess not often. And it would seem that she gets off
work a little before he does, from all the times she's met him at dawn in
his apartment, before she's gone home herself, from the looks of things.

But all this is getting highly subjective on my part. Anybody else want
to fill in my gaps?

I know that was a dig...but I'm still trying to figure out exactly what
kind of dig it was meant to be...

Contrary to what many of you have been led to believe; there actually is

>1. Given what we know about him, what was Vachon's likely social class and

Based on a History of Mexico class from long, LONG ago (but by a leading expert
in the field), most of the Conquistadors were younger sons of the nobility.
Castillians who hoped to be made "hidalgos" (lords) in their own right by
conquering large chunks of the New World for Spain. So it's likely that Vachon
was a younger son of a Castillian noble family. But that's just an educated
guess.

>2. How would men and women of his social class likely have greeted one
>another when introduced for the first time? (Bows? Curtseys? Hand kisses?)

Well, depends. The man would probably kiss the woman's hand, bowing over it.
She'd curtsey. Man to man, it could be anything from mutual bows (in formal
situations) to hearty back-slapping between fellow-soldiers. It varied a lot.
Any Elizabethan experts out there want to go into more detail? :)

>How about if he were introduced to a woman of a higher social class?

Bow over her hand, if she offered it.

Having FK on Sci-FI is better than not showing the series at all - except that I
can't get it here in Newport. The local cable station doesn't carry SF and even
tho we've begged and screamed it still hasn't happened. I understand that Cox
Cable has purchased it and Cox carries the SF channel (they have it in the

Subject: Forever Knight Wishing Crane Project Update 3/14/96

We are invoking an old Japanese tradition that states that if you fold 1000
origami cranes, wishing the same wish with each fold, your wish will come true.
We want to send "wishing crane" mobiles to all three Sony USA executives,
incorporating our wish for a fourth season of Forever Knight.

As of today, we have recieved 871 cranes.

We need 3000.

The deadline for mailing your folded cranes was supposed to be March 17 (this
Sunday) but I will move it back if we don't receive enough cranes. Please do
try to mail all the cranes you have folded no later than Monday, 3/18, and don't
forget to include a note to Sony, explaining why you want a fourth season.

Details of the Project can be found on the FK Wishing Crane website:

http://www.execpc.com/~echelbar/fkcranes.html

For folding instructions, try one of these two websites:

http://www-personal.umich.edu/~adysart/origami/crane1.html

and

http://jw.stanford.edu/KIDS/SCHOOL/ART/origami/kids_origami_crane1.html

Bonnie has also offered to e-mail written instructions. Contact her at
bonnie@o.......

Or go to your local library. Most of them have origami books, and the crane is
one of the most common patterns, so any book is sure to have it.

Please use 3" (7.5cm) paper. It's important that all the cranes be the same
size, for aesthetic reasons, if nothing else. You can use real origami paper,
or cut squares out of wrapping paper, or any pretty, fairly thin paper.

If you're *east* of the Mississippi-- or outside the US-- e-mail me
(gryphon@e.......). Tell me where you're from and I'll send you the
appropriate address to mail your cranes to. Viper is Eastern Coordinator, but
his internet provider keeps giving him grief over the volume of mail he's
getting from the list. If you're *west* of the Mississipi, e-mail Bonnie at
bonnie@o....... and she'll give you *her* mailing address. She's Western
Coordinator.

Keep in mind that 10 cranes, tucked into a business envelope (with a note on
why you love FK and want to see it continue), will weigh more than one ounce.
So, you'll need to put more than one stamp on it.

Bonnie and Viper will then assemble the mobiles and ship them off to the
appropriate Sony executives.

And please remember, for this to work, you must *concentrate*, with each fold,
on *wishing for a fourth season of Forever Knight*!

E-mail me with any questions.

Subject: I may be over thinking this but.......

Hi All,

I have a hard time being negative - no really I do:-) but something I got in
the mail really annoyed me and I thought I would share. Yes (for those of
you in doubt) this is on topic. About two and a half weeks ago I sent a
letter to my local CBS station (which is the same address as I use for FK,
which is shown on CBS in LA) about how much I like Due South. Today I got a
letter in the mail thanking me for my interest in Due South and their
programming etc. OK - it was a standard form letter but at least I know
someone opened my letter and read it enough to send me a form letter.

