Subject: Crane Questions / Staying on the Lists

I still have some questions (oh, no!) about the crane thing:

When is the deadline to send the cranes to the regional
coordinators? We *do* have some kind of deadline, don't
we? In the next few weeks, months, what?

And for clarification, the Official Paper Size of the Forever
Knight Wishing Cranes Project <tm> is 3 inches (7 or 8 cm),
yes? So what should I do with the 7 inch ones I already
made? Seems like such a waste to just throw them away. :(
Not to mention that I actually accomplished something at
work, making these! That is, besides typing proposals &
letters for Bidnessmen Who Cain't Spail....

Also, is anyone going to post the crane info on Prodigy? If
not, then I volunteer to do so; however, I need some input
as to what to say. (Please contact me via private email
regarding the Prodigy info, as I'm on digest.)

On another subject entirely--yes, I would stay on the psuvm
lists if the show were cancelled. I have had too much fun
reading all the things, fluffy & serious, that everyone has
written. I only wish I had signed on months ago.

Thanks again!

(A) Letter from a Syndie & FK on USA Next Fall

Below is the complete text of a letter I received today from my local
syndication station, WKYW-TV 3 in Philadelphia, PA. (I guess now we know
they called Columbia/TriStar...)

---------------------
  February 21, 1996

  Dear Ms. Percy,

Thank you for your interest in "Forever Knight." We appreciate
your ongoing support of this unique program.

However, the program's distributor, Columbia Television, has
advised us that effective in the fall of this year Forever Knight
will be seen exclusively on the USA Cable Network. KYW-TV will
continue to air the series until that time.

Thank you again for your thoughts.

  Sincerely,

  Naomi Adams
  Program Coordinator

I hate to ask, but does this mean just rebroadcasting rights? Does
someone have more details?

(B) The Shrewthering

The coordination of the trip to see Ger's performance in "Taming of the
Shrew" at the end of April will soon move over to the DEBSPLAY list. This
list was created a while ago for the folks who went up to see Deborah
Duchene's play last weekend. We're giving them until Monday to chit-chat
about how much fun they had up there and then we're invading the list.<eg>
Stay tuned for info on how to subscribe to that list.

Until then, to get a copy of the latest Shrew update with ticket info and
some ideas about hotels & such, e-mail me off-list with the word SHREW in
the subject line of your message. It helps if you tell me what city &
state/province you're coming from so I can put you on the carpool list or
so you can coordinate flights, etc., with others from your region.

(C) Staying on the list

This seems to be a hot topic lately. Will I stay on this list? What,
lose out on friendships, list wars, fanfic, top ten lists, trips to see
plays, etc. just because someone is trying to kill my favorite show? Not
hardly. Hmmph.

(D) Knighties Forever!

Finally, regarding Knighties identifying themselves: Since something like
44% of the people who answered Bea's last questionnaire on the list were
Knighties (an overwhelming plurality, if I recall), I always assumed that
Knightie was the default faction. Of *course* everyone prefers Nick --
who wouldn't love the guy? (Biased opinion, I know...)

Either Knighties outnumber the rest of you but remain a largely quiet
group (with a few notable exceptions like myself!), or Knighties are just
more civic-minded when it comes to answering questionnaires, so that they
are disproportionately represented in survey responses. Or we secretly
organized ourselves to bias the survey statistics in our favor. ;^)

I think other Knighties would be more vocal about their faction, but
they're busy brooding. >:-| <----brooding smiley

And the Knightie designation has been proudly displayed somewhere in *my*
signature file (through its many iterations) since I was promoted from
Knightie-in-Training during War 5. :^)

Subject: Re: Overanalysing the 3rd season

Dear list subscribers:

I've only been watching FK for 2 months now and I love the 3rd season. It's
the only season I have seen. Maybe one of these days
I'll get a chance to watch some of the previous 2 seasons, but as
for now 3rd season is all I know and LOVE!

I almost got analysed out of liking it before I subscribed to this list.
Reading episode criticism on the wed page made it seem less *real* to me,
and I do so enjoy FK as being *real*.

It took me a couple of weeks to understand that I have to take the series as
it is, as it is portrayed to be. Don't we go around everyday saying to
ourselves "I should have done this, " or "I should have done it that way."

To me, it makes things more real if everything doesn't seem contrived and
turns out exactly as you would expect it to. That's one thing I like about
FK - the characters don't do everything I expect them to and the plot
doesn't turn out just like I expect it to. What's the use watching if you
know what's going to happen in advance?

(did I just say that? I've watched GVP 8 times alone and I know how it was
going to end after the first time I watched It.)

Anyway, this newbie likes FK and wants It to last Forever.

Here's a YKYBWTMFKW:

I work the night shift as a nurse and have to chart in the wee hours of the
morning, which isn't condusive to being awake and knowing what you're doing.
Anyway I was writing "slept through the night"
only when I reread my charting I realized I wrote 'Knight'.

