Two more things:

Yes, the hand-and-burning-cross number is Nick, from the Joan of Arc scenes

Subject: which season do you like best?

I found FK midway through the second season but have now seen all the eps. I
have to say that the first season episodes were of a higher quality
writing-wise *overall*, and that yes, they were pretty steamy sometimes, but
that the steam was backed up consistently by *good story,* with integral
flashbacks and characters that we cared about. FK has always been full of
inconsistencies, and first season had its share, too, but overall, I think
first season deserves its pedestal.

Now, second season was also *very* good. And I liked *all* of the second
season episodes--even ones that got knocked, like "Capitol Offense." <gasps
from the listfolk--but I LIKED it. Honest!) Yeah, you could drive a Mac
truck through the plot holes in that one, but it was still about *Nick and
his quest for redemption,* no matter how poorly done. I think second season
was more uneven than first, but I attribute that to "growing pains." And,
overall, second season was highly enjoyable, maybe not as intense and angsty
on the whole as first season, but really, really good stuff nonetheless.
Complete with the requisite inconsistencies that we all have a love/hate
realtionship with. :)

I guess what I'm saying in an over-tired, stressed-by-real-life,
wanna-go-to-bed-NOW kind of way <g> is that, prior to third season, even when
an episode stank, you always knew its heart was in the right place, and that
it was still *trying* to stick to the premise of a vampire who wants to be
mortal again. "Capitol Offense" is a prime example of this--it wasn't good,
but it had good intentions. :-)

Then third season came along...and all of a sudden, FK was a different
animal, except for the voice-over narration in the opening. And the changes
that USA/whomever made were sooo blatantly just marketing ploys, with no
consideration given to what FK was about. And there have just plain been
too many "Forever Vetter episodes." Up until episode 10, "Night in Quesion,"
there was not one third season episode that I would care to watch over and
over the way I have with first and second season (not that I *loved* every ep
of those seasons, either, but I *would* watch them if they were rerun).
There were *parts* of those episodes that I would watch again (by
fastforwarding on my videotapes), but I have to admit that I did *not* watch
them when they were rerun on USA or my syndie station. After "NiQ,"
everything got mucho better. Tracy for the most part became sort of
bearable; I could live with her, anyhow. There was far less Vachon (sorry
Vaqueras--but although the character does have potential, TPTB could never
figure out how to use it and it never translated to the screen; he fares far,
far better in fanfic...all "imho" of course!). And the characters became
recognizable again. I think "NiQ" and "Dead of Night" are two of the best
episodes FK has produced regardless of season, so the quality *is* still
there when FK is *allowed* to be FK!

Such rambling...I really should go sleepy-bye and stop subjecting you guys to
my tired brain's musings. :-)

As for whether or not which season you saw first influences your opinion...I
saw second season prior to any others, and I still think first season should
rank highest. Right off the bat, there is such a sense of family among the
characters, and they *clicked.* The stories *worked.* And they kept on
working right through second season, then only worked in fits and starts for
a while when 3rd season started, and have been working their way back to
where they were before ever since, with occasional moments of brilliance.

Subject: PR push for FK; mug shots of KK and RP

And to add my two cents on this debate; reading from the profile of KK 'way
back when, did anyone else recognize that she was a tennis champion in her
youth?

And what were the pivot on which the FK ads on USA turned at the beginning of
the season?

The U.S. Open coverage.

To give the dev- er, that's *tv executive*, her due <G>, Kay probably lobbied
long and hard and paid mucho bucks for the rights to coverage of the U.S.
Open, no doubt dear to her heart; so by her lights, she was doing FK a major
favor by tying Ger in with the Open, a purchasing coup for USA. I agree, it
doesn't compete with the X-Files coverage, but that wasn't really USA's
problem. USA is not Fox; USA was attempting to step into purchase of a
"known" property, not start their own dynasty with FK as its foundation.

If anything, it was *Tri-Star's* responsibility to open the coffers for a big
publicity budget in the first place, during the second if not even the first
CBS season. I know I've said this before, but here it is again:

Until USA, I had never *seen* an FK ad.