Which got me to thinking - that I have never received a letter of reply for
anything I sent for FK - not from tristar, sony, my local station - nothing!!!

It made me think about the relative disregard that our feelings and comments
were given in the decision to cancel FK. I know some people have received
responses but I was really bugged that CBS (I am happy they cared that I
like Due South but.....) sent me a letter so quickly and I never received
any response from anyone having to do with FK.

Some how I feel that those involved with canceling FK thought that we were
an annoyance better to be ignored than legitimate viewers that they wanted
to cultivate.

Just feelings that I wanted to share,

I have to agree with WCT on this one. It is nice for those who have
cable and such, but for those of us who don't the thought of FK only
being on SciFi is really not a pleasant one. I may be able to get the
channel when I'm in school, but cable television is NOT allowed in my
home. Syndication is the only place that I can feed on FK. I prefer the
atmosphere of the SciFi channel to that of USA, even though they are under
pretty much of the same rule, but I would still rather have FK on syndication
and still going for more seasons. Of course, wouldn't we all. Oh well,
just had to add my two cents worth,

I don't see this as "winning" any more than Jamie does. They had planned to

I wouldn't have found FK except for the commercials which were run on the

I agree with Jamie in that USA thinks this is going to get them off the
hook and they bowed to our pressure. While we can't tell them *exactly*
what we think of them, there are certainly ways to convey to both USA and
SFC that while this is a good thing it by no means lets them off the hook
as far as new episodes are concerned.

I intend to drop both USA and SFC a note to that effect tomorrow, on the
one hand thanking them for airing the reruns, and on the other reminding
them that I still would very much like them to reconsider their decision
about new episodes of FK. I'm also going to urge them to run FK on both
USA and SFC so that more people can find it. And I'm going to cc my
letters to TriStar.

If nothing else, it'll serve as a reminder to both USA and TriStar that
we're not stupid and that as far as we're concerned, getting the reruns,
something that was planned all along, is no victory and certainly no reason
for us to stop writing about new FK.

I mean, *really*! They obviously think we're incredibly stupid if we're
going to say, "Oh cool! They made some new episodes" when in fact they're
the same episodes that finished out 3rd season in syndication, episodes
that *we* had a hand in getting no matter what anybody says! I think they
all need a *constant* reminder that we're not the mindless idiots they
obviously think we are.

Subject: FILK: It's a Small World -- Revised

I hate to do it, since I imagine FILK is getting a little
old by now, but someone mentioned "It's a Small World."
(I'm not sure if they wanted a story or a song. I
did the song...) Hope someone likes it.

Chana

A Vampire After All
(Sung to the tune It's a Small World)

LaCroix wandered out
In the dark of night
Extremely hungry he wanted a bite
He was looking for prey
And a new protegee
He's a vampire after all

He's a vampire after all
He's a vampire after all
He's a vampire after all
He's a lean, mean, vamp

At the loft that night
Nat was waiting for Nick
Unaware LaCroix planned a mean little trick
Through the window he came
With a hunger she'd tame
He's a vampire after all

He's a vampire after all
He's a vampire after all
He's a vampire after all
He's a lean, mean, vamp

It was just after four
Finally Nick got back
He did not yet know what happened to Nat
You can guess his surprise
When Nat smiles and confides
"I'm a vampire after all"

She's a vampire after all
She's a vampire after all
She's a vampire after all
She's a brand, new, vamp.

PS -- I'm a Knightie, a Natpacker, and a Nick&Natpacker.
But I think I just wandered into NatVampCamp. :-)

We have empirical evidence that vampires (and not just the actors
portraying them) can breathe as often as the wish, ie they speak. Speech
is created by passing breath through the vocal cords in a controlled
manner while further modulating the sounds by the position of various
mouth parts.

One might postulate that they don't actually speak but use their mental
powers to create the illusion of speech. However the use of electronic
communications devices (telephones, answering machines, radio waves, etc)
belies that argument.

