Teresa, I want you to know that I replied to your message a while ago, and
you probably didn't receive it, because I think I have the wrong e-mail
address. I sent you two other messages today, at the two addresses I have

this one. Please let me know when you see any of the 3 messages...

Ok, now to talk about FK, let's just say that I think I _may_ be a Merc!
After reading the 'advertisement' a few days ago, I realized it looked a lot
like me. But I'm not sure, 'cause I think I may also be a Die Hard. Oh,

Oh, oh I knew that all Vaqueras would go to the barricades over this Vachon
comment of mine...
So let me clear this up a bit: It's not that I don't think Vachon is good
looking, cute or has a great sense of humor - I have a thing for men with
long, dark hair:-) But I just believe that the Vachon-character is a bit too
obvious... When I look at him it's so obvious that his target group are
women in their twenties and I start feeling a bit manipulated.
Call it stupid but I don't like him that much because I know I was *meant*
to like and lust after him.

With all of this weird reasoning of mine it's no wonder I'm a Cousin;-)

Well-adjusted? A vampire who follows one of his creations around the
world for centuries, hounding him and refusing to let go? I don't think
so. A well-adjusted vampire would have given up on Nick and walked away
long ago. Or, he would have finished Nick off and then walked away.
Well-adjusted vampires don't waste time trying to win back someone who
doesn't want to be a vampire. (BTW, I'm obviously glad that LaCroix
didn't just kill Nick... although if you watch both "Dark Knight" and
"Killer Instinct" there were moments in each where I think he was trying
to finish Nick off.)

Of course, I prefer poorly-adjusted vampires like Nick. And to tell you
the truth, I'm glad LaCroix is poorly adjusted in his own way because he
makes a nice counterpoint to Nick. But I *don't* consider LaCroix to be
well-adjusted.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I think Nick is well-adjusted for a
vampire who wants to be mortal, thinks killing is wrong but is overwhelmed
by bloodlust because of his very nature, is in love with a mortal with
whom he cannot consummate his love without risking killing her or bringing
her across to share his curse, and has a strong sense of justice but keeps
finding that the line between "good" and "evil" is nearly impossible to
locate much less stay on the right side of.

In the first two seasons, Janette was a reasonably well-adjusted
vampire. Especially considering her family's... problems.

Think back to Lacroix, who had clearly been checking Janette out
for a while before he brought her over. When he tells her he's been told
she's of noble blood (on the wrong side of the blanket) and asks if it's
true, she says "I am as you wish me to be," and he responds, "oh, I want
you to be so much more than -merely- noble." Janette says something
similar when she discovers the hooker she was going to bring across had
betrayed her.. "I almost gave you the greatest gift." I think some
vampires look at humans mainly as food, but maybe the interesting ones
might be worth bringing across to see if they couldn't perhaps grow up to
be... people (vampires).

Subject: Re: New Topic--last 3rd season ep

What would I like to see in the last episode?

A long discussion on this list about how, since Ger, Nigel, Ben, and Urs
(sorry, I can't remember the actress' name) are all pushing eighty (or
ninety, or a hundred, or...)
they really are miscast for immortal, forever young, vampires. In case I'm
not making myself clear, I'd like the "last" episode to be part of the 40th
season or so.

However, since realistically, we have to consider the possiblility that
the last episode will be shot this month, here are some things I'd like to
see:
Nick confessing his (ahem) undying love for Nat, and finally bringing
her across so that they can be together forever. [Failing that, a certain
scene from Human Factor that I can't talk about here]
LaCroix shifting his attention from Nick to Vachon, who really could use
the guidance. Vachon then begins to avoid the Raven, but LaCroix shows up in
the oddest spots. After all, Uncle has mastered the art of "catching"
someone without actually "chasing" them (ask Nick).
Tracy meets Urs and discovers lesbian tendencies. [All right, I
apologize in advance for this one - but I *would* like to see it.]
Reese going to the water cooler, and the valve stick open and the entire
bottle empties out.

Robin Carroll Mann noted that if Nat were a Librarian, she'd be a Reference
Librarian and asked for thoughts about the other characters.

I worked in a college library for five years, so I thought I'd share my
thoughts. If you think Reference Librarians solve puzzles, try being a shelf
stacker in the Bound Periodicals section. Every January the volume of VITAL
SPEECHES OF THE DAY which included Martin Luther King Jr's "I had a dream"
speech vanished into the dark nooks and crannies of the section (I'll just
hide it here so I can finish with it after English Lit).

   Oops back to topic:

LaCroix would be Circulation (That's one pint of blood for every day
overdue).
   Nick would be Rare Books
Tracy would be Cataloging (Stuck with the paperwork again).
   Janette would be Acquisitions.
Vachon would be shelf stacker in Closed Stacks
and the Head Librarian would be Screed (bet you thought I was gonna say
Reese!)

