Subject: need episodes?

Since I'm one of the fortunate ones who will still have access to FK on
syndicated stations, I'm offering to make off the air copies for the first
couple of folks who contact me.

Also, for all the folks needing 1st and 2nd season episodes: I'm thinking
of taking a set of first season episodes I have at 2 hour speed (they're not
the original run, they're ones a friend taped for me to replace my originals
at 6 hour speed), making copies of them at 2 hour speed and letting folks
pass them around via mail (or person to person). I'd send them to someone
who could watch them, copy them if they wanted and send them along to the
next person. You would be responsible for the postage to send them along to
the next person!
If that works out well, I'd do the same with my 2nd season episodes (I have
all except THE CODE--first run has storm warnings all thru it, 2nd I was out
of town and the station changed the time.)
So, if anyone's interested in this idea, let me know and I'll try to put a
list together. It'll probably be toward the end of the month before I can
organize it tho.

According to the woman I talked to at KOFY, they were sending someone to
NATPE, but she *didn't* think they would be requesting FK.

On the other hand, she didn't sound like she was too well informed on the
topic.

If it is any consolation my sister and I will be cracking the whip this
weekend to get the multitudes of letter writiers we've comandeered (sp?)
to send letters to sydies...including, but not limited to KOFY.

I wish I was home...raising h*ll is always a lot easier when doing it

OK everyone, you've probably seen the forwarded message from Nick Gray.
We've had an impact -- the cast and crew know how much we appreciate their
efforts. They were *really* touched. But we probably should cool it on
the gifts for now. Don't worry if you've already sent something, or have
it all boxed up and ready to go. If that's the case, go ahead and send it
to the Paragon address. But if you haven't gone out and bought anything
yet, why not send something to TriStar, USA, or your local syndication
station instead? There is still a lot of room for having an impact there!

I talked to someone at the studio today (talk about overcoming
phone-weenie-ness) and warned them that more goodies are already in
the mail, and they have no problem at all with this. They were just
afraid the whole thing would snowball out of control and put a serious
crimp in the production schedule. (And I think they're all afraid of
gaining weight from the chocolate, cookies, etc. that have been sent!)

So consider this a victory -- and it's time to go on to the next phase of
the war! Hit your local station, media contacts, USA, and TriStar! Let
*them* worry about chocolate overload and calorie-laden cookies! :)

A message from the GOODIES listkeeper, who's now out of a job.... ;)

I agree, Lynn. They don't have to stop production for every package that
comes in the door! I assume, as fans, its OK to still send individual items
to whomever we want if we don't do it as a package deal? That way they
wouldn't have to call the group together, if that's what is happening.

not even say a word to me) and I got a recording saying that no one was

again and called Bonnie Hammer at (000)000-0000. The woman that answered said
she would transfer me to Media Relations, and I then spoke to a guy who was

Too bad he was so nice; I so wanted to annoy the guy that had been rude!

Regarding the debate over whether consecration is necessary for a
cross to repel a vampire: It's my opinion that if a someone who believes
in a religious object has owned it, perhaps used it in service of his
faith, then there is a transference of religious energy into the object.
In a sense, that is a form of consecration. BTW: I'm new to posting

Yes, were that the case, any two items placed perpendicular to each other
would repel a vampire. Clearly this is not the case.

I've just remembered something Nick said in an episode way back when... I don't
know the title, but it's the one with Joan of Arc. She asked him why crosses
repel vampires, and he said something along the lines of "Because they remind
us of the One True Light, and vampires must live in the dark." So, it's
possible it's linked to the sun thing as well.

For Lynn, and anyone else who is wondering: it's not that simple. I
had heard, even before this, that work was coming to a screeching halt
at times, while people stood around waiting for the latest installments
of "goodies". Also, the quantities have been staggering. At times,
huge shipments of goodies were being delivered to the set twice a day,
to keep up with the new stuff arriving.

As a result of the USA pullout, the production schedule has been
significantly shortened. Before the pullout, production involved 9
days per episode and 10-14 hour working days. Now, with the cutbacks
(each day of production costs $$$), they are doing each episode in 6
days and working 14-18 hour days. Delivering stuff at the end of a
very long, exhausting "day" which probably ends at like 4 in the
morning, when everyone only wants to go home and enjoy their 6-10 hours
off before they have to go right back and do it again, isn't very
practical. Neither is dumping stuff in a kitchen or common room, where
anyone associated with Paragon, whether or not they have anything to do
with FK, can take it.

