I had my *very first* "YKYB..." experience today!

Let's see if I got this right... <clearing throat, stepping up to podium,
ahem ahem>

You know you've been watching too much Forever Knight when...

You start dreaming in FK episodes! Now this wouldna happened to me before I
stumbled upon this list two weeks ago and have since become enmeshed
(delightfully so) in the world of FK fandom and fans. But today, as I went
to go lie down (suffering from another caffeine-withdrawal headache), I fell
asleep and began to dream in scenes from FK! Most of them I recognized --
Fever, GVP, etc. But then there was one about the lost land of Atlantis, a
tidal wave, and using Uncle as a life preserver while adrift at sea...

It wasn't entirely a bad dream you know...

Designating the topical width of a mailing list is a very tricky business.
Unfortunately, you can't have everything. A list has to have an optimum
number of messages to survive. Too many, and it becomes a burden to keep
up with. Too few, and it might be absorbed by a broader spectrum list, if
it isn't dropped altogether. You can lose subscribers the topic is too
narrow (as they become offended by complaints), or too broad (as in this
case, where winnowing the wheat from the chaff became too much).

The simplest answer Cassie's problem is to start a new mailing list. But
what would we split off? Show discussions? This might require reposts of
old FKSPOILR digests to keep the band width up (something verboten under
current rules.) Would this include the SOSFK topic? Personal anecdotes
(YKYWTMFKW...)? Info requests? Tape requests?

Or should we split off the silly stuff? Maybe place it in FKFIC-L (it
mostly is fantasy, you know). Or in a new list (FKFUN-L)? Would the new
list include discussion of FKFIC-L? And, of course, the BIG QUESTION: Who
pays for it?

I don't know how many people out there feel like Cassie does. I, too, get
a little tired of it sometimes (although I think a lot of it is because of
the uncertainty about FK's future). But the only way a new list of any
kind could get started is if enough people expressed an interest in
subscribing. I really don't have any answers, and don't even know if this
is the proper place to discuss it. If anyone has the answers, send them to
Cassie. I'm much too new here to be seriously dissatisfied with the way
things are YET.

Human Factor was the last ep filmed before the Christmas Eve Massacre
announcement. But the crew/cast are currently filming 6 more (final?)
episodes on a reduced time schedule and budget. I don't have titles, but
Nigel Bennett is scheduled to direct one episode, and Ger said (at the AOL
conference) that he was directing the last(?) episode and that it would
include closure of some type but not enough to rule out future 2-hour movies
or (hopefully) a 4th season.

This discussion reminds me of an episode of Fantasy Island where a woman
made a deal with the devil for her soul (as vampires do). When payment
time came she got out of the deal because she was pregnant, i.e., two
souls!! In FK crossing over *generally* requires "consent". I think if
the child were born it would have to be human, and with an "untainted" soul.

Subject: Donations to SOS FK

I just wanted to say something to the list, and to the kind soul who wrote
privately, urging caution about causing myself undue financial hardship.
Thanks all, I appreciate your concern, and it feels good to know not
everyone just "read/delete" as they go through the mail. HUGS!!

My feeling is this, yes, I am a single mom, and I do have a strict budget.
That's why the first cheque was only $10.00. And I will send another
cheque, on my next pay, for another $10.00. I promise to feed myself and
Dexter first, (although I could afford to go without for a couple of
months!! BG), and I will pay my bills. Promise.

The $10.00 is one movie, no snacks. I'm going to give up 2 movies for Forever
Knight. Mind you, it would normally be six months before I hit two movies, but
I'll get a lot more "Knights" of pleasure from Forever Knight, than 2
movies. Pun intended.

Laurie forwarded the money, with, in my perception, the blessing of the
list! Therefore, I feel it is incumbent upon us to reimburse her. I will
send, only what I can afford, and likely on a disposable income ratio, is
just as much as anyone else.

I too, had my doubts when the talk started about raising funds and I am
amazed and astounded at how well we've done!! Now I feel I should do my
duty, better late than never! I had the option to publicly object to the
idea, but didn't. I wanted to see where it would go. And go we did!!!
So please, take my portion, and know I give it as sincerely as if it was
$5,000.00!! Every little bit helps.

Thanks again to everyone who was so concerned about me causing myself
financial hardship. I'm afraid my concience wouldn't let me get away
without doing "what I could" and my common sense won't let me do too much!

HUGS again!

I forgot who said on the list about a real FK calender from the Ger fan club.
Who was it? Sorry to have to post this on the list. Here is something else.