Subject: Message from the Sci-Fi Channel!!!

The article below is directly off the <alt.t.v.forever-knight> newsgroup!

Reactions, anyone??????????

Greetings!

Let me introduce myself - I am "The Creature from the Programming
Department." I write a monthly column on Sci-Fi Channel's website, The
Dominion,
recommending movies and series episodes that are especially noteworthy but
likely to
get overlooked. When I'm not doing that, I also program Sci-Fi Channel's
series. It is up to me to get the running order of series absolutely correct.

In case you haven't heard, Sci-Fi Channel has picked up FOREVER KNIGHT.
We will air the series on Mondays at 8pm and 12am Eastern time in the U.S.,
beginning April 22. The episodes will premiere in syndication the weekend
prior to their airing on Sci-Fi.

While we will begin with season 3, we plan to begin the series again
with the pilot episode and seasons 1 & 2, once season 3 has concluded. For
this, however, we are trying to determine the EXACT CORRECT running order of
all 3
seasons' episodes. If you are 100% sure of the running order, please e-mail us
at creature@w....... with the complete list & original airdates (if
known). If you're not sure, please don't e-mail. If there has been any debate
about the order of certain episodes, please let us know that as well. While
official episode numbers are often a good guide, it has been our experience
that they are not 100% reliable.

While I hope many of you will be grateful to hear that we've decided to
carry Forever Knight, you do not need to send us any thank-you e-mails; just
watch the show. :) If you have general questions or comments, you can send
them to feedback@w........

In case you're wondering, there are no plans at this time to continue
FK into a fourth season.

Thanks for all your help!

Subject: FK on SciFi: a poll

OK, I confess to being more than a little ticked off 'cause my cable bills
keep climbing and they still don't offer the SciFi channel. But seriously,
does anyone know what the penetrance of the SciFi channel acutally is?
(Oooh, interesting choice of words there. I somehow slipped into
jadfe-speak.) Does anyone on this list actually get the channel? Inquiring
minds want to know.

Well, maybe not everyone wants to read tons of *me too* posts, so I guess
I'll take an informal poll. Anyone who wants to tell me if they do or
don't get the channel can email me *privately* (y'all watch that reply
function, y'hear?). I'll post the results when I damn well feel like it.
(Oops, sorry, that should say in a week or so - I guess I'm still angry
w/USA and the SciFi scam and about missing Airwolf.)

It has been one of those days. Perhaps I should follow Cousin Jamie's
example and get something pierced.

But since you announced that you were going to call the Mercs, don't
you think if something happens, you'll be the first suspect anyway? :)
Then, of course, she'll have to hire a Merc to get back at you, etc.,
etc.

Pretty soon all the attacks will just be done by Mercs.

Too bad they got that "can't attack other Mercs" clause or factions
could just have Mercs attacking rival Mercs like Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em
Robots and we could just sit back and watch. ;)

As much as its good to have a big company on your side, I definately prefer
FK on syndication. Why?, you ask.
Here in Pittsburgh, we finally have FK stabilized on a good station, WPGH,
our Fox affiliate. It airs saturday nights at 10pm. Also, in the city
limits, we have no choice but to use TCI cable, who so obnoxiously refuse to
carry the SciFi Channel.

Too often, we have been screwed around by our TV stations. I'm sure fellow
burghers' remember how they bounced FK around from KDKA to WPTT. I used to
have to stay up till 2 am Sun/Mon (I am a night person, but when you have a
10am class, its not cool!) to watch FK on KDKA, and then out of the blue
with no notice, during the second season, they switch it to midnight.
Consequently, this made me miss Killer Instinct, A fate Worse Than death and
Stranger Than Fiction (I still haven't seen STF or Father's Day) ggrrrrr!

And if that isn't bad enough, this third season, it was really bounced
around. Beginning of season, it went to WPTT, then was switched to WPGH.
And of course, this had to happen when Fever was aired. So the next ep on
WPGH was Dead of Night.

But WPGH came to our rescue and everything is cool. I don't feel like
switching again.