I didn't know they existed. I'd never heard a promo. My local TV guide
doesn't carry episode descriptions. It doesn't list episode titles. It's
even managed to remove adjectives, definitive articles, and most verbs, from
its parlance: i.e. "Three's Company: Chrissie sits on cake." "Fresh
Prince of Bel-Air: Ashley has boyfriend." And so on.

<SIGH>

Speaking of television executives---

I need to know what *dear* Kay looks like. Also Rod Perth, just in case.
Don't ask why, I just do <G>. Erica knows, Karen knows.... soon everyone
subscribed to FKFIC may very well know <EG>. Anyone who can sketch me a
bare-bones physical description, please do so.

An accordant honor may very well be arranged for you (and Erica, and Karen)
in the future story, once I figure out what the h*** I'm talking about. The
story will have to drop after "Francesca", though, in order to make any
sense.

Subject: Alternate casts

While trying to come up with my own "If you can't have the
original actors, who would you cast?" list, I came up with some
of the same ones that everyone else did (Kenneth Branagh for
Nick an obvious choice!) and then my creativity fizzled. Flailing
around desperately, it ocurred to me that the actor who plays
Susan Ivanova on B5 would make a good Natalie. I'm sitting
there thinking "C'mon, what's her name... Claudia... Claudia...
it's _not_ Schiffer even if she was a model, dang... what is her
NAME???" when my brain crashes completely and spews up
the following:

Babylon 5 does Forever Knight!

Nick Knight = John Sheridan (definite white-knight complex,
charming -- okay, so he needs to work on the angst a bit... )
Janette DuCharme = Delenn (beautiful, sophisticated, somewhat
       mysterious, has a cool accent)
Natalie Lambert = Susan Ivanova (intensely dedicated to her work,
no-nonsense, a somewhat dark sense of humor -- and her
batting average in romantic relationships is nearly as bad as
       Nat's!)
Don Schanke = Vir (a nice guy, smarter than he seems, but
badly out of his depth in the situation) or Garibaldi (good
at his job, loyal to his friends, tends to write off wild
       theories...)
Stonetree = G'Kar (frequently talks in parables that no one else
understands and makes vague allusions... )
Tracy Vetter = Talia Winters (okay, this one's more based on
physical resemblance between the actors, but there's a
       similar "trying-to-be-cool-and-tough-over-vulnerability"
       feel between the characters)
Vachon = Marcus (you've got one guess what prompted -this-
match up... and yes, it has lots more to do with hormones
       than character logic <G>)

Of course, I still wound up missing a suitable LaCroix. I guess
that says something about how thoroughly Mr. Bennet put his
stamp on the character -- even joking around I can't envision
anyone else in the role!

Can I blame the above on inhaling cinnamon fumes for too
long? Didn't think so... sigh. And I still can't remember... oh,
yeah, Claudia Christiansen to play Natalie. (Yes, that's a
serious suggestion.)

By the way... to whomever did the "Mr. Ed" filk -- AAAARRRGHH!
I couldn't decide whether to laugh or whimper, and just sat there
choking as I read it!

To justify myself (not that it matters), I said the episode with Joan

but blanked on that title. Didn't imply it was *in* "Last Act."

Subject: Liking different seasons

I just had a thought (yes, it hurt).

I think which season you like best not only has to do with when you
started. I saw one season 2 episode, Blood Money and said uh huh. I
started watching season 3 because of the number of commercials USA dumped
during the HL reruns. I watche BB 1 and 2, still with a sense of "huh?"
and went scurrying to the boards to find out more about this show. A
lovely, lovely person provided me with tapes of the first and second
seasons, which I watched in marathon sessions over a few weekends.

(Point of this post is approching.) I asked a lot more of the third season
episodes than I did the tapes I was watching because I had to wait a week
for the new ones. If one of the taped episodes was bad, oh well, ziiiiip
on through. I didn't critizie them as harshly as I did the first-run
episodes. (Although Cherry Blossoms was boring.) I remember watching
Blind Faith, and during commercials watching the tape of Can't Run, Can't
Hide. I panned BF and loved CRCH.