You know you have whatched too much Forever Knight when:
(1)Everyonce in a while you have to remind yourself that you can go
into the sunlught.
(2)You want to tape reruns just for the sake of reruns.(Even I don't
understand this joke.Ha. Oh well.)
(3)You start wishing your Biology teacher was Vachon or Nick or
LaCroix.(Me personally, I wish my Bio teacher was Lacroix. But that's just my
opinoin.)
(4)You have everything on your computer about Forever
Knight.(Including the WALLPAPER.)
(5)Whenever you watch any move you wish that Lacroix would come in
murder the protaganist and finally make the movie end(But if Lacroix was in
it I wouldn't want the movie to end.)
(6)You start to see warm fuzzies everywhere.(Not just on the set if
FK.)

Well that's it. If I get new idieas I'll post them.

Okay, Cousin Candice, you've convinced me... I *am* chicken. And I don't
like the feeling. (Knightie snarl!) Let me attempt to rectify that...

After due consideration, I am pausing in my posting of parts 20-29 of "A
Taste of Black Velvet" in order to rewrite parts of Chapters 16 and 21. I
promise, dear readers, that I will not make you suffer long (am *NOT* a
Cousin!) and hopefully will resume posting this very week. Considering what
I hope to do, you will be VERY GLAD I made these changes.

Meanwhile, I found this "Missing Scene" story (post-"Outside the Lines") on
my hard drive and will submit this little thing instead. It's another
N&Npacker story from early this season. (I guess I used to be a N&Npacker -
so, what happened to me?? ;D )

Does anyone else (besides Judy Freudenthal and myself) get POSSESSED by the
stories they write? "...Black Velvet" was/is a veritable vampire and has
been trying to suck me dry! Now the sequel, "House of Cross", is getting its
hooks in me.

I'd be interested in hearing what others listen to as they write. "A Taste
of Black Velvet" was written almost entirely while listening to Seals's two
CDs and a melange of DePeche Mode ("Violator", "Black Celebration", and "Some
Great Reward").

I think this is a GREAT idea! I mainly object to the so-and-so's butt,
LaCroix's dog, and fantasy FK calendar threads, though obviously these
are appealing to many other folks on the list. Would it be possible to

Subject: BAD Phone Call Day, GOOD Flyer Day

Okay, I am offically PISSED OFF at the USA Network. I (000) 000-0000 today
and said I had a *question* about FK. She shunted me to a recording which
gave the the *address* to write to. Okay, no problem, she had just miss
understood me; I called her back and said that I had a quick *question* and
that I did not want to write a letter. She then said that no one was
answering those lines.  So I asked if there was another number I could call;
but she had already hung up on me. Now I was annoyed. I called back and
asked to speak to her supervisor. She promptly hung up on me.

So, I called Rod Perth's office. He was not in, but his secretary was very
nice and said she was sorry for the way I was treated. She suggested that I
call the Human Resources department if I wanted to file a formal complaint.
So, if anyone else has been treated badly by USA, call Barbara Safer of
Human Resources at (000) 000-0000. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for such
rude treatment of a customer! I was not opposed to watching show other than
FK on the USA network, but NOW I am! And I don't feel bad about
complaining. This has nothing to do with FK now, it has to do with common
curtesy and I think that the higher ups would like to know how their
operators are treating their viewers.

Now for the GOOD news. I passed out flyers today! And I finally ran into
two people who actually watch the show!! The first guy was at Radio Shack.
I asked if I could leave a flyer and he hesitated and mumbled something
about company policy. So I told him that I was asking because RS actually
advertises during FK. He was impressed that I knew this, took and read the
flyer, then admitted that he watches the show!

The second person was the city librarian. She totally into the show (she
really did sound like one of US). She took a flyer to post at the library
and then took four more for herself and her friends. I promised to bring
her the SOS-FK stuff that I have and she said that she would definately
write to TPTB as well as the Syndies and the Sponsors! YES!

And then I went and bought a copy of Electronic Media. If you haven't seen
the ad, it looks *great*! Go get a copy! Issue date Jan 22, 1996.

Subject: Re: NATPE bag Fund & EM Ad Contributions : Scams

I have to say that I was absolutely shocked and saddened to see Lana's post
about the mail she's received suggesting that this is a scam. Laurie CF did
us a huge, wonderful, unsolicited favour by fronting the money for the NATPE
bags and the EM ad. Without her financial contribution, there would have
been no bags to give out at NATPE, and no Electronic Media ad to draw the
attention of the media folks. It is obvious from Lana's updates about how
much money has been collected to date, that we wouldn't have gotten the
funds together in time.

As a result, without Laurie CF's financial contribution, the NATPE 7 and the
entire SOS-FK campaign would not have had the effect they did in Las Vegas
and since then.

