The first time I saw Tracy in an ep was Dead of Night and so far I'm
not real impressed with her, that doesn't mean I won't give her a chance
though, it just means that I can't see LaCroix with her... yet. As for
younger women not being interrested in older men, booger on that!! I'm 25
and would have no qualms whatsoever about slipping between a couple of
black satin sheets with LaCroix. People aren't old until their no longer
sexy in some manner.
If a similar message to this has already been posted from me please
accept my humble apologies, my computer said that an identical message
had already been sent (unlikely unless I mistakenly sent it twice?) and
I'm a little tipsy off home made wine (sorry, it's white, I didn't make
it). From now on I will check my messages BEFORE I dip into wine.

Old is sexy. What we have are three very desirable men who happen to
be vampires. I agree with Leigh and many others, age and experience are
very alluring, it gives them so much more substance.

There is something very attractive about a very young girl and a man who is
of a wonderful vintage, I say yes, I'd love to see them together. The fantasy
of four in a bed (me sandwiched in the middle, yes I am greedy) is absolutely
divine, but I don't know whether I got that much blood to go around for three
lusty (one with a mean conscience tho...) vampires. Oh I guess there's always
other delights to amuse us all. Hell how am I going to sleep after thinking
about this? Joke: What's better than one vampire? Three! :[
These scenarios could go on forever.

Nope. It swooped (or is that "fooped"?) down just under the arena roof's

Subject: SOS: Local station in my area

Well, a couple weeks back, Lana got an alarmed communication from a
Syracuse-area individual who spoke to Charles Bivins (GM and Programming at
WSYT-TV) and said he told her she was the only person who had written or
called in support of FK. Since then, I alerted the folks I knew at SU, sent
the aforementioned gift basket to Mr. Bivins, and spoke to the nice
receptionist whilst he was out, (probably at NATPE). And the receptionist
*was* nice, which is what makes this so puzzling:

Recently (just tonight, as a matter of fact), a *different* Syracuse-area
individual I know emailed me to say, and I quote:

>Apparently I got a call back from the station that currently >runs FK. My
roommate took the message....said the guy >sounded rude and cranky. That
when a company chooses not to >produce a show anymore, that there is little
they can do.
>
><YIKES>
>
>Did a bunch of us harass him? Or did whats his name just >wake up on the
wrong side of his voice-mail....

That's what I'd like to know.

Is it just coincidence? Has anyone else had a similar experience at their
syndies they can tell me about? And most importantly, if the person calling
back was the actual station manager and not a disgruntled flunky who might
have had to deal with excess letter/phonecalls, etc. , how could I dispel
this image (the crankiness, and so forth?) To make it worse, the person who
had this incident is also a Felicia <G>: he could very well think I'm the
same person calling him again and get ticked off, i.e. "Didn't I already tell
you this?"

How does one convince a recalcitrant or, even, a possibly peeved syndie?
Maybe there were a few people out there in my area who got the news via a
flyer and were *not*-so-nice when they called the station?

"Be My Valentine," a second season ep, is one of the most hotly debated.
Many believe that Nat faked her memory loss. I went up into ecstatic white
hot flames over some of the things Nick said and did; however, the word from
the actors is that BMV was shot quickly and not in a manner they enjoyed.

However, when Nat sees LaCroix in BMV, she indicates that she already knows
who he is.

>Did she ever have occasion to meet him again or discuss him with Nick?

Not unless you count NiQ where they sorta' work together to hide Nick's
secret. Since she and LC are working at cross-purposes, they don't get
together purposefully.

>Also, has Nick ever *told* Nat that he loves her, in so many words?

Imho they didn't get further than necking. This is based on James
Parriott's statement on AOL that in the FK universe, "a woman who tried
to have sex with an FK vampire would find herself pierced above and
below the neck." (Ok, so I got tired of explaining the quote off list.
If this is too strong, sorry. It's what he said.)

Remember, Nick is still a vampire even though Nat was hoping he that if
he didn't know it, he wouldn't have the symptoms. Presumably she was
going on the analogy of the multiple personality case in Hearts of
Darkness. However when Nick went out in the sun he did get burned. So
I think if he and Nat had tried to do anything very heavy, he'd have
bitten her.

