Subject: Nick and Mortality

"Alora C. Chistiakoff" <acc0924@i.......> posted on 2/19 about Nick and
Nat:
"... he seems unable to decide anymore if mortality is really what he wants.
But he won't call off the search and return to the fold; instead he (and by
virtue of that fact, she, as well) finds himself in perpetual limbo.---And I
think that makes her crazier
than anything else.<<

Exactly. Nat needs to dump Nick and get a real relationship! And Nick needs
to admit to himself what LC obviously knows and likely Nat, too, to her
dismay. Nick does *not* want to be mortal. In "Crazy Love" she said to
Nick, "Those are needs you don't have any more, right?" (okay, words to that
effect.) And he doesn't answer, in fact, he runs off to Janette as soon as
he can! I have another example, but it'd be a spoiler, I believe.

Admit it, Nick! You don't want to be mortal!

In fact, though I don't want any sort of closure in the last episode at all,
I'd love to see Nick finally accept himself for what he is and learn to be
happy with it.

Subject: Fred's CD Selections

Dottie R. wrote regarding the song "On the Dark Side..." or whatever the
title is:
>>Boy, I hope so. I've heard in the background since at the Raven and I just
loved it. Ofcourse, it also reminds me of the few times where the tag has a
happy Nick, pleased with himself for a change. (Not to mention that dream
sequence with the guitar and the black leather) man oh man!!<<

The song does not remind me of a happy Nick! On the contrary, this is the
song that Nick was having a daydream with where he is looking (through the
glass darkly? sorry!) in store windows at television sets showing scenes
from mortal life that exclude him (having children, eating, a love life).
This is one of my all time favorite scenes and my heart just melts for Nick
and his loneliness - and of course when Schanke directly after the song asks
Nick what he thinks it's like on the stage out there (for Rebecca) Nick
answers, "Lonely." (All right, all right, I'm a Knightie!!!) But it is a
beautiful, poignant song and one of my favorites! Fred mentioned that it and
three other Raven songs would be on the CD when we asked him in the AOL FK
chat last month.

Here's Fred's list of Raven songs on the CD (clipped from the chat):"DK SIDE
OF THE GLASS, BLACK ROSE, THE HUNGER and TOUCH THE NIGHT" Fred also said:
"The CD includes approx. 60 min. of score, the theme and 4 songs."
Apparently the FK theme will be the music without NB's voiceover intro.

More tidbits from Fred from the chat about his FK music: "My songwriting
partner Stan Meissner and I write all the songs for THE RAVEN. All vocals are
done by Lori Yates."

Oh, and there's one piece on the CD with GWD playing the piano, BTW! And I'm
VERY HAPPY that.... oh, sorry, that would be a spoiler. Just let me say that
it's nice that something from third season will be on the CD.

BTW, here's the web site where all of Fred Mollin's impressive credits are
listed. Check it out!

War 6 (the one we're fighting now, on FORKNI-L instead of FKFIC, and with
words far sharper than those we use for each other) is not going to end --
not ever -- not until and unless we Save Forever Knight.

Which means that technically, we might end up having War 7 occur *during*
War 6.

Other than that, as far as when that War 7 might be, don't ask me because I
dunno, I'm just the assistant listowner and that is not within my area of
authority.

But speaking from a purely personal pov, I think that the idea of having
FKFIC War 7 occurring within and beyond the SOSFK War 6 would be very very
complicated and strange and insane and probably incredibly fun.

I think I would also wind up having to be locked up in a rubber room with
bubblegum pink walls in a nice white coat with long sleeves, if I even
tried to survive through *that* one. :-)

You know, I was pondering this just the other day. It's almost religious.
We call priests Father John or Father William or what have you. We call
monks Brother Paul or Brother Bubba or what have you. Nuns are Sisters or
Mother Superiors. Quite ironic that those of us who are traditionally the
*wicked* ones have an association that is so *divine*. ;)

The Knights and Knighties wouldn't have such a hard time mustering up some
unity, if they called themselves Sir Such and Such or Lady Such and Such
(since there doesn't seem to be any female equivalent of knighthood). Of
course, it's still not quite as *devout* as what us Cousins have. ;)

Subject: Interview with NB -- opinions needed

OK, after a couple of weeks of phone tag with TPTB in the publicity
department, I managed to talk to Nigel Bennett about the end of the show,
his plans, etc. today (with all of 10 minutes notice (grrrrrr)). He was,
as expected, wonderful.

