You're referring to second season's Crazy Love. In that episode's flashback, Nick was seeing a merchant's daughter, Amalia. She was meeting with him at night and there would be some kissing and then he would bite her and take some blood, but not enough to kill her. He apparently visited her several times. I got the impression though that Nick had held back from a *complete* physical contact with Amalia--in fact, the episode seemed to focus more on how having her under his spell (and there *did* appear to be a "spell" of sorts on Amalia; she almost worshipped Nick and was *eager* to give herself to him and let him drink her blood) and how it translated into how such ultimate *possession* of another (to where that person was willing to give her all to Nick--she was in his total control) was an almost addictive high (probably why Nick hasn't been shown "sipping" much). Even just the awakened memory of Amalia caused Nick in the present to desire possession and blood (which he sought out Janette to safely satisfy). Every time apparently that Nick revisted Amalia she was more willing to have him do whatever he wanted. She wanted him to kill her and of course, eventually he took that ultimate possession of her. But the whole flashback seemed to be to me concentrated on the blood fulfillment rather than sexual fulfillment. I'm not sure, but I don't think they engaged in a sexual encounter. Of course others may view that differently. :) The "possession" and the "surrendering of the victim's will" may be why Nick has not tried to get to close to Natalie. He wouldn't (and she wouldn't) want him to bring her over and he doesn't want to kill her. But if he tried to "sip" from Nat, it would put a whole new enormous strain on the relationship and both of them. And the "sipping" would probably eventually lead to Nick killing Nat and the circumstance of Nat dying in such a way would be much harder for Nick to deal with, I think. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 1996 08:01:23 -0800 From: LC Fenster <lucienlc@i.......> Subject: Re: Packages to TO >A question -- Since Nick Gray's request that we cool it on the goodies >is based on a fear it will be a distraction to finishing the tightly >scheduled filming, how about we save the stuff up & send it at the >very end of filming for the season??(And ask him when that is?) But I bet some Cousins and other LC appreciators on this list find LC's more dangerous sensuality attractive too. And I can think of two cases where a "romantic vampire hero" has not been outstandingly handsome: both actors who played Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows (the original and the remake). Neither Jonathan Frid or Ben Cross are that handsome (I don't think anyway) and yet, Jonathan Frid acquired a big female fan following (don't know about Ben Cross, since the remake only lasted for about 12 episodes). Ger, besides being good looking, also has a lot of natural charisma that adds to his attractiveness. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 1996 11:12:11 -0500 From: "Alora C. No, but we do cry/sweat water which makes up over 90% of our bodies, and which our body derives from almost everything we eat. So it makes sence that, since vampires don't have a water in-take the bodily functions that include water would, instead, include blood. Like Nat said in Fever (talking aobut Screed in the final stages "bleeding out"), she said the lungs and abdomin fill with fluid "in this case blood." It is one of the better articles on FK that I've seen. Or, should I say, three articles: one on the show generally (which includes quotes from Ger, Lisa Ryder and Blu Mankuma), one on Bedard and Lalonde, and one on Nigel and LaCroix. It was done before USA dumped the show, but after the beginning of third season, so it does discuss the new characters. (Always interesting to read about what the new characters are *supposed* to be like, knowing how they always insist upon turning out differently. :-) ) And, of course, the Cousin in me was delighted not only by the nice interview with Nigel, but by the discussion of the Nick/LC relationship by Bedard and Lalonde. Btw, speaking of the Nigel article, our favorite lurker strikes again. Remember the forkni discussion some months back about who we would cast in "FK The Movie"? Just a newbie's thoughts: It got me thinking about a comment I read by someone as to why Nick agreed to be brought across - something about how he had really gotten drunk at a banquet in a flashback. It occurred to me that this could have been a perfect opportunity for him - although a tad sticky morally (he was a Crusader after all.) The idea of killing per se shouldn't have bothered him though since that _was_ his business after all, although justified by believing his side was the righteous one. The opportunity? Would he, as a landless knight in his mid- to late thirties be reaching the end of his value as a reliable fighting man? Think of a pro American football player... if he lasts to that age, his body can take the beating because of sports medicine, scientific training and diet - and the actual battle lasts under two hours using only bodies as weapons. Nick would have worn 50 lbs of chainmail over heavy padding and wielded a weapon, from horseback, for hours. Wouldn't Nick's prospect within a few years be of being left behind to guard the castle, train the younger knights, and pray he had served his lord well enough to warrant being permitted to live out his old age in his liege's service? Not a very inviting prospect. Maybe staying young and immortal appealed as a very attractive alternative. As to illegitimate children - from Nick's behavior in the episodes I've seen, unless his libido was greatly increased by becoming a vampire, he must have been reproducing like a bunny throughout Europe and the Near East! Or did Leah mean to say, "Quite frankly, if you are devoutly religious in the traditional sense (which, of course, must mean that you are a narrowminded bigot), this isn't exactly the appropriate list to be subscribed to in the first place"? Let's be careful with sweeping generalizations like this, guys. It's a sure way to end up with egg on your face. I encountered it last year with people on the Nine Inch Nails newsgroup who thought there was no way on earth a religious individual could have sneaked through their elitist portals and be listening to so-called "evil music". Needless to say, they were wrong. I think we might all be surprised by the amount of people on this list who might consider themselves "religious" in one form or another. Normally I wouldn't do this on-list, and i apologize. "Traditionally religious" was probably just a try -- and thanks for trying to find a nonflamable way of putting it, Leah -- at describing people like that Teleflora operator who said she couldn't watch the show because she's a Christian. I'm sure there are equivalent types in other religions. No doubt those types wouldn't like FK and wouldn't want to be subscribed. For the record I know practicing Jews, Christians (including one fundamentalist), Wiccans and Pagans on Forkni-l. I know a number of atheists and agnostics. We've never had but one serious problem over religion and that was because of a misunderstanding in which the poster was quite sincere. The problem went away as soon as someone found out what had caused the misunderstanding.