Yes, I know he was shown eating some sort of soup. Ger played that
scene with a rather puzzled expression, as though Nick knew something
was wrong but couldn't quite tell what. I suspect Nick threw up the
stuff shortly after everybody left. He wouldn't know it wasn't just
nausea.

Subject: Nat and LaCroix

1. Nat has known about LaCroix since the pilot. We see Nick explaining
to her about LaCroix in Dark Knight, part 2.

2. I don't know how what the script said about it, but Ger said at
the Gerthering last spring that Catherine Disher fought (his word, I
think) to play that scene in BMV as though LaCroix had drugged her.
She considered it necessary since the Canadian version of Only the
Lonely in the first season made it clear that Nat is a resistor.
Btw, Ger said the director had never done FK, didn't understand the
show, and kept trying to make it into an episode of Tales From the
Crypt. He said the cast finally went to the producers and complained.

3. In BMV, Nat tells LaCroix, when he questions her under whatever
the influence was at the restaurant, "beautiful things were said."
She also admits that she was surprised and frightened when Nick told
her he loved her. Imho, the logical conclusion is that she admitted
she loved him, but it wasn't said in so many words.

Ahm, guys? If I can just slip back into ex-assistant listowner mode
for a moment? Thanks. There's a rule here, as on most internet
lists against a sig that is more than four lines long, including
everything -- name, address(es), quotations and artwork. Artwork
means any lines outlining the sig. Space is at a premium on psuvm.
Like all non-academic lists, we're only here on sufferance. Please
don't use extra space like that. When the disk fills up, the sysops
must free it by hand. If we annoy them often, there's always the chance
that they may refuse to host us any more.

and coloring book <g>, published by Special Services. They held a
"name the puppy" contest, collecting names submitted by attendees, and
Nigel got to judge and pick the three best names. (Can't remember what
they were, but at least two of them were blood-related.)

The story was later reprinted in Knightbeat VI. It's called Pet
Peeves, by Renata Johnson. I think she must be a Cousin <g>!

Some choice lines, all from the first page: "It was all Nicholas'
fault of course. It usually was." (The opening lines.)

"You know, LaCroix, you really should get a dog."
"A dog?"
"Yeah, you know, something loyal and obedient to worship at your feet.
After all, I won't be around ALL the time."

"Do you think mortals are any better? Take the changes to your radio
show, for instance. Why settle for intelligent scripts and complex,
entertaining stories? Instead, throw in lots of glitz and sex. Presto!
Entertainment for the masses!"

"Not that Nick begrudged Janette any happiness (OK, maybe just a
little), but what was he supposed to do when she was gone if he needed
clues, contacts, words of wisdom or a little necking? Even Natalie was
making noises about Nick committing to their relationship, instead of
stringing her along. Geez, what did they expect, emotional maturity?"

If you want to see the rest, write to Special Services. Someone posted
the address a few days ago, I believe. The address is also listed on
the merchandise page of Jasmine's website, I believe.

Tell me about it! In the Detroit area, FK is broadcasted 1:00 or 2:00 am,
Sunday mornings and repeated at *4:00 am* Fridays. Nielsens are probably
in bed by then.

I brought a 6-pack of "Old Nick" to one of the FK parties at Karin Wellss'
condo, (Hi Karin!!) for the 2nd season premiere, and really cracked everybody
up when I read the back label on the bottle, which has a line about it's
"BRICK-red color". This made it onto the quote list which should be in the
archives. YKYBWTMFK indeed!

Subject: Calls to syndies

Made another round of calls today, and made sure my calls and my comments
were logged (be sure to do that, particularly about moving to a different
timeslot). WLIG took my name and number. WNYW just logged the call.

Didn't speak at length to either station--they all seemed a bit cranky.
The woman at WNYW said that TriStar is wrong, that while she couldn't be
certain she was pretty sure their representatitve asked for FK at NATPE.