Did this make any sense?

I thought I should add that the the fact that the jacket is
partly leather made it a little more expensive than the
usual promotional stuff and so the crew did pay for these jackets,
albeit at less than something like "Wilson's Leather" retail prices.
I am pretty sure the sweatshirts and other things were free but

Now that I've seen the first two seasons, I'm rewatching the third season
(or waiting for the ones I've missed to come around on re-runs), and
there seem to be a much higher percentage of episodes that just plain
have nothing to do with the main characters. Even in "Hearts of

In the meantime, I do believe I have deleted all the bogus accounts.
Unfortunately, this also meant that any list, where I have owner privs, I

Another contribution to the Pooh thread....

LaCroix--Christopher Robin (This *is* his universe. He's the one that always
assumes that philosophical tone and mode.)

Nick--Eyore (Who has more angst in the Pooh universe than Eyore.)

Janette--Roo (This one is sensible and playful.)

Natalie--Kanga (She "mothers" and "doctors", 'nuff said.)

Schanke--Pooh (Lots of fun and mischeif...Oh bother!)

Tracy--Tiger (She's the bouncy one, of course.)

Vachon--Gopher (Hey, he's used to the dark. Blink. Blink.)

Reece--Owl (He doesn't always know what's going on, but he's wise.)

Subject: Re: The New Pooh's Corner

Being this list's original Tigger, I hereby proclaim the following:

LaCroix CANNOT be Tigger. My best theory at this point is that LaCroix
is a Heffalump. (I'm not too fond of the notion of his being Christopher
Robin, either, but can't speak with any real authority there. ;-) ) And
since none of us has ever actually observed a Heffalump in his native
habitat (with the possible exception of Pooh, who had his head stuck in a
hunny jar at the time), this theory cannot be proved or disproved. But
he CANNOT be Tigger.

Janette would never consider being Tigger (not that anyone has suggested
it to my knowledge, but I'm covering all my bases here). Since they're
all stuffed toys and hence reasonably gender-neutral, I'm going to say
Janette is Owl.

Vachon, the Rebel Without a Clue, could easily be Tigger. (Well, *you*
try to de-bounce him...hmmm, does that indicate that Nick is Rabbit?)

Tracy is *definitely* Tigger. One had better not even *try* to de-bounce
her. However, those Bouncing-Quietly Lessons are having some marginal
effect...

Natalie was Tigger a fair amount first season, but increasingly less so
since then. Since I'm Tigger and I'm a NatPacker (and of course bouncing
*is* a defining characteristic of the 'Pack as a whole), I don't like
having to say that, but it's true. She has been considerably
de-bounced. :-(

None of the captains has the slightest discernible trace of Tigger, with
the possible exception of Stonetree and that accordion trophy...

Nick is Tigger on occasion. Nick is EVERYONE on occasion. I should
mention here that the only adult I've ever met who out-Tiggers me is Ger,
so that probably should be taken into consideration.

Subject: Best season?

I came in during the 2nd season (Stranger Than Fiction). I have to say
that I have found much to love in all 3 seasons. Ger was sexier looking
first season (IMO) and I liked 1st seasons clothing better. But the effects
(esp the flying) were really cheesy 1st season and tons better 2nd season.
There were great stories in all seasons and a few groaners.Second season
had better Lacroix scenes and lines. 1st season had better Janette
scenes and lines (and I'm a sucker for all those little kisses 1st season
between Nick and Janette). I think Natalie got lost (and hasn't really been
found) in most of the 2nd season. Then again, 2nd season had Janette and
Lacroix background stories and Gillian Horvath scripts.I think 3rd season
has gotten closer to the naughty, vampire Nick (like 1st season) than 2nd
season did. But so far, this season has lacked any sign of real struggle
for Nick. It just doesn't feel like he wants to be mortal again. I have
found myself mostly disinterested in rewatching this seasons episodes and
in fact, have only watched all showings of a couple. I don't care for
Tracy. She does nothing for the main plot. I *miss* Schanke. Even in the
worse Schanke episodes, his presence was part of FK and Nick. Tracy is
a non-entity in Nick's life and Nick's life is what FK is supposed to be
about. His life and how those around him affect it. Tracy just doesn't
affect it. OTOH, Reese is my favorite of all 3 captains (sorry, but
Cohen stunk major league). I also find that, aside from Screed, I couldn't
care less about any of the new vampire characters.

