Aaack! Visions of "FK: The Next Generation"! I see it now... in twenty
years, (mortal)Nick and Nat's oldest son will be brought across by an
evil vampire who quickly gets staked... in rage and grief, Nick pulls a
(oops; could only say this name on fkspoilr) and guides his son as he
re-initiates his quest... Golly, I hope I'm kidding.

Can anything be worse? How about "Crazy Love"? Yuk. I *love* "Baby Baby"!
Didn't mind "Blind Faith" either. (Has anyone else noticed that there are 3
shows - maybe more - containing episodes with that title - QL, Highlander and
FK. I also get the HL list, and it gets a tad confusing at times!) But anyway,
I think that this is what is so great about this show - it caters to people of
all tastes.

This also got me thinking about something else... I wonder if the first
episodes a person sees colour how they see the rest of FK? (I was going to
make a remark about carouches, but I'm not sure if "Fever" is still covered
by spoiler rules.) The first episode I saw was "Father's Day" - in which
Uncle was (mostly) nice, so I have always liked Uncle. "Amateur Night" was
the second, and I always thought Schanke was a good cop! "Baby Baby" was the
fourth episode I saw, the first episode in which I saw Nick bite someone,
and also the first episode I ever read list discussion and spoilers about (not
to mention the love scene), so I suppose all that has coloured how I saw the
episode, but I have watched it so much I can quote chunks of dialogue from
memory! I have since seen the first season, the third up to SoB, and a lot
of the second, but I still like Uncle, never changed my opinion of Schanke
(good cop that he was, I miss him) and still like it when Nick bites people!

us.

Ger in his chat left the door open for movies - killing off the characters
doesn't fit the bill. In fact I remember him saying that he does not want to
leave it where they would have to do a Bobby in dallas shower scene to bring
back the characters.

I am sure everyone was told to be hush hush and that is what they are doing.

I've been e-mailing some folks privately. I'm on another couple of lists at

Hi, Laurie! I'm contradicting you. <g>

When we were at NATPE, we were instructed to make sure, when asking for
people to ask for FK, to ask for a *fourth* season of FK. How's *that*
for a confusing sentence? <g>

Okay, let's try again, just for kicks. Our understanding was that
TriStar *was* offering previous seasons for reruns, and so we were
afraid that if we just told the people we talked to to buy FK, they
would just get the previous seasons. Not a bad thing, but not precisely
the goal we had in mind. :) So in our rehearsed little lines, we made
sure to say to ask for a fourth season of FK, so hopefully there
wouldn't be any confusion.

I never actually found out first-hand what was being sold, but this is my
understanding from Our Fearless Leader, Diane. :)

CD was described as a truly freaky malevolent witch (this is not an attack

I'm combining this into two posts to save everybody space.

Laurie, quoting, regarding USA and syndicators 'stripping' FK:
>> I thought that seasons two and three were being offered at NATPE?
>
>As far as I know, NO FK rights were offered at this year's NATPE. If
>anyone has heard differently, please feel free to contradict me.

Sorry, but I was informed, by somebody (nameless for job security reasons, but
reliable) who had access to the NATPE programming book, that TriStar listed
seasons 2 & 3 as for sale. Whether they actually sold them is, of course, an
entirely different story! :)

Vicki, on FK pulling a six in the Nielsens:
>> from, but according to someone associated with the show, FK got a 6
>> rating recently.
>
>How much faith do you have in this info?

Not to be a wet blanket, but in *some* time slots, FK has always pulled a 6
rating! It's just that for every 6 it pulls in (quick, consult my NAPTE
brochure!) say, Orlando, FL among women 18-34, it pulls a 1.2 in Somewhere,
USA (because Orlando airs it at Sunday, midnight, and promotes it, and
Somewhere airs it at 3:43am Monday-- when it doesn't pre-empt.)

So FK can pull a 6 in LOCAL Neilsens, and still suck in the overall ratings.

I suspect that's what your contact got hold of-- a good, local Nielsen rating.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I think that's the most likely explanation. I'd
be delighted to be proved wrong.....

Subject: Re: "Last Knight" Being Treated Like Dirt (LONG)

To those cast/crew/production members who are on this list, I have a question
that I want to post to the whole list coz everyone is getting real bummed out
about this "Last Knight" episode. Do you have any idea why, knowing obviously
how much fans care they would, on purpose, devise an episode which appears (and
I admit it's just thru hearsay) capable of doing nothing more than hurting every
FK fan out there. Why would everyone agree to do such a thing? It just doesn't
really make much sense.