I asked her about moving FK to a better timeslot and she said they probably
wouldn't (that's when she logged my call and comment). Then she told me
that the ratings for something like FK are based on the number of sets on
or something. I think I remember reading once that that's how overnight
ratings are done, but it's kind of fuzzy. I wondered how in the heck
they'd know what you were tuned to, but I guess they might be able to tell
by the frequency of what's being picked up or something. Perhaps someone
with a lot more knowledge than I can expand on this.

However, it occurred to me that one way to get the ratings up (in probably
a teeny, tiny, miniscule way and I'm probably being terribly naive but
anyway . . .), if this is true, is for the people who normally tape the
show to actually sit up and watch it or have it on while they sleep. It's
a killer here in New York, but I do it every weekend and I'm still alive.
In fact, I usually have both sets on.

Anyway, can someone with more knowledge talk about the overnight ratings,
which this woman is obviously talking about. Don't know if TriStar is
talking about the same thing or not, but the people at WNYW seem to pay
more attention to the overnights.

1/29/96 Frustrated NBC Mulls Creating Rival To Nielsen Rating Service

By Elizabeth Jensen
Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal
NEW YORK -- NBC, frustrated with what it says are problems with the
viewership ratings it gets from Nielsen Media Research, is exploring
creating a rival service.
At a private meeting last week, NBC Television Network President Neil
Braun told the network's affiliates that he asked well-respected
research firm Statistical Research Inc. for a business plan for the
creation of a national measurement system that could provide an
alternative to Nielsen.
Television industry criticisms of Nielsen, a unit of Dun & Bradstreet
Corp. and the sole source of national TV ratings, have been mounting.
Last week, Chase Carey, chairman of News Corp.'s Fox Television unit,
publicly attacked the quality of Nielsen's service, calling it
"unprofessional and unacceptable." Mr. Carey said Fox is looking at
everything from legal action that would force Nielsen to improve its
service to bankrolling the creation of a rival.
Mr. Braun said he requested the plan because NBC's researchers,
programmers, advertisers and affiliates "all expressed tremendous
frustration with the Nielsen organization because it is not responsive
to customer needs." He said the network's complaints, which he declined
to discuss in elaborate detail, involved "consistency issues," adding
that, "We want the reliability that businesses need."
John Dimling, Nielsen's president and chief operating officer, said
Nielsen, at the request of clients, has made major improvements in
recent years. The service, he said, "is simply better."
A new venture wouldn't come cheaply: Industry executives estimated it
would cost more than $50 million. If sponsored by NBC or another
network, a rival service could potentially have credibility problems
with advertisers, as well, although Mr. Braun said NBC doesn't want to
own any Nielsen competitor.
Nielsen was left with a monopoly in national and local market ratings
in recent years after two competitors pulled out of the business
because they couldn't find enough industry support.
Westfield, N.J.-based SRI, which is privately held, produces network
radio ratings, as well as customized work for TV, advertising and
telecommunications industry clients. General Electric Co.'s NBC,
Capital Cities/ABC Inc. and Westinghouse Electric Corp.'s CBS, through
an industry group called the Committee on Television Audience
Measurement (Contam), are already working with SRI on a three-year, $27
million test of new ways of gathering ratings. The networks have an
antitrust waiver from the U.S. Justice Department that allows them to
work together on research methodology issues.
The Philadelphia area-test, dubbed Smart, was designed to spur
improvement in Nielsen. SRI President Gale Metzger said the company "is
interested in seeing the real improvements we think we've defined
incorporated in a national service," including Nielsen's. He declined
to say how he would respond to NBC.
Mr. Braun said he hoped the SRI request would "get Nielsen's
attention" and spur changes, "but monopolists don't usually act that
way." He said he expects to get an answer from SRI in about six weeks,
at which point, "I may look at it and say there is no way to make a
business out of it."

Re this whole 1.7 thing. Who's neilsen rating is this? Is this a
combined result of both USA and syndicated stations? Do the stations
have a reading of 1.5 and USA of 1.7 for a total of 3.2? That is the
problem that I see. Just where is this 1.7 rating coming from?
