I'm sorry, I have to take off for a while. Exams start Friday at my school,
and I'm going no-mail until they're over. I love you all, so I'll definately

find out who the mysterious wanna-be buyer was, yatta yatta yatta...).

Fear not, the Toreador Clan would be the Kindred equivelant of Ravens; one
hopes they have a Toreador half as wonderful as Janette. Screed would be
the FK version of a Nosferatu; Vachon a Brujah <rebllious youth>, maybe
Gangrel <born to the wilderness; for an undead, in tune with nature>. Uncle
is a fine example of Ventrue, the nobility and Nick... hmmm, the boy does
cause trouble; of Ventrue stock with Toreador sibling and Brujah
rebelliousness. Nick could be striving to be a Caitiff <a vampire with no
clan and thus, second class denizen of the night><g> ...or maybe a
Malkavian, <insane, but *fun*!> given to extreme amounts of angst and
blackouts while driving. <g>
You'll also likely see concepts that will be familiar; The Enforcer
equivelant would be called Justicars and what Nick might be seeking is
called Golconda. An incredibly rare state where the vampire no longer needs
blood to survive.
The Kindred has the potential to be good. As good as FK? The worst FK
episodes, <your choices may vary>, are pretty good vampire TV. Kindred will
have to be damn good to equal the stories and character development FK has done.

I was watching my son's muppet tresure island (bad spelling I know) sing
along tape, and there was a girl muppet singing about how she likes to be
a pirate. and it's okay for a girl to be a pirate.
which made me think,
what's wrong with a woman being a knight? WHy do we have to have a
seperate name? I thought one of the resons there was a woman's movement
was so that their wouldn't be 'cute' names for a woman doing what use to
be a 'man's' job.
woman are no longer called authoresses, or post mistresses, or aviatrix,
or other demeaning names.
If I want to be a knight, I'll be one.

Sorry to be a nitpicker here, but I have to clear up a technical
point. While I have no doubt that a nuclear bomb would destroy any
vampire at or near Ground Zero through heat if not through explosive
force, what is going on in a nuclear explosion is *not* what is going on
inside stars. Nuclear weapons use dense elements and split their atomic
nuclei -- that's nuclear fission. It's very messy and leaves lots of
radioactive waste that sits around for a very long time. Stars, on the
other hand, use very light elements and fuse their nuclei together --
that's nuclear fusion. It's not quite as messy as fission -- it doesn't
leave radioactive waste behind (although some forms of fusion can, in the
process of fusion itself, be radioactive).
It's a technical point and kind of out of place here...
ObFK: Do we know what happens in the FK universe if vampires don't
get blood for a long time? That is, is it possible for vampires to
"starve" to death, or do they enter a coma, or are they just subject to a
lot of pain until lunch comes along?

Keep in mind, y'all, that this is the Forever Knight mailing list: the
topic here is FK, not vampires in general, not other vampire shows, not
vampire gaming. There are other lists for those.
So, basically, if you wanna talk about how awful it is that this Kindred
show is a second-rate rip-off of FK, that's fine. But if you wanna dissect
the general bad-ness of Kindred all by itself, it's got to happen
elsewhere. <g> Same thing with the whole vampire-clan bit. Once it goes
past the discussion of what-clans-would-be-appropriate for FK characters,
it's off-topic.
Just a clarification for those new to the list, and a reminder for the rest
of us. No big deal. I mean, things are okay now, but we just keep
skirting the edge of off-topic-ness...

I've been told that for some reason, the Malkavians and Tremere will
not be part of the show's Camarilla. Can anyone verify/deny this rumor?
Of course, I have to admit that I watch Forever Knight partly
because of the differences between it and White Wolf's system. Not only
that, it's pretty good (and often exceptional) vampire television, and
excellent television is rare with any subject matter. I believe it was
Groucho Marx who said, "Television is called a medium because it is
neither rare nor well done." But character interaction the like of which
I've seen on this show is a welcome respite from drivel like -- oh, I
don't know -- "Full House"?
Wouldn't it be a cruel joke if some cousin decided to bring across
the Ashley twins... <shudder>

Well according to the show, March is wrong. I think it was a first season
ep called "Partners" where an old partner of Schanke's gets killed and then
run a check on Nick's old cases. When they only find stuff from his time at
that station, Nick enlists the help of Larry Merlin to fix everything up.
At the end of the ep, they ask him when his birthday is, he says January
first 1959 and they say '58 and he says, "you know, that's always been a
problem for me" and grins to himself abd walks off.
I haven't watched the ep in 2 years, so the year may be off, and i'm sure
that someone else may remember.