All-in-all, I put first and second season as equals and think 3rd season
has lost a lot.

Schanke is not Tigger, though he probably could be persuaded to be Tigger
(or anyone else) at the behest of his little girl. ;-) I agree with
whoever said Schanke was Pooh. Though he is anything *but* a Bear of
Very Little Brain, the parenthetical note in my first Pooh post about
heads stuck in Hunny jars and failing to adequately observe Heffalumps
*could* be applied to "Close Call"...

I wonder if Principal Skinner would work? (Can't you picture him doing a

Nah...Ralph Wiggam could be Tracy, and Chief Wiggam could be promoted to
Commissioner...or maybe Martin could be Tracy.

Bart as Nick...he's not angsty, but he IS rebellious.
Barney as Screed.

I'm having trouble casting the ladies...!

Any ideas?

That was my theory, and so far everything people have said about the season
they saw first and the season they like best seem to back it up.

I saw the second season first, but until recently had seen more of the
third season. Nick is very different in all three seasons. Even his wardrobe
- my word! When I finally saw the first season my jaw hit the floor - jeans,
leather jackets... *swoon*.

Jamie also said that for her,

I'd be hard pressed to choose. I think I'd have to pick my favourites from
each season. I feel more 'comfortable' watching the second season, but then
I think that is only because I saw it first. I do like the third season
because Nick has been getting close to his vampire nature again, and I think
that's a *good* thing!! (I *like* being a Dark Knightie!)

Okay, so which season would *you* pick for the desert island?

The theory falls down a bit with me, because I have been a fan of the
"Forever Knight" since the first season - since "Dark Knight" in fact - but
I'm a FoD. (As I recall the original poster remarked that FoDs and Cousins
were more likely to have first seen the series during the second season.)

However, I didn't become a FoD until seeing "Hunters" - which I gather was
the episode which converted more than one of us with FoDly tendencies!

Well I wasn't as an avid watcher of the first season (one of my few regrets)
back then, but I remember the "badge scene" and personally it didn't
bother me. I remember when my brother came home and first saw the show
he actually laughed at the part. And he is even more uptight than I am!
I don't think it takes away from the story that much. How much attention
can you get from that one instant?

As for the question about CBS attempt to spice things up... CBS doesn't
have anything to do with it. "Crimetime After Primetime" was a collection
of detective shows, period. Along with it you got WiseGuy and Night Heat
(never could stand that show), and scenes like what you described did
not proliferate those shows either.

One thing you are right though... it has been my observation, that the first
seasons episodes seemed to hint more about flesh than the current episodes.

>Now, don't take this as a flame, but a lot of people seem to be putting the

Well first season was new and a bit more exciting than the current episodes.
Look at the dialog between Nick and Schanke during the first season.
Their conversations took on a tone of more man-to-man... something you
can't do with Tracy. The chemistry between Nick/Schanke just isn't the
same with Tracy. In addition to this, time has passed and the fire
has died down a bit.

Tuesdays at 10?!?! When the rest of the country is watching NYPD Blue?
Like, *last night*, when I specifically checked the TV schedule, and it
said that they were showing two consecutive episodes of Silk Stalkings?
Does this mean I missed this week's rerun? Does this mean there won't be
a rerun Friday morning? Does this give us any hope that USA might
someday be sensible enough to give the world a HL/FK block every evening?
That's what I'm changing my letters to, btw. "I've heard that you now own
