I joined the list at the end of the last war I think. This killed me. I actually laughed out loud in the computer cluster, which I normally only do at home. These visions of Nat with her chocolate smeared body paint and Vachon with his cow suits... :-) :-) Actually, wars aren't nearly so sexual (unless you get locked in a wine celler with LC, huh Sandra?) This has probably been answered, but, briefly, wars are fictional round robin things where we each play ourselves (perhaps slightly idealized versions of ourselves, but _definitely_ ourselves). Then we cause trouble for other factions (even the Knighties cause trouble, and the Nat-packers were the _start_ of the last war). It is a duel, lunge, defend, counter... etc. etc. all really in good fun. You shouldn't take anything _too_ seriously. I think it was Susan Garrett who said "In a War, an attack is the most sincere gesture of affection" or something like that. However, there is also a LOT of organization that goes on behind the scenes in e-mail so that the posts won't contradict each other. You need to work within a framework of sorts. The framework is extremely loose, but it does exist and needs to be adhered to. The best fun is trying to sort out posts that were all posted within a few minutes of each other. Despite apparent contradictions, we can work these things out. It is a lot of work, but great fun. I will probably have to skip the next war due to real time constraints and will definitely miss it. > Does the war take place on the FKFIC list? Will martial arts come in handy? > How about marital arts? Inquiring minds and all that jazz. If you know martial arts in real life, you can use them in the War, but you shouldn't really make yourself a black belt if you've never had a course in it. You could, arguably, boost yourself from being a brown or red belt to a black belt, though. |---- Vicki Merriman - vmerrima@i....... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 12:28:22 -0500 From: vicki jean merriman <vmerrima@i.......> Subject: Re: How Many Will Stay On? The only reason LC got the Raven back in the last war was because we always clean up after ourselves like the Cat in the Hat. The FK universe has to be left in the same condition that we found it in in the start of the War. So, e.g. Tracy can't find out that Nick is a vampire in the War, or if she did, she would somehow have to forget that information by the end of the War. Also, as I recall, Cerk got pretty badly damaged by the Mercs. I'm not really sure who won the last War. It is n't a matter of winning or losing; it all degenerates into a party somewhere. King Cakes sent I've gone to nomail to catch up with over 5000k of messages, so please e-me privately. Does anyone know NB's birthday (including year)? A friend is interested in astrology and fell for Nigel at CCCX. I've been feeding her need for info about FK and NB, but have run into a block about his birthday. The info isn't in the FAQ and I e-mailed the prez of the NBFC (of which I'm a member) a month ago and haven't heard back. Also, the King Cakes went out Monday to James Parriott (the Toronto address), Ms. Onoyama in NY and one to my local Programming Director. I delivered the local one myself so that I could meet the Director (and she meet me so that she would know I wasn't some lunatic who kept bugging her). She was very nice - asked what I would do in reference to their station if Columbia cancelled the show. I told her I'd still watch the other shows they had (I listed all the shows I *regularly* watch in a letter to her). I think she was relieved that I wasn't going to bomb the building or some other such foolishness. She told me that her Columbia rep was still saying that they were going ahead with another season (guess that person is *way* outta' the loop). I wrote a summary of what had happened with the show so far and she was impressed that I knew so much. I don't think *she* knew what had been going on! E-me if you'd like the text of the letter (please put "SYNDIE LTR" in the subject). I'll let y'all know if/when I hear from JP or Sony. They are getting some YUMMY food!! Now I saw that in a different light. To me, it seemed that Nick wanted to open up to Nat about his "reawakened needs" and that Nat just didn't want to listen to him. Nick has been trying to do what is unnatural in most FK vampires--stay away from human blood and feeding on humans. Is it any wonder that that is going to be hard for him to do sometimes? As it was, he went to Janette and some *vampire* blood rather than endanger some hapless human. Nick had already been to see Janette once before this scene because he was "out of control". When he went to Janette a second time after this scene, he wasn't as out of control as before. If Nat had been willing to listen and try to understand what Nick was feeling, perhaps he wouldn't have gone back to Janette again at all. But Nat doesn't want to deal with the vampire Nick. She only wants to deal with the human Nick. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 11:41:39 -0700 From: Isis <isis@m.......> Subject: Re: Top Ten Lists Forever! >And the number one reason to be a Cousin... > >1. Boy the press never gets it right. Speaking of press I was startled and jealous that Vanguard got to actually TALK to Nigel for an interview . All I got was e-mail responses to questions for my interview with him. Hmmmpf. :( A Mc Iremi@a....... Sooo for the new friends on the list let me explain a important fact. The wars are just fun. Cherri and I are actually friends. ( was shocked to find out some of the people thought we were fighting for real). In the war the factions play wonderful jokes on each other and generally try to out do each other. Behind the scenes all the factions are working together to make the whole thing work. Everything is done with permission from the people involved...yes we had Cherri's permission to kidnap her...and Amy's permission to let Vachon hypnotize her into thinking she was Janette. In the end we all wind up at a party...get sloshed....flirt with the vamps of your choice....and try to stumble back home <g>. Yes I am rambling...but I don't want people to have the wrong idea. As for who wins.....well NOBODY! some will come out of it a little less damaged than others though <G>. As for the post saying that the wars are getting bigger...I agree and also think that we need to have a strong leader loop and good communication between the leaders and their faction members for this next one if we want to pull it off and stay sane. Ok I feel better now Torrey ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 1996 16:23:48 -0500 From: colin paddock <Claudius@n.......> Subject: Re: Possible Long-Term Outcome >5: a large enough budget to do thorough historical research (no more >"Battle of Hastings"). It was a tracy Vachon story where Tracy is going to go undercover to sign in an amateur night near a UT campus. Vachon is going to be the guitarist and she asks him to find a band. Can someone help me find part two? Thanks ever so. -- Vicki - vmerrima@i....... Nick "What are you doing here?" I understand the theory -- Cousins v. Knighties v. etc, etc. But I've also noticed a lot of cross affiliations. (ie: Knighties with Cousinly tendencies, Ravenettes who are also Cousins, Cousins who are also NatPackers) How does it all stay at least somewhat organized? And how do you avoid in-group fighting? Before someone tells me to go read the archives -- I have read some of them. I'm still curious. I'll go back and read some more. Or maybe I'll just stay quiet and watch. (Me? Stay quiet and watch? Hey, that's a new idea...) BTW, who is the leader/organizer for the Knighties, Natpackers, and/or Nick&NatPackers? Has that been decided?
