Oh I think plenty of Cousins comprehend angst. I just think there are at
least two different kinds of Cousins, hence my two descriptions. :) The
first kind loves being wicked, no doubt about it. The second kind isn't
wicked, but seems drawn to people who *are*. :) Let's try to categorize
non-FK vampires into factions, to illustrate my point. Anne Rice's Lestat
(at least in the first few books) is a Wicked Cousin (such as myself on most
days!). Now, you'd think Anne Rice's Louis would be a Knight, but you'd be
wrong. :) He is attracted to wicked people, i.e. Lestat. So Louis is a
Cousin. Ta da! :) These are Melancholy Cousins (not to be confused with
Melancholy Babies!), or Despondent Cousins, or Cousins Who Hate Themselves
Because They Love Uncle.
Then there are the Cousins who really like Uncle, but at the same time they
really like to see him do non-Uncly things. *Some* Cousins even entertain
dreadful thoughts of reforming Uncle! <Shudder!> These are Reformation
Cousins in my book, and definitely spooky people.
I find I am *mostly* Wicked, but then there are angsty days at certain times
of the month (I won't go into details) when I definitely feel like once of
the melancholy types.
I just complicated things *way* too much, didn't I? Well, Cousins (and
Uncle) are known for philosophising! :)

Ok, let's recall cultural relativity again. :) There are many cultures that
have practiced or still practice infanticide. Usually female infanticide.
These people are not disturbed and heartless in their own minds. They are
only disturbed and heartless when we try to judge them by our Western
standards. From their POV, it's a survival thing. They leave the females to
die because the males are more valued. The females are another mouth to
feed, and when it comes time to marry her off they have to pay someone a
bunch of money to take her. So from their POV, these parents are doing what
they think is best. (Now, my non-anthropologist, pro-feminist heart shudders
at these thoughts, but it is important we try to see things from others' POV
before judging them.)
I think it's quite conceivable that vampires might look at their hunting as a
"thinning" of the human population. You ever hear a hunter talk about
shooting a bunch of cute little deer? "Well, if we didn't kill em they'd
starve ta death!" I can quite easily see Lacroix having one of his long,
eloquent disserations on the kindness and mercy of vampires... :)
Of course, then there are those who just like being wicked and no amount of
anthropology can discern why. :)

Just a couple of thoughts.
1. I agree that TriStar isn't going to sell FK to save face--if it hits
after their mishandling of it, they look like fools. It *might* be debt
absolution, but they could sell FK and still keep their debt from what I
understand. That's why Waterworld wasn't the total disaster it could have
been.
2. Writing to the Japanese (at the NY address and the Tokyo address) is an
*excellent* idea, and I encourage everyone to do that, and to get their
friends to do that. The information someone posted about Sony going to a
"more market oriented company" could work to our advantage *so* well if we
play our cards right. Presenting ourselves as consumers of technology and
information could be just the thing.
3. And finally, publicity, publicity, publicity! And just a word of
caution--I've seen a lot of posts lately saying "I've got this contact but
I don't have the time or talent to put something together, can someone else
do it?" We've got to kind of stop doing that--it's your contact, you are
the best person to pass on the info. If you absolutely must pass this onto
someone else, follow it up! If you post to the list, make sure *someone*
does it. We can't afford to let any opportunities for publicity slide
under any circumstances.

Me too Me Too!!
I work on the weekends for extra money at an answering service and on Sundays
there are just two of us. There is a tv there hooked up to cable with a built in
VCR coz it's kind of slow sometimes and we watch tv. Anyway, one sunday I
brought one of my FK tapes and asked her to watch and see what she thought.
Now, every sunday not only do I have to bring that week's new episode but the
old ones as well so she can catch up!!

The vampire romance is a growing and thriving sub-genre of both romance and
horror (some are more one than the other). And being a reader of these I'm
certain that more writers than P.N. Elrod and Lynn Michaels have been
influenced by FK!
However, before our beloved listowners start taking us to task for getting
off the subject: we ARE getting off the subject, Forever Knight. But if
this is a genre you're reading or are interested in reading, there is a
romance readers list called RRA-L where the vampire romance has come up
more than once. It's also available as a newsgroup at many sites if you
don't want to join the entire list but only take a dip once in awhile
(fewer members yet almost as many messages per day as this list!). Email me
for information if you want to join (and btw, Karen Harbaugh, author of
"The Vampire Viscount" is a listmember, as well as many other writers) and
I'll help you find it.
ObFK: FOREVER KNIGHT is a wonderful example of the vampire romance, albeit
without an ending yet. And being an incurable romantic, I WANT Nick to end
up with Nat--whether he becomes human or she a vampire really makes little
difference to me, so long as the hope is there that they'll get together
somehow!