This is not a scam. I know because I am the proud owner of a NATPE bag, and
a copy of the Electronic Media edition with the advertisement. (Thanks,
Cherri).

No-one is forcing anyone to contribute to repay Laurie. To my knowledge,
no-one on this list has put any pressure on anyone else to contribute.
No-one's name is being published, nor the amount of anyone's donation no
matter how big or how small. Any names or amounts posted to the list have
been placed there by the person who made the donation. I have sent what
money I can afford because I cannot imagine doing anything else. If you
don't wish to contribute, that is your choice. I will neither condemn nor
applaud your decision.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to claim this is a scam. Perhaps,
as has been suggested, it makes that person feel better about not
contributing. Personally, I don't understand how accusing someone else of
defrauding people can make them feel better.

Please do not think that by any of my comments in this post I am in any way
excluding all of those others who have contributed to the campaign, both
financially and otherwise. That is not my intention. Many people have
given of their time and money to this campaign, and I can only add my
grateful thanks and applause to their efforts also.

The individuals who believe this is a scam are the same folks who charge

LC,
If you or anyone else wants to send proof--i.e. photocopy of a check,
please take care--make sure your acct. number is blanked out. Frankly,
people that distrustful are not trustworthy--they may think that everyone
else is as nonethical as they.
Second, you have nothing to prove, so why bother. Your work is valued by
those members of the group who are serious about FK, and truely
understand its subtext. Honor is its own reward.

Well, when I asked if anyone had contacted the TV show Extra, no one wrote
back saying Yes or No, so I went ahead and contacted 'em myself! ;)
Basically, I wrote a very nice email and said, "Hey, did you know there is a
great show being cancelled? Did you know there is a HUGE movement among fans
to keep said show alive? Did you know this would make a great story for your
wonderful program?" Well, I didn't say that exactly, but you can kinda get
the idea. ;)

This is the response I got. Not a promise by a long shot, but hey who knows?
Heck, there's got to be something more than Baywatch they can talk about
every week!! (Maybe if more of us write to 'em they'll get a sense of that
"huge" movement I talked about! Someone send a flyer or a NATPE bag! :) )

I *think* I can do this! I have a couple of graphics programs that I
think can handle this kind of thing. Now what I need is some new pic's
of Vachon! Yes Vachon, if I do it the first one will be a Vaquero
calender. So does anyone have Vachon pics hiding in their hard drives?
Let me know...who knows where this could lead <VBG>.

Okay, here's my body-part-oriented Fantasy FK Calendar. (If ya can't beat
'em, join 'em.)

JANUARY: Close-up of Nick's left sideburn and part of his earlobe; shot
taken through vaseline-coated lens for soft, sensual effect.
FEBRUARY: Close-up of Nat's collarbone draped with pearls.
MARCH: Close-up of LaCroix's upper lip, snearing.
APRIL: Janette's left elbow resting on black velvet.
MAY: Close-up of Vachon's right nostril, flared, revealing manly crop of
        nose-hair (possibly enhanced by extensions).
JUNE: Tracy's brain viewed through a microscope, colorized day-glo green
        and orange.
JULY: The back of Urs's head, hair arrayed tantalizingly on a pillow of pink
        satin, with flowers.
AUGUST: Close-up of Reese's right shoulder blade, oiled.
SEPTEMBER (My birthday month): Nick's teeth with fangs; page contains
microchip which produces "thump thump" sound and hissing noise.
OCTOBER: The hands of Nick, LaCroix, and Janette forming shadow
        pictures on a blank wall.
NOVEMBER: The feet of all cast members viewed through a kaleidoscope lens.
DECEMBER: Aerial view of top of Screed's head, burnished to a brilliant
glow, with sexy green lighting effects.

There. I've made my contribution. When shall I begin production and
distribution?

that FK needs to another series? Or, does he just have extra time on his
hands. I know the actors do bit parts on other shows, but they don't make
any long term commitments because they're needed at FK. Anybody have
information? Am I way outta' line? If so, how?

I realize this is Improbable but it is True: My sister Adrienne
(she's offlist but posts on the usenet bbs now and then) met the Prez and
Chelsea about a month ago and came home mad at herself because she forgot
to ask Chelsea if she was an FK fan.

Carolyn Parker, Programming Director at Ch. 50, has been very
impressed with our SOS efforts -- and her flowers and chocolates -- she
has gotten lots of letters and calls, and actually asked us *not* to send
any more stuff, just letters, because the other folks at the station were
teasing her about the "new BMW in the parking lot..." So I think the
better timeslot is an experiment that is a direct result of SOS-FK.

