We never heard a last name for Janette until Nick introduced her in the
flashback for Be My Valentine as "Janette Ducharme." To the best of my
memory we never heard it again either in the past or the present.

Angelique's last name on Dark Shadows, original version, was usually
given as Dubois (they screwed up once and used Duval.) Dalton, is there
any chance that you're thinking of Dark Shadows?

Janette has probably had different names over her long lifetime just
as Nick has. It seems that our three vamps usually keep their first
name (or some version of it) and have different last names.

As Sci-Fi Channel has been recently airing the 1795 flashback that
introduced how Barnabas became a vampire, I can assure you that
Angelique's name was Angelique Bouchard originally.

I think what LC has could better be described as a sense of honor.
By that, I mean that he has a set of rules for his life that he
abides by. It includes the vampire Code, but other things as
well. I think much of his concept of honor comes from his Roman
background, which tells him that might makes right, that a father
has absolute power over his children, and that cruelty and even
death can be forms of entertainment. I think that in this
context, LC sees his actions as consistent, appropriate, and
   honorable.

ITA w/ Zillah here. Sometimes the line betwen love and infatuation is thin,
and can only be truly distinguishable in retrospect. At the time, I think LC
believed he was in love with her. Why else would he be so ticked off at
himself for what he was feeling? Or maybe it really was infatuation, but
that's beside the point. I think it goes beyond that. Ultimately, LC wanted
to possess her like he does Nick. If he had brought her across would he
still love her?? As my buddy Albert Camus says "The desire for possession
is insatiable, to such a point that it can survive even love itself. To love
therefore, is to sterilize the person one loves." So, in answering my own

Just a few ramblings from your friendly neighborhood madwoman:

1. I've been tossing around the idea of writing a piece of fanfic. Can
anyone who's seen all three seasons help me out with some information about
Natalie's family? I know she had a brother, but have they ever said if there
were any other siblings? Where did she grow up? Where are her parents? You
get the idea of what I'm looking for. Details, anyone?

2. You Know You've Been Watching Too Much Forever Knight When . . .
You manage to hit YOURSELF in the mouth during karate practice (yes, it takes
a special kind of talent), and when you look in the mirror and see a dribble
of blood on the corner of your mouth you think to yourself (in LaCroix's
spookiest voice) "Really, Nicholas, you try to be a bit neater when you eat."

3. To whomever started the "LaCroix as the Fonz of the Dark Side" thing:
I'm never going to forgive you. For the past few days, I've been imagining
LaCroix in a black leather jacket with a ducktail going around saying
"Aaaaaaaaay!" Get a mental image, folks:
Nick - "Do you mean that I'll never be human? I will forever be doomed to
thirst for the blood of man, always searching for, but never finding
redemption?"
LaCroix - "Correctamundo!"
Arghhhhhhh! Make it stop!!!!!!!!

Whether it was love or infatuation or whatever LC felt for Fleur,
his *previous character* was the type to take what he wanted. Why
should he spare Fleur from being brought over when he hasn't spared
anyone else he's wanted from that fate? I found his actions to be
a "humanization" of LC to make him seem "kindler and gentler" to the
viewers. Such "humanization" of LC was a consistent feature of
second season and both weakened his character and lessened the
threat of him. It was part of the shift to "character" rather than
"issues" from first to second season and added to make the FK world
more realistic and *ordinary*. Unfortunately, expanding on LC's
"character" seemed to have been done without a lot of thought about
whether the things introduced were consistent with how his character
was previously presented. People can harp about it only being Nick's
flashbacks we saw in first season (which is mostly true), but the
LC in those flashbacks *did* (and should) exist. If LC *really*
wanted Fleur, he would have brought her over and Nick's pleading be
damned.

They get lonely. Remember where in AMPH LC says he wants companionship?
He doesn't say "relationship" or "a lover", tho of course these things are a
possibility... Ahem, anyway! ;) He wants a faithful companion... like a
laborador, but since he doesn't like dogs he chose Nick! (This all kinda
ties in to my Nick-on-a-leash theory. ;) )

>At least bringing over your *food* seems pretty perverse to me. :)

Think of it like making your potential food into a *pet*. He certainly
treats his children like pets. *I* wouldn't mind being his pet. ;)

>If FK vampires can value some humans as more than "food", then,
>outside of perversity, it seems to me that to "kill" other humans
>for "food" *is* murder.