Note: the moral position is cultural *relativism*. The fact that
cultures do disagree on ethical questions is cultural *relativity*. If
Wicked Cousin Tippi and I disagree on what would be the right thing to do
in a particular case, that's *relativity*, but if we decide, based on
that, that neither is really more right than the other, that's
*relativism*. (Sorry, I'm an uncontrolled Philosophy TA.)
It is quite common for humans to consider it perfectly permissible to
kill other people, in certain circumstances, so long as the other people
in question are Thems when you divide up the world into Usses and Thems.
It is OK to kill people in a war because those people are by definition
Thems. (Even to the point of killing civilians, although some people
tend to classify civilians as Usses.) It is not OK to shoot your
neighbour, because your neighbour is an Us. Unless, for example, you
believe that the Us group is limited to members of a particular race, or
religion, or what have you.
(There are also other things we can do to Thems but not Usses --
incarceration, removal of property, etc. -- but there's no need to get
into that.)
So it's consistent for a vampire to have no ethical dilemma about
killing humans, as long as he doesn't identify with them. Similarly,
any human who regards vampires as sufficiently *fundamentally* different
is going to have no reason to consider killing them wrong.

Write letters to SONY. This is a *huge* untapped source out there. Airmail

one, there's almost a thousand people!! Tell the same friends and coworkers
to write, then mail Bea at OCaoin@a....... and tell her you did!!!
And as for talking to your sources, if you bungle a contact (and trust me,
you won't!!!! I have faith in each and every one of you!); trying to
convince someone of our viability, especially if, like the Wall Street
Journal person, they haven't heard anything about us before; can only work to
our advantage. There's no way you can do this wrong. If they haven't heard
about us yet, any information they get from published sources in the future
can only work to *shore up*, not detract, from what we're telling them.
There's no such thing as a person on this list who isn't talented enough to
do this well!!!
Time, of course, is another issue, but if at all humanly possible, PLEASE
MAKE TIME. This is your Forever Knight as well.

Hi all,
I just wanted to post an update on bringing my friend Heather across.
She's been faithfully watching the eps and has decided on her faction.
She is....(drumroll please) a Knightie!!! (So hands off, Cousins. :) )
She came up to me in the computer lab and said, I quote, "Knight's cute."
Yes, the girl has *good* taste.
When I asked about LaCroix, she said, and again I quote, "LaCroix? He's...
uh...ew...he's like kinda gross." Hahahahahaha , so there Cousins. <vwg> (No,
she's not a Valley Girl despite the above statement)
She also brought up the similarity between Q and LaCroix. (Yes, I know it's
been mentioned a bunch of times but deal with it) and after I explained
the Q-Tip crack to her she said, "Hmmm, I guess that *really* makes him a
*Q*-Tip, doesn't it?" (She said that, not me)
She then went on and basically said what we all know. :) That LaCroix is a
bit of a bully and is more human that he wants to admit. Every time LaCroix
tries to keep Nick as a vampire, he's just revealing his humanity. He *has* to
control everyone and everything or he'd go nuts. (He already has, if you ask
me. Kidding, just kidding)
Now, did she nail LaCroix or did she nail LaCroix?
Anyway, I gave her the address of the list and the info on how to get on, so

Heheheh...when I read this I had this vision of Uncle licking his lips and
justifying to Nicholas his choice of Tracy as dinner:
Nicholas: "LaCroix! You killed my partner!"
Uncle: "She wouldn't have survived very long, Nicholas. It was a kindness to
put her out of her misery. The poor creature was brain dead. She wouldn't

i hereby establish it.
'Cause there doesn't seem to be one, except in theory.
i'm not going to assume a credo or anything like that (not that her faction
members couldn't). i just happen to be a little fond of her. That's enough.
So, no, i'm not going to list all the characteristics of a Urs follower,
like we (yes, i did this too :) do with Knighties, Cousins, etc. Urs can be
seen as a Vaquera, for example. Like that. But i'm not going to do that (i
happen to really dislike Vachon).
i was thinking of "Gods" and "Goddesses" but that's just a teeeensy bit
arrogant. Urs isn't the arrogant type. So, uh, if i'm the only one (don't
think so, tho...) i'll just, idaknow, come up with something eventually or
just pick one of the ones you guys made up. This is a loose group, not much
deep-thinking involved when we can help it :)

Ooh! I'm going to attempt to bring someone across tonight! (I hope I have
better luck than Nick has had) And I only have really clear copies of the
third season.
Here's my plan: ply my friend with Chinese food, then show "Night In
Question," followed by a break to watch "Friends" and walk the pooch, then
into "My Boyfriend Was A Vampire" and finally "Fever." If she's still
conscious, we *may* stay up to watch whatever USA decides to throw on at 1 am.
Any other suggestions? Or good wishes? Letter writing has already been
mentioned as a requirement from continuing friendship. Keep your fingers
crossed -- she has potential.

But for an FK vampire to bring someone across means that the vampire
*does* identify with that particular human in some way (else why
bring that person across?). If the vampire can make that distinction,
then he/she *is* able to identify with humans.
Also, Cousin Tippi's comments about killing female children (while
true) is an eastern culture concept. Most all of the flashbacks and
origins of FK vampires are of western origin where this action would
not have been common to the cultures they came from or moved in.

Can vampires or Nick detect other vampires that they haven't
shared blood with?? I'v seen Nick detect one now and then but sometimes
he can't or dosen't, I don't know. For example, thier was an eps. when
Nick fell in Love with a dancer, then stuff happens(try not to ruin it)
and anyways these two guys pass Nick and Nick doesn't know that they are
vampires and then more stuff happens(try not to ruin again:) Can someone
clear this up. I know that in the Anne Rice world that vampires can
detect each other is it the same for FK??