Subject: Thanks, everyone!

Hello all,

I just want to say THANKS to everyone who responded to my anguished plea
for help as I contemplated unsubscribing from FORKNI-L. I have only been
on the list for about two months, and I've felt like a real outsider.
But, WOW! I received messages from TWENTY people on this list, all of
them encouraging me to stay, detailing the appeals of the list,
commiserating with me . . .

NOW I understand why this group is as it is. Now *I* have experienced
firsthand the community of this group. I am SO impressed. I feel bad
now--I confess to thinking you folks were just a bunch of fanatics who
worshipped *Forever Knight* characters' butts. Thank you all for showing
me so clearly how wrong I was and for being so understanding of my
feelings of disillusionment. I AM STAYING. The people on this list are
worth knowing, and I will even read "butt" posts if that's what it takes
to get to know you. You people are WONDERFUL.

I've got to give special acknowledgments here, okay? Thank you to the
folks who sent me words of encouragement, wisdom, and hope: Laura
(Apache), Laurie Fenster, Jim Smith, Leslie, Jennifer, Donna, Chana,
Barbara ("Muldy Sculler"--I've always liked that name, by the way), Lisa
McDavid, Sherri, Sandra Gray, Dianne DeSha, Katja Stokley, Kelly G.,
Dalton Spence, Jackie, Hugo Trepanier, Cousin Zillah, Anastasia, and
CyFnither Inanna. You people are the best! I'm saving your messages so
I can reply to each of you . . . but it'll take me a while!

Boyohboy, talk about yer warm fuzzies!

Okay, I am now GEARING UP to initiate my very own topic for discussion.
Wish me luck and avoidance of list infractions, okay?

Thanks again, everyone, and I mean it.

Part of a message on FKSPOILR reminded me of something I've been
curious about. In AMPH, Natalie covered for the vampire community
by hiding evidence of killings. But the panic was worldwide, and
there are vampires in other cities. Surely Toronto wasn't the only
place that reckless/desperate vampires succumbed to a
the-world-is-ending-to-hell-with-being-careful mentality. What
happened in Chicago, Hong Kong, Paris, or Rio when victims with
punctured necks showed up in local morgues?

Just wondering...

Subject: A Fascinating New Topic

Okay, as promised, I am delurking to attempt to start discussions on
topics *I* am interested in, since all of my previous excuses for
list-boredom have expired. Now I will admit this isn't a real spine
tingler, but I have to start *somewhere*, and I *do* have another one up
my sleeve that I'm going to post shortly. Meaniewhile (any Beatles fans
out there?):

James Parriot (and I know I've spelled his name wrong--sorry) is producer
and writer of not just FK but also THE BIONIC WOMAN. I learned this on my
very first CABLE DAY, when I finally gave in after 4 years of being
cable-less so I could watch FK on USA. Then, of course, the axe came
down, but that's another story. (My supernatural control over the weather,
tv shows, and when the telephone rings may be the subject of a future
post.) Anyway, I have three questions for aspiring FK analysts and experts:

        (1) What other shows (aside from that Arsenio Hall thing)
                has JP produced and/or written?

        (2) What does FK have in common with *The Bionic Woman*?

I don't know anything about #1, so I'll start with my own inane,
superficial answer to #2: both deal with "people" who possess superhuman
powers but cannot tell anyone about them. Thus the powers make the
characters "special" (and more interesting than normal, garden-variety
humans), but those same powers are "secrets" that separate the characters
from "normal" humans. If we're talking about Jamie and Nick, both
characters are to be considered "good," but if we bring in LaCroix,
Janette, and maybe even Vachon and Screed, the powers aren't necessarily
used only for "good"--they're more ambiguous. That leads me to question
#3:

        (3) What is the overall significance of superhuman characters
whose superhuman powers must remain secret? Why are such
characters so *appealing*, whether or not they use their powers
for "good deeds"? The answer must be able to account for both
"good" and "evil" uses of vampirism as well as for the good and
evil potentials of bionics--which can also be used for evil
purposes . . . The main question (for me) is *why* do we find
these characters so interesting? Why do we like them? Where do
we draw the line when we decide we *don't* like a superhuman
character? To what extent does the "rightness" or "wrongness" of
a superhuman character's use of his/her power determine whether we
like them? Do we like "evil" superhumans? Why or why not? To
what extent is ambiguity itself appealing? Blah blah blah . . .

Okay, now I'm going to head on out for "discussion topic #2," which is
(amazingly enough) related to topic #1. I hope one of these will be of
interest to *someone*! <BG>