Here's what I need everyone's opinion on: He's given me permission to use
audio clips of the interview along with the text. Before I kill myself
digitizing them and making them sound good without taking 3 hours to
download, I'd like some idea if people:

a) Aren't interested in downloading clips
b) Would download one or two
c) Would probably want a decent percentage of them
d) Would take every bit I can get my browser on

I realize that it's hard to decide not knowing what he said, but I assure
you that he was great. (Keep in mind, though, this is his REAL voice,
which is just as well, because I don't think I could have handled 20
minutes on the phone with LaCroix.)

Please respond via private e-mail.

Sigh. Must sleep. Really must sleep.

Off to bed. (No, must transcribe!) No, must sleep. (No ...)

Well, "Dame" is the British equivalent of "Sir", although I don't really
think the female Knighties would care to be called "Dames." ;)

I've actually been wondering... *are* there more Cousins than anything
else? My AOL group (waving to the Fang Gang) is frighteningly overloaded

I passed on some info to this person.

If anyone else wants the ticket info, you can e-mail me and I'll forward
the details on the theater, prices, etc. If you decide to go and want to
get in on the carpool/hotel/group discounts/parties and such that are
hopefully being arranged, e-mail me with the word SHREW in the subject
line and join the fun. We have folks from across the continent who are
going to this event. Marcia alone has recruited two vans full. Some of
us have begun to call it The Shrewthering (since we have no idea when Ger
will have time for another Gerthering).

The performances are April 25, 26, and 27th. Individual tickets go on
sale March 18. I think *most* of us are leaning towards going to the
Saturday performance (the 27th) so that everyone has time to get there,
but I haven't done an official poll yet. Soon, I promise.

And no, I'm not in charge, I was just foolish enough to volunteer to
coordinate some carpools. Like everything in FK fandom, it snowballed,
and then got semi-organized. :^)

In an attempt to protect the innocent who are helping out on this Shrew
thing, I won't publish the whole list of everyone who's helping keep us
semi-organized. We have people checking into hotels, tickets,
restaurants, and carpools. Just e-mail me off-list with the word SHREW
in the subject line and I'll direct you to the right person.

And yes, it's true, lately my mailbox *has* started to look very
insulting with all those incoming messages that say SHREW!

I'll close with my signature of the day, dedicated to Susan Garrett who
apparently thinks Kipling is underappreciated these days, and to Jamie MR,
Queen of the Warm Fuzzies, who might have been the inspiration for this
stanza (Kipling got her gender wrong just like USA Networks!).

Subject: Top Ten Reasons why I'm Staying

Ok, I've seen all the top ten lists floating around and decided what the
heck, I'll do my own and after reading the listowners posts this is a more
creative way than just sending mail and saying "ME TOO!"

Top Ten Reasons Why I'm Staying on the FORKNI-L List.

10. To see that I'm not the only person that yells "Schanke!!!" at the Late
Shift promo.

9. To read posts regarding ger's butt and every other's cast members anatomy,
and to read reprimands about how it shouldn't be discussed here!

8. To read more Top Ten Lists.

7. To find out why we should join the fkfic Wars!

6. To see how many people break the list rules by using more than four lines
of dialogue from previous posts.

5. To steal as many "Warm Fuzzies" as I possibly can!

4. Read about people picking factions for themselves or their friends.

3. To avoid picking factions for myself!

2. The FK lists are where all the "Cool & Hip" People hang out!

And the Number One Reason to Why I'm Staying:

1. Hey it's a list about my favorite show! I ain't going nowhere!

Don't know. But I do know that I'd *love* to hear the music from the Raven

Fred Mollin do ALL the music for FK?

Subject: Life after Stripping?

According to a recent post (digests are hell to quote) Tristar bought FK
with the original intention of stripping the show. That need not be as
discouraging as it sounds. Remember, Star Trek got the vast majority of
its following AFTER it was stripped (in those days, I'm not sure FIRST RUN
syndication even EXISTED except possibly for game shows.) It is unlikely
that a station that buys FK for stripping will show it in the wee hours of
the morning, and if it does, it's easier to find a show that is on five
times a week rather that just once. Who knows, in 10 years we might be
looking back and wondering how we ever could have thought FK might die.
We might even be debating the difference between Nighties and KNIGHTERS!