I believe the gift campaign was very useful for awhile in that it made
everyone feel important and valued and let them let off steam at a time
when everyone is working doubly hard to maintain the integrity of the
show. (After all, at other productions, I suspect that if they cut the
sched like that, everyone would simply "mail it in" and not work
extra-long days to accomplish what would ordinarily require a longer
time frame.) But, as they say, enuff is enuff. The guys are having
enough trouble as it is, struggling to keep within the new time
constraints and more limited budget, yet still turn out quality FK.

I'm sure Mr Gray knows and expects a few stragglers. He's just trying
to put an end to the flood.

Thanks!

Laurie

I know that they both listen to LC on the radio.

> >Also, has Nick ever *told* Nat that he loves her, in so many words?
> Hmmm, I'll have to back and watch BMV. Anybody else know right off hand?

At the end of one episode (sorry can't remember which) Nick told Nat that
she will never know how much he cares. In BMV, at Nat's apartment, Nick
says that he was driving and thinking about them. While standing by her
window (where LC could see them), Nick asks Nat "what are we going to do
about us?" and kisses her. <thinking back, heavy sigh> I am not sure if
he ever said the words "I love you" to her though. However, in the
restaurant, here is some of the dialogue between Nick and LC:

Nick: Do you think this is about love? This is about survival, LaCroix.
She knows what I am. . . She's been trying to lift this curse. Is it not
in my best interest to humour her, if she happens to have an infatuation
with me?

LaCroix: Hypocracy from you is even more sickening than I expected.

Nick: Perhaps its my logic that disturbs you. I *do not* love this woman.

LaCroix: Then *bring* her over!

If you want to know the rest, let me know. Anyway, from looking at this
scene, it's hard to tell if he is telling LC that he doesn't love Nat in
order to protect her from LC or what? It's a matter of perspective.

> >Has Nat ever told Nick that she loves him?
> Not sure.
I'm not sure either but she has expressed it in other ways.

Hope this helps some. Comments any one?

NO!! Don't do this with Windows 95! It will not work. Besides, the files
mentionned in this other post do not come with Win95.

However, there is a way to change Windows 95's startup logo. The file has
to be a BMP. Its resolution must be of 320x400, 256 colors. You need to
copy your bitmap file to your root directory (C:\, usually). It must be
called LOGO.SYS. You can also change the Shut Down screens with new
LOGOS.SYS and LOGOW.SYS files, in the WINDOWS\ directory. Windows 95 will
load LOGO.SYS each time you turn on your computer, and it will display
LOGOW, then LOGOS each time you exit Windows. And you don't need to modify
any EXE! If you ever happen to want the old start up screen back, just
delete LOGO.SYS from the root. You'll need backups of the other files though.

Don't mess up your Windows! If the instructions are not clear, don't do
anything you are not sure of! E-mail me if you encounter any problems...

I happen to have a few cool graphics I made myself. Anyone interested can
e-mail me privately. I don't have FK-related screens right now, but I'm
working on them. They will be nice if I create them the way I see them in
my head.

Hope this helps Win95 users!

P.S. If YOU made Win95 startup/shut down screens, let me know! And if
you'd like any custom-made start/shut images, I might try to make
them for you!

Whoops. I guess I should go and watch that episode several more
times as penance. Sorry about that... but I think the basic idea is
there, yes?

Subject: FKFIC-L: Reposts

Hi, guys...

(Tentatively, Jamie steps onto the asst.-listowner soapbox for the very
first time...)

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't supposed to be ANY reposting of
stories to FKFIC-L.

If you've made a mistake, if your mailer stripped out all the quotations
from your work (happened to me a couple of times) -- the best way to handle
this is to post a note to FORKNI-L about the problem, and ask people to
e-mail you OFFLIST for copies. Or if it's a multi-part story and the
mistake happened to, say, part 3 of your story, you might tack a note onto
the beginning of part 4.  (Remember: only fiction gets posted to FKFIC;
only spoilers should be posted to FKSPOILR.)