It's different than with B7, I don't think there was any kind of save B7 drive
out there, and definitely there was no money, time, effort, etc. expended as it
was with this show. It appears to show that even though in the face of the fact
that we really knew the show probably wouldn't survive, the bottom line is the
bottom line after all and it is a business, but why do it with such a nastiness,
such a "Well, not only are you NOT going to get your show back because you all
are such pains in the ass, but we're gonna do our best to destroy your show and
leave a nasty taste in your mouth!!" I know in the face of the real world this
is really nothing more than a television show, but obviously it does mean a lot
to a lot of people (myself included) who need an escape from the real world, and
to have it treated so badly is a major slap in our faces. Everyone got into
this knowing we could possibly lose, but hoping they would treat us with enough
respect that if they did close out the show, they would do it with dignity and
not the way it seems to be going.

Then it is true, even to you people who called us into this war (and yes I do
mean you Mr. Parriott) have just said to us "Oh well, too bad. You guys really
just don't count." Well, you might destroy it on film, but there are so many
talented people on this list who will not let the original idea of the show die
and will continue to write great fiction and keep the characters alive the way
they were first presented to us. No, I don't think we're crazy, after all, you
sold us the show in the first play and made it different and special in order to
gain a following. Now that it has one, you take it away and then not only take
it away, you destroy it in front of us first. That's sort of like a drug pusher
getting us addicted then taking away the drug. No one expects a show to last
forever, but we do expect to be treated with some kind of dignity - not trashed
on.

Sorry this is so long, but I had to get it out.

Subject: Nick Knight disc in LA

Just in case anyone in and around LA needs a copy and hasn't been able to
find one - beginning today and continuing tomorrow is a laserdisc
sale/promotional doohickey on the Paramount Studios lot. It's free, starts
at 10 a.m. both days, there are free giveaways (Apollo 13 tote bags, Snow
White books, Pocahantas & Lion King Clocks, Dances w/Wolves CD, etc), and
some celebrities (Robert Wise tomorrow, Gena Rowlands and Clive Barker - WA!
Didn't get to see him!! - today) plus discs marked way down.

There were about 20 NKs for $9 and an equal number for $15, though i think
there were more hidden away for periodic re-stockings (the prices are
different 'cause the discs are from different inventories, quality is the
same - just one set is hole-punched and the other not)

i'd suggest getting there a couple of hours early unless you don't mind
waiting in line all day.

I'm a third-season newbie who just saw Trophy Girl for the first time last
Thursday night/Friday morning/whatever, and I'm still in a swivet. I
absolutely *loved* this episode! It was a wonderful dose of Vachon, which
was helpful since I've been dying slowly of withdrawl. It was full of
light-hearted interactions among the characters, which aren't present in
many third-season eps. It was well populated with good guest acting. The
Nick/LaCroix interaction during the flashback was incredible (here I am, an
alleged grownup, and I was sitting with my eyes covered, peeking between my
fingers). I was alternately laughing out loud and screeching out loud so
much that my husband came downstairs to see if I was having a seizure or
something. And I was actually jumping up and down on my chair at the
ending. Just so you all know, I do *not* usually behave this way--I'm
usually rather restrained, especially if I think anyone might be watching
me.

So count me among the third-season ignorants if you want, but to me this ep
held lots of examples of what I really love about this show. I'm even going
to make my husband watch it (under duress, if necessary).

Sorry, Janette!

I agree, it did suck. And I also agree that Human Factor sucked, because of

Faith, I'd have to say Blind Faith wins... easy. Outside The Lines, I still
think sucked, every time I watch it I feel like gaging. And Trophy Girl had
it's good scenes, Nick and the psycho in jail, but I thought that everything
outside of those scenes was pathetic.

Actually, I also just saw this on this week, and I DID like it. A lot. I

Haven't seen this one yet either. Hmmm ... I'm noticing a pattern here.
We seem to have a large portion of people who joined the list AFTER things
started looking bleak. I'm sure there's a psychological thing there...

Too much Vachon, too little Nick, IMO, but I suppose it had to happen sometime.

Now, two weeks ago, i would have said the same thing. Then the one who
brought me across sent me most of season 1 and the eps surrounding Be My
Valentine and I UNDERSTAND why people say it went downhill. I MISS
SCHANKE! (Sorry, had to get that off my chest.)

I mean, I understand the reasoning, up to a point. The original thrust of
the show was the "differentness" of Nick because he's a vampire, and this
was focused against his relationship with Nat. By the third season,
however, they had pretty much played that out. With the whole new audience
they were hoping to get when it moved over to USA, they needed an excuse to
have somebody ask all those questions that Tracy asks Vachon but Nat would
have no reason to ask Nick because she's know him for three years already.

Now, I am NOT condoning getting rid of the three that they did. And
frankly, if they were going for sexy, getting rid of Deborah Duchene? And
bringing in Blu Mankuma (Reese)? EXCUSE ME?!?