I think it's only murder (or at least considered thus by those who commit it)
if you kill one you love. It's like when my dad was overseas he ate dog
meat, but he would *never* kill one of our dogs. And I used to have a pet
rat, rest her little rodent soul, who I loved dearly, but I still have rat
poison up in the attic. (Tho in truth I'd rather catch them and set them
free somewhere...!) You can probably conceive of valuing some cows as more
than "food", say as pets (it *does* happen), but you'd still probably eat
hamburgers, and there's nothing murderous about that IMO.

Yes! Well said, Cousin!

You can consider yourself a Cousin because of many things, but here are just
two that strike me as particularly interesting, as they are ironic. :)

You may be a Cousin if:

1. You find yourself having fun at being wicked. You like the idea of
having power over those around you. You enjoy having a biting wit and an
elegant delivery. You like who and what you are, no excuses, and see no
point in bemoaning your situation. You look good in a toga.

OR:

2. You find yourself being miserable all the time and full of angst. You
like idea of someone having power over you. You enjoy listening to a radio
personality who has a biting wit and an elegant delivery. You hate what you
are and make excuses all the time, and you need someone to constantly coax
you to accept your darkside. You might look good in a toga, but you're
bashful about your chest, tho' you like the way other people look in togas.

Woo hoo! I just had a premonition of all the mail I'm gonna get about this!
 :)

No wonder I call myself...

I wrote to Kay and Rod (and bribed them with chocolate) today -- I wrote
"personal" on the packages, so maybe they will get past the mail room. I
suggested that since they have spend good money on FK that they really
oughtn't to waste it by sticking it in the attic (at 1am). I also reminded
them that despite the weird and unannounced scheduling changes, FK's
audience HAS increased each season (and has NOT decreased since the move to
1am).

Point: I suggested that they 1) advertise the show since it took me TWO
years to find it and I watch more tv than many and 2) that they try moving
it to SUNDAY nights as part of the "Murder, She Wrote," "Renegade," and
"Silk Stalkings" line-up.

So, if a lot of us write and suggest nicely that Sunday would be good,
perhaps they will give it a try.

He didn't have to. Waking up a bomb-wrecked corpse on her dissection table,
all fangs and glowing yellow eyes, made it kinda obvious.

But, come to think of it, he did tell her, anyway.... <g>

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would let everyone that I have set my digest to no-mail
for a while. I've really enjoyed helping out with the SOS-FK and if
anyone needs to contact me, I do check my e-mail once day. It's been a
lot of fun, but life has thrown a curve ball. If we do get a 4th
season, could some kind and gentle reader please drop me an e-mail
letting me know. TTFN!

Cheers,

That should be talked about on the Spoiler list, not the entire list.
And all I will say is just watch the tag carefully, and you'll know why.

That was NOT what I was asking. What I need to know (so I can write near
canonical fan fic) is the last name she was using in Toronto in the first
two seasons. My memory and popular fan fic diverge on this point. If
possible, I would like the episode name it was revealed, and the context.
I've already written the first three chapters of a FK/BATB crossover, and
would like to make any changes necessary before I post it on FKFIC-L (and
get flamed by the nitpickers).

People, people please stop the requests!!!! I'm begging you! Pleading!
As I've told all that have asked, my 2nd VCR is currently being fixed, and I
don't know as of yet if it is fixable. If not, there is no way I can afford
a second VCR, and I don't want to disssapoint or tick off anyone. Those who
have already asked me are guaranteed a tape, cause if I can't tape it, I'll
send the tape to the person I got all the eps from and have him tape it for
me. But please no more! As soon as my 2nd VCR is fixed and I can do it
again I will, free of charge of course wouldn't want to break any copyright
laws, except of course shipping and handling. Will post more info as
available. But please, please, please no more!!!

Yes, Angelique's name in 1795 was Bouchard. However, when the character
reappeared in the 1960's story under her own name and without the black
wig, she was calling herself Angelique Dubois. I still think that might
be the source of the idea that Janette was using Dubois.

Or has anyone used that for a surname for Janette in fanfic?

Anyone know a FK fan with a car of that description?

There is also another list. The address to send messages to the list is
x-files@lists.pipex.com. I don't know the subscribe address. Both of
these lists are forwarded to me by a friend. Let me know if you would
like a copy of each to check out.

ObFK - at what point can we use lines from shows under spoiler protection
in our sigs? I assume that it is for the same amount of time that the
show is under spoiler protection? There's a line from Fever that I'm
can't wait to add to my sig.

I'm starting work on a piece of fanfic, and I'm wondering two things.
First of all, do we know how Nick reacts to people from his past that
might recognize him, and who he doesn't have a chance to hypnotize
(third-season newbie)? And if so, *how*?
Second, what is the general 'limit' per part (in K or lines) on the
fkfic-l list?
 Thanks,