The reason why reposting stories is a bad thing goes back to the fact that
many people pay by the word or the line for e-mail, while others have tiny
mailboxes that tend to go wonky when too much mail pours in, or when the
digests are too long -- and considering how long some of the stories are,
this can be a real problem.

(Jamie steps off the soapbox, fearfully checking the audience for any sign
of flying rotten tomatoes...)

Thanks, y'all. <g>

The conversation so far: (reduced skillfully to four lines as per list
rules <g>)

SLG: >>> was so pleased to see LC's message regarding our effect on NATPE,
JMR: >>Uhm, did anyone else have the same reaction to that sentence as I did?
JMR: >>The mental imagery I got from that sentence does not bear discussion.
LCF: >Hey, Jamie, before I got married, those were my initials!

Yes, but Laurie... you have to try to picture this...

Reading e-mail. Sipping coffee, smoking cigarette. Perfectly normal
occurrence. Perfectly ordinary morning.

I get to that line and read it.

Coffee goes down wrong way; I choke and splutter for awhile.

I read the line again, and nearly choke myself on the cigarette this time.

The mind starts racing: It's a war... it's a real war... a REAL war... war
is real... reality is slipping...
Then: LaCroix posted to the list, and I missed it?
Then: LaCroix posted to the list? I wonder what Nigel thought of that?

Then, verrrrry slowly, the light dawns:

Ohhh! Laurie Cohen...

Yes, I'm easily confused. Please don't laugh at me. Or at least, not too
loudly... or else I'll have to start sending out Mean Fuzzies...

Sorry to send this to the list, but it is the fastest way to reach the small
group of people this is directied towards, namely those of you who have
received prints of 'Glasshouses' and/or 'Shattered'.

I just started the final rendering for 'Memories'... guys this one is touch
and go and could freeze on me at the last minute. I'm expecting it to take
anywhere from 3-4 days to render... Please keep your fingers crossed!!!

Thanks,
Laurie

Of *course* we all had the same reaction! I thought maybe I'd missed one
of Nigel's posts, but then we don't usually make the mistake of mixing up
Nigel and LaCroix, do we? (Nigel's the one who *doesn't* burst into
flames when he goes out into the daylight, in case you were wondering.)

I also think that Laurie Cohen Fenster, a.k.a. LC Fenster, a.k.a. "the
other LC", should be promoted from "Cousin" to "Aunt". That would go well
with "Uncle", wouldn't it? ;)

Subject: Letter from sponsor

Just thought I'd share--when i wrote to Tandy I mentioned that I not only
personally use some of their stuff (which is true) but that I was the
person at work responsible for maintaining our equipment and that I always
buy Tandy because their stuff is affordable, they're conveniently located,
and the stuff more or less lasts given the fact that our equipment gets a
beating practically every single day of the year. This is the letter I got
back from them.

Dear Ms. Himmanen:

Thank you for your recent letter regarding the Television program "Forever
Knight". We are truly grateful for your input. As you probably know, most
shows on television are renewed or dropped based on a number of elements,
advertiser support being only one of those. Obviously, ratings are also
important.

Another major factor is audience loyalty and your letter and others like it
can play more of a role than one might imagine. If you have not already
done so, please contact The USA Network with your thoughts. They will
listen! In the meantime, we are forwarding your letter to them for their
consideration.

Again, than you for you correspondence. Please feel free to write or call
us at anytime with comments or questions regarding the media or RadioShack.
You may reach me personally at the above address or call at (000)
000-0000, my direct line.

Sincerely
Robert L. Quaglia

Subject: Translation of opening

Well, since a couple of translations have been posted, I figured I would
post an Afrikaans translation (as literal as I could make it):

He was brought across in 1228.
Hy is in 1228 oorgebring.

Preyed on humans for their blood.
Die bloed van mense gedrink.
(There is no exact translation for this part; the above means, "Drank the
blood of humans.")

Now he wants to be mortal again.
Nou wil hy weer menslik wees.

To repay society for his sins.
Om die samelewing vir sy sondes te vergoed.

To emerge from his world of darkness.
Om van sy wereld van donkerte te ontsnap.

>From his endless, forever night.
Van sy onafsienbare, ewige nag.