Subject: Possible Long-Term Outcome

I have been seeking a silver lining to the current predicament, and
someone (I accidentally deleted the post) drew a corallary to "classic"
Star Trek.

Using that model, we could look forward to:
1: FK movies in which the continutiy is at least no worse than the series,
2: contact lenses tht don't harm the actors,
3: enough time devoted to writing the script so that no characters are,
well, out of character
4: *subplots*
-and-
5: a large enough budget to do thorough historical research (no more
"Battle of Hastings").

My thanks for your indulgence.

Totally newbie(i.e.-stupid) question. What the H-E-double-hockey-

ACK!! I was so mad that I threw the remote and smacked the coffee
table (people, I think I broke my hand! It's all bruised and still
aching... whimper....). Oh well, what's a little pain for FK? We
must suffer for what we love. But, *I* didn't want to suffer
personally! I wanted to inflict suffering on someone else!!

Ah, everyone who pointed out that there's more than 50+ posts? You were
right. I was wrong, I forgot---more than half my stuff is digest. So all
this lovely discussion gets to *me* in one big mega-post. I forgot that's
not true for all of us. :)

And I didn't want to scare the newbies TOO badly. C'mon and play guys, it's
fun... you have nothing to lose but your minds...

As for going off-list when the series finally goes off the air---they'll
get me off this list when they pry the keyboard from my cold, dead hands...
and then I'll bite them for trying. :)= Seriously, though, I go into
extreme withdrawal when my shows are cancelled. I'll NEED this place for a
while, and then later I'll adjust. I'm glad Jaye isn't kicking us out into
the cold immediately after they close up shop in Toronto.

The idea of weekly "series" broadcasts isn't bad either. Discussing fan-fic
is almost as much fun as discussing the show.

This turns out to be a long disquisition on why I want a fourth
season of episodes instead of movies. Everyone should feel perfectly
free to ignore it (there went a bunch of hands for the delete button

Yeah, like for example sometimes Warp 9 shakes the vampires to
pieces and sometimes they can handle it just fine. And sometimes they
bleed purple and sometimes they bleed red?

This, however, could mean that Screed, Schanke, Cohen, and any
other character in need of resurrection could reappear. It can also mean
that Kirstie Alley will suddenly turn into someone else, who will later
be a Klingon. (Lemme think... Ben Bass becomes Michael Praed and then
becomes a.. mortal?) (Nigel Bennett becomes Anthony Hopkins and then
becomes a .. mortal?)

> 2: contact lenses that don't harm the actors,

though the color code may change again (ready for red to mean
'mildly aroused,' green to mean 'threatened,' white to mean 'utterly
starving'?). If Mr. Spock's ear variations and the designs of the various
Enterprises are any guide, the fangs won't be subtle or sexy, either--
they'll be big whacking inelegant "we wouldn't want you to miss the fact
that he's a vampire" teeth.
Plus, on Star Trek's later incarnations, there was a sudden
proliferation of life forms that came from the Planet Latex, including,
strangely, old friends such as Romulans and Klingons whose foreheads had
undergone strange mutant transformations in a mere two centuries. Will
we get strange mutant vamps? Think Quentin Tarantino makeup jobs....

think LaCroix's eyebrows these last few eps, times five.

> 3: enough time devoted to writing the script so that no characters are,

yeah, like Spock greeting the "brother" we never knew he had for
a mere 20 years.... for that matter, like Spock singing Row Row Row Your
Boat at the foot of a climb called the Nose in Yosemite

> 4: *subplots*

we have those. they're called "flashbacks." They induce erratic
driving and are sometimes really *hot*

> -and-
> 5: a large enough budget to do thorough historical research (no more
> "Battle of Hastings").

but I *liked* the Battle of Hastings! I mean, I howled at the
time, but I like the fact that the show is coming out almost at the pace
of life, mistakes and all. I liked the cheesy papier-mache boulders on
original Trek, and the way everyone acted tongue in cheek. When they were
making multi-million dollar movies, all of a sudden the Trek folks took
themselves seriously, and, imho, it was never as much fun again. Ditto
Star Wars by the third movie. Think of Ger and Catherine Disher in that
"does this mean my knee is in your body parts Hall of Fame?" scene -- the
immediacy of that kind of delivery, produced when you have good actors but
they only have a couple takes to get it, disappeared from the Trek movies.

All imho, and as Lane said, thanks for your indulgence.

I hope FK comes back as an episodic series. I really really do.