That's about as close as we can get unless in the canadian version they

We weren't given an age for Nat in I Will Repay, which is the episode
in which her brother was brought across.
What we did have, in 1992 when Only the Lonely was first broadcast, was
a birthday party for Nat, at which she was 30 years of age. Nat: (Counting
candles) Yep, 30. They're all there." That makes her born in 1962.
This was in both the US and Canadian versions.
As I said before, her birthday must be in June. The calendar on the
wall behind her in that episode says either Jan or Jun. Since the
Nat and Roger go to the park and it's clearly high summer, Nat must
have been born in June.

The Geminis air Sunday night, March 3, although there's two nights before
that when awards are given out but they're not telecast. Nigel's and
Deb's awards (the ones they're nominated for, I mean) will be given out
March 2. Deb said she probably won't attend, but Nigel said he'll be at
both the Saturday (untelevised) and Sunday (televised) award nights. I
haven't checked, but they probably start around 8 p.m.
Have no idea when that will be on satellite, but they're live awards so I
assume it would be the same time it's telecast here.

know that there's a whole faction out there somewhere for her cat, who
must live *somewhere*, so is it just a bizarre, conspiratorial
coincidence that *I* have yet to see her home? Was the set sacrificed to

characters have just been too wrapped up in being vampires and

Actually, if you say Janette is a Toreador, then so too must be LC and
Nick, since you take on the clan of your sire (and Janette's is LC).
They may be some offshoot of Toreadors (since they can fly), but they
should *all* be Toreadors. I've come to think that LC must be an outcast
Toreador (he *can* play the rebec, so his talent is musical). Janette
is most definitely the "fashionable" type of Toreador and Nick has
certainly shown Toreador traits with his painting and piano playing
(not to mention his ability to become "distracted" by flashbacks for
several minutes at a time :) ). They're all so old that LC could have
picked up some non-Toreador disciplines along the way, which he then
taught to his children. Nick, of course, wants to chuck it all so he
wants to be Caitiff (at least). :)

In the second episode of first season (Dark Knight: the Second Chapter),
Nick goes without blood for a while, then fights LC and "kills" him,
and then apparently goes unconscious from the lack of food since in the
tag, we find out that Nat gave Nick a transfusion of Schanke's blood to
"revive" him. She says he would have starved to death. But then later
in the series, she wants him to give up blood as a way of coming back
across (?). Of course she was trying to make blood substitutes for him
too and it's possible that she had gathered enough data to make her
think that he could survive on some substitute for the blood.
But when he tried to give up the blood "cold turkey" in first season's
Feeding the Beast, he fell off the wagon big time and wound up in the
Raven drinking what Janette had bottled and contemplating munching on
a "live" meal. From that we might be able to assume that there is a
point at which the urge for blood can overcome reason and restraint
unless the vampire exercises (or tries to exercise) a great deal of
control.
In the first instance, Nick might have gone unconscious due to
exhaustion (after fighting) rather than just the lack of food. While
emotional disappointment intially led him to the Raven in Feeding the
Beast, I think there must be a point where the need for blood makes
itself felt and the vampire must satisfy it (normal vampires anyway).
A vampire wounded to incapcitation might starve without blood perhaps.

Subject: Flashback Question
I'm doing a project in Costume Design in which I am analyzing the costumes of
the Baroque-English Cavalier peiod from 1620-1660. I know Nick, et al were
most certainly around in that period, and I was wondering if anyone knows any
third season episodes whose flashbacks show Nick or LaCroix in period costumes
or, if not them... others.
I think SoB took place at the end of the Elizabethan period which was just
prior to the English Cavalier. Anyone know of any 3rd season flashbacks that
were just a decade or so later than that?
I say 3rd season because that's all I have and I was going to show the actual
scenes to my costume class (who knows? I might bring some of them across)