Tell you what _I_ would have done. I would have replaced Cohen if somebody
had to go and had some reason to bring in Tracy -- maybe as a trainee, if
not the new captain, since that would be REALLY stretching -- and had her
meet Vachon. Or kept Schanke and had him find out about Nick and had Tracy
stay ignorant to keep the ignorance jokes.

Sigh.

Recently, I posted a rather long tirade (sorry about the length but it just had
to come out) about what seems to be the disgusting way they're planning to end
FK. I do not wish to leave it on such a downer, I will fight till there's no
fight left in me - if only because I dislike being treated like I'm not worth
listening to and my feelings don't matter at all.

But, I don't want the air here to get to sad, we will always have FK no matter
what it does, and we will have each other on this list. And, I am really excited
at the opportunity to meet a lot of you at Ger's play. So, they may take our
show away, but what it created they can't take away which is this list, the
friendships and the opportunity to use the talent that so many of you have shown
here. Kewl. That's exciting!

Now, as a true Knightie, although we don't want to start anything we have to
always be on our guard and that nasty word WAR keeps popping up. Gotta watch
our backs guys (and our fronts, and our sides, etc......)

belongs on the spoiler list, not this one.

Some of us aren't on the spoiler list any more precisely to avoid the
drivel that's littering the lists now about these as yet unseen episodes.

Even if you're replying to someone, make sure you post to the proper
list, okay?

Thanks.

Subject: Relationships

OK, I am a little confused (big surprise!): What is the relationship
between a "matser" and "fledgling?"

Though that question doesn't really address what I want to know;
basically I am wondering what "type" of relationship Nick and Nat would
have if he brought her accross. Would it be like his and LC's? Very
parental? Sort of protective? Could it be romantic? Or would it be too
unequal a situation?

I mean, Janette was older than Nick, but she didn't have any sort of
authority (in an emotional sense) over him (not in the same way LC does);
so I am just wondering, no matter the circumstances under which Nick
brought Nat accross, wouldn't their relationship evolve into a
father/daughter type thing?

Just curious...and I need a break from SOS depression.

Subject: About PAF

I found the following in "Art & Understanding: The International Magazine
of Literature and Art About AIDS", Dec/Jan 1996 issue, page 8:

(part of an article "The Year in Review" by Glenn Gaylord)

..."Surely, the death of Elizabeth Glaser, although it happened
in late 1994, sent shockwaves that carried into the new year. One of
the founders of the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Elizabeth attained national
prominence by speaking so eloquently at the 1992 Democratic National
Convention. A strong activist, Elizabeth brought much-needed attention
to the subject of mother-to-child HIV transmission and child-specific
issues. She bravely battled her own illness while suffering the loss of
her daughter and caring for her HIV-infected son....Her guts, her drive,
and her class set the tone for how we all should face 1995 and beyond."

The above quote makes me feel even more proud of us all for raising over
$8000 for PAF, and even more happy to be a part of the FK community. I'm
an old-timer on this list and I sure plan to stick around even if FK is
"cancelled"!

Could anyone confirm that CD is in this episode of Friday 13th?

I only get one episode a week of this show and we're at the season one
poison pipe one. The coven episode won't be until the end of season two
(26 episodes to go) and I don't want to keep an eye out for the episode
unless she's really there. (Sorry, lazy person taping 8 shows a week wants
the occassional week off :-> )

Well, I'm glad that you love the third season... but have you seen the
first 2 seasons???!!!! I'm sorry if you, or anyone else, disagrees with me
but most of the beginning episodes of this season made me want to cry!!! I
spent hours after seeing episodes like Trophy Girl, Outside the Lines, Let No
Man Tear Asunder, and other Silk-Stalkings type episodes watching the 1st 2
seasons trying to make myself feel better!!! But I do agree Fever was an
awesome episode, and one of the best of any season. However I still think
that the first 2 seasons were a hell of a lot better! And not just because
of Janette. Not even Fever could top episodes like Be My Valentine, Stranger
Than Fiction, or Crazy Love. (IMHO, anyway)

Any show can be resurrected if they want to do it and the actors are available.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with this statement. It is one of the things
that attracted me to cousinship in the first place. Nick is always in
denial... he lives there... Uncle on the other hand is brutally honest - and
that I prefer. Uncle is very down to earth and accepts what he is and does
not try to make himself into that which he is not. Nick is constantly
trying to become what he is not - either mortal or moral. Vampires do not
share the same morals as mortals do, they do not share the same rules, food,
etc. There are certain vampire rules that they do follow - to a point, but
then again what mortal follows all the rules??

I'll take cousinship any day of the year and twice on Sundays.

Eagerly awaiting participation in War#7.