And that is MHO on the subject

Subject: Re: Nick and Children

Although Nick's culture could have been acquired over his 800-year
"life" as a vampire, I feel it is more likely that he was brought up in a
chivalrous family of the 13th Century, rather than a dirt-poor one. His
obvious respect for science and quest for knowledge outside his experience
(Black Buddha, The Cure) show a thirst (ahem) for knowledge that must have
been part of him all his existance.
That being said, why did Nick not have lands and a family? It was
fairly common, although not a hard and fast rule, that the second son went
into the military and the third into the clergy. Was Nicholas de Brabant a
professional soldier, thus a second son? Probably. It would explain him
gadding off to the Crusades and fighting Druids in Wales. But eldest sons
sometimes met with accidents, and second sons inherited (which was why the
third, rather than the second, went into the clergy). Therefore, it would be
part of Nick's social obligation to marry and have children, especially
since he was in an occupation with six feet of earth as a retirement plan.
We are given to believe that Nick's One True Love [I forget both her
name and the name of the episode, but I'm talking about the woman who
"haunted" Nick in the ep with the *real* haunted house] was *not* his mortal
wife. I wonder if we are giving Nick the benefit of the doubt while the
fact of the matter is that he had mortal children, he just never gave a d**n
about them. The further back we go, the more of a b*****d Nick tends to be.

Thanks. The author sent me a copy. Maybe someone will write a sequel,
where the X-files ACTORS, puzzled by the kind of troubles encountered by
their colleagues on FK, decide to investigate the situation as their

Boy, am I happy. I just got the complete set of Canadian first-season
episodes. I am deleriously happy with 'em. I now get to see what I missed.

A plea -- does someone have a complete set of season two eps that they
can tape for me? I will gladly reimburse the cost, or make a high-quality
copy of the FK CD when it comes out. E-mail me privately, please. Thanks in

It strikes me that we are getting *nowhere* with TriStar and that lit-
tle [insert derogatory and obscene remarks about parentage here] Feltheimer.
Supposedly, he was on our side, but it looks like the Great God Money means
more than customer satisfaction. So be it.

Sony will be getting letters from me. I'm writing several of 'em to-
night, and the only thing I need from y'all is the addresses to send 'em to.
Again, replies to my private address. TPTB at Sony are our only shot; it is
well-known that the Japanese are great adherents to honor, politeness, and
honesty. If we tell them in those terms (honestly, politely, and honorably),
they *will* listen. And maybe -- _just maybe_ -- we can get FK back, and a
nice bonus would be Feltheimer's head on a stake. Or a silver platter. I
know, for a Nanette, that's pretty violent, but since Nanettes also follow
Janette, I'm entitled to occasional fits of bloodthirstiness. <eg>

And just a quick word on spellcasting, hexes, etc. I'm a practicing
pagan myself, and although I do have background in the more destructive types
of spells, *I am not using them*. Destruction begets destruction. I *have*
cast several positive-energy-type things. Just little stuff. Folks, sympathe-
tic magic *works*. So be careful with it.

        <soapbox mode off>

ObFK: I'm gradually managing to bring my sister across. She's
sort of admitted that she likes Nick, and is unwillingly being entranced by
Uncle. Score another one for the Nightcrawler. I've brought a couple of
people across at work, and they are *not* in the typical demographic. I feel
rather proud of myself. My boss is mid-40s, and before being turned on to
FK, had an idea that good TV was watching reruns of old monster truck
rallies. Not that there's anything wrong with that . . .
My Big Boss also has watched an ep or two of a tape I loaned him, and
he said that he'd like to see more. I've agreed to loan him some more out of
my collection.

See? If I can convince truck drivers, a fleet owner, and a safety
director that FK's cool, imagine what else can be done. :)

Oooooh, no, no. *Bad* Nanette-- no biscuit! >:(

I'm sure Pat just got carried away by severe season-two deprivation <g>,
but it's one thing to make copies of the tapes the TriStar <elbows> *won't*
sell us-- quite another to make copies of the CD they *will*! (And they
_will_... any day now, right???)

A quick second to this from me, for anyone still unconvinced out there.
_Positive_ energy, guys. It's one thing to want Feltheimer's head on
a stake... quite another to work towards such an end, in _any_ way.
Work on good energy for us and the FK folk... or a sudden, blinding
burst of _enlightenment_ for our <dear> TriStar folk... :-)

do we have any *Pagan librarians* on the list... hmmmm? :-)

Hi everyone.
I just subscribed today, and I've already been swamped by the amount of
traffic. WOW, and I thought the SOS-FK movement on CIS was big. Anyway, A little
about me:
I'm a 16 year old kid who goes to a Japanese private school in NY. I have
an interest (some say that it's an obsession, but don't listen to them) in
computers, SF and, of course, FK.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would be generous enough to make copies
of 1st, 2nd and 3'rd (up to the one with the haunted house) episodes for me. If
so, please e-mail me privately.
Also, I was told that my feeble skills in Japanese might be useful in
writing letters to the SONY executives. I don't know how, but on the off chance
that you DO have a question that I might be able to help with, I'll be more than
happy to.

Does any one know the name of the CD? I'd like to get one when it comes out.