Are those exclusive rights? And might this mean that we'll have to be
grateful to USA somewhere down the line
for bringing across so many new fans through the reruns that
we'll eventually get our fourth season? Eeeww... (doing my best Tracy
nose-wrinkling impression)

Might it also mean that syndies <won't> be airing FK reruns? I'm confused, I
guess (happens all the time...); I thought that seasons two and three were
being offered at NATPE? The show would get so much more exposure through
reruns on syndicated stations than on either USA or Sci-Fi Channel, so I hope
USA doesn't own and/or choose to air those eps exclusively

This comes from a second season ep whose name escapes me. This
was only one of the two historical howlers in that ep, incidentally --
World War Two seemed to have changed dates in the mind of that writer, as
well. Anyway, the Hastings bit:

Nick went to see Aristotle, who is a vampire who is apparently in
charge of creating new identities for vampires who need to move on.
Aristotle is very, very good at this -- Schanke, investigating an
identity that Nick (and the viewer) knows is one of Aristotle's
"legends," says the woman's life is so well documented he can tell Nick
how many boxes of cookies she sold when she was a Girl Guide.
In the ep's flashback, we see Nick asking Aristotle to create a
false identity for a mortal, which Aristotle instantly refuses to do,
pointing out that this is absolutely against the rules. Nick says, "you
still owe me for the Battle of Hastings."

In my living room at least, there were two howls of outrage in the
next moment. Nick was roughly 140 years away from his mortal birth in 1066.

Was this the real Aristotle? And what happened to Larry Merlin?
Ah, the myth of continuity....

does anybody have a suggestion for music for the commercial that isn't

As it stands now, as pointed out by several people privately, even though
no one is out-right giving up, there seems to be a need for some
coordination in terms of our more long-term SOS goals. Kira and I will
still do the commercial, and thanks to everyone who has contributed, but
is there a general consensus as to *when* we should run it? And more
generally do we have any planned mode of attack?

Just wondering...as usual questions, suggestions, warnings, e-mail me

It's simple. The female Knighties are Damosels. :) Slightly better
than Dames (which always brings Raymond Chandler references to mind for ME)
yet still not as wimpy as Ladies. Unless you really WANT to be Ladies of
the (K)Night. Also, see Vera Chapman's THE KING'S DAMOSEL for a good book
on Lynnette, the woman in the Gareth Beaumains and the Red Knight story.

Mercs do whatever they want with their names - since so many of us have
such divided, no, diced-and-spliced loyalties, we tend to be quite
individualistic in our noms de guerre. (We also don't have a leader at the
moment, since Jen's term of office expired and Maureen was kidnapped by the
Natpackers, brainwashed, and told to sell flowers at the airport. :))

This is one of the few wars where it really doesn't matter if you
win or lose... it's how you play the game. Just know what you want going
in: revenge. Fun. To meet Nick Knight. Souvenirs. To embarass Lacroix. To
meet your list-friends and go shopping with them. Mounties. Chocolate.
Alcohol. Photos. :)

Off to coordinate some bloodbaths...

WRONG! Every Vampire book I've read names the Prince of S.F. as Vannevar
Thomas. Geez, first they take the Malks and the Tremere out of the
Camarilla, and now this. What's next, vampyres and werewolves are fast
friends?!?!?!?!?!?

The article does mention the usual

Nah, totally different system, and while FK based a following upon what it
is itself, Kindred is a variation of an immensely popular (and phenomenally
cool) RPG. The changes are going to sorely p*ss a lot of people off (they
did when I heard of them a few months ago, especially about the Malkies).
It will probably become popular with those who don't know much about the
game, and some fanatically die-hard fans (no pun intended), but the changes
will take time to get used to.

However, I can't wait to run a game for someone who only knows five clans

Subject: Hello? Anyone out there?

I have received a total of four FK related posts today -- this is the fewest
I have *ever* received since joining this list. What is up with you guys
today? Too tired from writing letters to TPTB? Fingers too sore from
folding origami cranes? Too pooped and jet lagged after Toronto?

I hope y'all aren't depressed because yesterday was the last day of filming.
Just think of this as the vacation we have all been saying they deserve.
Even vampires need some time on a beach once in a while. Don't worry,
they'll be back -- *we* *will* make sure of it.

So now I have a YKYB that I am just dying to tell anyone who doesn't already
think that I am completely and irretrievably insane.

Okay, You Know You've Been On FORKNI-L Too Long when you dream that your
e-mail is now being received by your alarm clock; my alarm went off every
time I received a new post. I got more posts on my alarm clock than I did
on my computer today. Oh, and thanks to Cyn, Apache, Cousin Tippi, and
Susan Garrett for their early morning posts to my clock; I promise that I
will try to *dream* my replies tonight. <:-)

Oh, and I have a question: LC is dead during the first season. In what ep
does he return and what explanation is given for his resurrection?

Tiger Lily (bonnie@o.......)

But I *like* this new wrinkle in my reality.

Someone recently wrote that the actress in "Blind Faith" really had MS. I
forwarded this message to an off-list friend, who happens to have worked
with MS patients. She really appreciated the information, and she would
like to know how she could write a letter to this actress. Can anyone help
us out?

Personally, I've always leaned strongly towards "All I Ask of You," from "The

Nick's words are in Christine's lyrics, and Nat's in Raoul's.

Grrrr... This show is so ... I can't even talk about it. I did a full

here. If you want the full info, just follow the bouncing URL.

I don't think they ever explained what happened to Stonetree. He probably
was transferred or something.