How about "what did Jeanette say to Nick about Nat's brother being brought

Subject: Some encouraging words

Hi all! I just talked to my brother who's a lawyer with a firm
that deals with media-type things (at least once in a while). I described
FK's situation and how Tristar kept upping the price and asked him what he
thought might cause a company to act that way. He said (and it is not
necessarily an informed opinion, just a semi-educated one) that Tristar
might:

A) see value in the series, and this first "entertaining of bids" was
simply a trial balloon to see what kind of offers they'd get,
what kind of demand there is, etc., so they could find out how much they
can ask when they intend to actually sell it;

B) see value in the series and just be waiting -- for mid-season
replacements, another spot to open up, to get enough money to invest in the
project;

C) see value in the series and are "packaging" it with another show,
holding up a decision on FK alone until stations are willing to buy both
shows for syndication;

D) intend to offer it for syndication only, with several options
proceeding from there --
*offering only one season, to drive up demand and price for other seasons,
*offering some or all seasons while withholding key episodes for their
exclusive use, like keeping the pilot or final episode for release on
video, or licensing them for use only on special, "unseen episodes" shows,
*offering FK in syndication for the time being, using the reaction to that
and demand for more as a gauge for whether they should invest in a FK
movie, or even start production of new episodes,
*offering FK in syndication because they need the money (which doesn't rule
out further action once they do have money)

E) see value in it and intend to hold onto it rather than selling it,
without necessarily airing any episodes -- whether new or in syndication.

He said repeatedly (and I kept asking this, to make sure) (another
"this is just his opinion" disclaimer) that if Sony, Tristar, etc. saw no
value in the series, they'd just dump it -- sell immediately. I asked
again, and he repeated that if a company saw no value in a series --
whether through syndication, merchandising, new episodes -- they would sell
it right off the bat, not waiting around for better deals, etc.

So, it seems to me that the good news about Tristar's refusal to
sell is that they see something in FK, which at least opens the possibility
that they might do something more with it, but the bad new is there's no
telling when that might happen.
Although I'm new to the list, a lot of you have been through this
scenario before with FK, so we all know that FK can "come back from the
dead," even after years have passed. I felt encouraged by what he said, so
I thought I'd pass it on. This recapitulates a lot of what people have
already been saying on the list, but I hope it cheers y'all up as much as
it did me.
Any lawyers out there or people in the media industry who want to
add to or correct anything here, please let me know -- I really want to get
a picture of what's going on. Bye! Sally

Well first of all, someone posted eloquently on fkspoilr (I think)
wondering whether 3rd season newbies could really understand the mystique
and pull of the show without having seen the first two seasons. I was
hooked on just the 3rd season, but the first season! The relationships
make so much more sense, are so much more compelling. You can feel the
pull and tug between Nick and Nat, between Nick and Janette. There's
humour, too, that's missing in the third season. I find myself comparing
the Nick-Nat-Schanke triangle (elements of the mundane, and of fun) with
the Nick-LaCroix-Janette triangle (a whole different kind of fun,
definitely not mundane!) and then Nick alone (can we say angst?).

Subject: FK Variety Article

Hi All--
Susan wanted me to pass along some information about the article
about someone attempting a buyout of FK. Her friend has found the source of
the article, but hasn't gotten the actual text yet. It turns out it wasn't
Variety, but a private on-line Hollywood oriented service called
"Future-Stars". They apparently publish a lot of inside information by and
for the industry, but it's not like a regular publication. The word seems
to be that they are credible, but we don't know any details of the article
or the offer. Subscription to it is apparently very expensive & exclusive.
I've been trying to follow up on her lead by calling them directly but
couldn't reach anyone today. Susan is in TO and will follow up more when
she returns. She's also got her friend working on it. I will also persu my
lead on Monday. Hopefully soon we'll have a copy of the article and more
information (if there are any details in the report.) Hang in there!

On a not completely unrelated note I have a suggestion for letters
to the Sony Japanese hierarchy. We've written numerous letters and sent
numerous packages to TriStar and Mr. Feltheimer. As far as I know, *not
one* has been acknowledged. (OK, I realize they may not be able to respond
to each one personally, but it's pretty standard practice to at least send
out a form letter.) Part of what has us all so upset is their refusal to
respond in any way to perfectly polite requests and letters of support. May
I suggest that we *very politely* point this out to the Sony executives.
(remember we want them to realize how sweet & reasonable we are -- TriStar
is probably saying we're all raving maniacs). My guess is this is not
something Sony would like to hear, but my impression of Japanese culture is
we should be low-key and non-confrontive about it (Those who know more feel
free to comment if I'm wrong..)

Something along the lines of :

"I was very disappointed that TriStar did not chose to respond or
acknowledge my letter (my gift) etc."
"I'm writing you as TriStar has not responded to any letters inquiring about
of the fate of the show"

"I know many fans have written TriStar asking for information, but so far
no-one has received a response of any kind."

This just might get a question thrown from Sony to TriStar about
how they've responded to the letters (and maybe about just how many they've
received) . Do not threaten to boycott Sony products or anything -- there's
no reason to threaten when we can politely remind them. They are probably
well aware that bad feelings about TriStar could rebound on Sony. Just an idea.
