Concerning the Titanic episode--as the ship was sinking there were other
ship in the area. For example, the Californian, a Leyland Lines ship,
was anchored, just outside the now famous ice flow, for the night. This
ship did not repond to the Titanic's radio calls for help because they
did not have 24 hour radio watch. Sadly, this ship was minutes away.
Clearly, Nick could have flown to this ship.

A second ship, the Carpathia, responded to the Titanic's SOS (at that
time the distress call was actually CQD--the SOS call, now standard, was
brand new). The Carpathia, even sailing at full-speed, which she did,
was 2 hours or so away. Again, with the Carpathia closing the distance
at top speed, here was another chance for Nick to move toward it.

Nick's surviving the Titanic, which he clearly did, without pushing the
plausible is possible.

I'm sitting here reading my e-mail and listening to Luther Vandross sing
"The Impossible Dream" on the American Music Awards.

I'm gonna get mushy, but I can't help but think back to being at NATPE.
While reading all the follow up posts, I got this gigantic feeling of love
and support from all the list members and I'm sure the other 6 will say the
same.

Believe me, it is an experience I will never forget. :)

Well, i can't help you with that, L'Phantom, but interested parties might
try what [Names removed by request]'ve done: there's a public trial version of Net
Toob, a video player, available at the Net Toob website (shoot, i don't
have the address anymore but one may look it up with a 'net search'). It
allows you to use video files, with or without audio, as screen savers.
We used the clips from the Sony FK site.

Disadvantage: this is a trial version which apparently looses some
functions after two weeks. But you can always keep downloading the
original file as long as it's on the site or just save the zipped file
and keep installing from that, i suppose. Ours hasn't run out of time yet
so we'll see.

Subject: escape from the Titanic; Nick's jeans

A while back I saw a good British movie about the Titanic (I think it
was A Night to Remember). According to this flick, there was a large ship
within binocular view of the Titanic after it was struck, but they didn't
have a wireless and didn't realize the ship was in distress. This ship would
have been within Nick's flying range.
Another possibility that hasn't been considered is that Nick could
have taken refuge in the iceberg. With his vampiric strength, he could have
burrowed into it, the cold wouldn't bother him, and if he were below the
waterline, enough of the sun's rays would be blocked that he could probably
survive for a while. Breathing might be a problem (we still haven't
established what a vampire's oxygen requirements are). Also, he would still
be adrift in the middle of the Atlantic, without a food supply. However, he
could wait out the daylight hours and fly away the following night, when
there would be rescue ships in the area.
Nick wore tight jeans fairly often during the first season. The costume
designer that year dressed him in jeans, black leather, and fashion forward
collarless shirts and stuff. I liked that wardrobe better than anything he's
worn since. There was one episode that had an extensive mid-distance rear
view; I don't remember the title.

Subject: Northern Calif. stations info wanted

I am going to a con in San Jose over the Presidents' Day weekend (Feb.
16-19). Most of the people attending will be from northern California (Santa
Cruz to Sacramento). I am asking Lana to make me up a custom flyer to
distribute.
The only station showing FK that I know about is KOFY in San Francisco.
Any of you who have call signs and addresses for other northern California
stations broadcasting FK, please email me ASAP so I can forward the
information to Lana to include in the flyer. Also include the broadcast times
and days if you know them.

Ah, Candice. With an i. Join the club---Diane Echelbarger, Dianne
de Sha, tell her. I CAN'T SPELL PEOPLE'S NAMES. :) There's a couple other
people out there that I've had to apologize to on these grounds. Put it
down to chronic flibbertigibbetness. Nothing personal intended, I assure
you. And this IS a sincere apology. I'm really sorry I misspelled your
name. I should be more careful.

Well, whenever the hypothetical next War is, I vote it doesn't happen 'til
after the Real Life War is over. Priorities are important.

>Hmm..full body armor, eh?

Well, in a metaphorical sense. Let's just leave it at trying to keep myself
in one piece. And really Candice, I'm sure you can think of a better
reason to want my head than one totally unintentional misspelling.

Like, say, the disposition of CERK. :) We (the Mercs) really can't be
charged with what we did last time, we ditched the evidence very
thoroughly, but nothing says we can't have some fun again. :((( Although,
with Jamie currently a *NATPACKER* (why, dear Heaven? Why???) it may be
more difficult for us to do this. And again, priorities come up.

I don't fight with people I'm not getting paid to fight, for instance.
Unless I'm rescuing them from Cousins, or cultists, or... something.

>And you said you didn't want to play?
>...Amazing "our own hands against our hearts"...

I don't recognize the quote but I catch the intent, I think. Sorry if I
misled you, but no, I didn't mean to say I didn't want to play... I just
meant I didn't want to play *YET*. And maybe not in April, either.

May. June. Sometime after I get some sleep... that would be nice.

Keep the address, it won't do you any good for a while---until such time as
I am so firmly entrenched in the control booth at CERK that Uncle can pound
on the glass all he wants, those radio waves ain't going NOWHERE. bwahaha!

Ahem. Sorry. Delusions of grandeur. Getting ahead of myself. You know. :-/

Suspense and an interesting array of subplots. Curious about
detective rank working only nights, or did they get around the

Not suitable for selling at a mere antique store, but he does have in a

Hola tout le monde! I've made it to Cairo where I will be studying for a

1. Would someone update me on what's been happening for the last week or so?
Specifically, I'm interested in posts regarding the NATPE strike force and
Nigel Bennett's post... if someone would send those to me privately.
2. Here I am in Egypt... is there anything I can do here to help out the show?
Probably the only thing I can do is spread the word via IRC or whatever...
although some folks I haven't told yet are back at school...
3. Here I am in Egypt.. anybody want anything?? Most of the stuff here you\
can get in the US, but here it's megacheap..and ubiquitous...anyway...post-

want something bigger, I'll send it to you if you promise to donate some
cash money to the NATPE/EM funds... :) (bribery!!) I may go to Israel or
Greece while I'm here too... so if you want anything from there just tell

The only problem is that Sandie said specifically *not* to write to her for
merchandise. (I think this was before you came up Diane, so you didn't hear
her and I didn't think to say anything, just filed it away.) We offered
repeatedly to get the word out about how to get merchandise & she said she
would let us know (she took a FOFK card), but they were not going to sell FK
merchandise right now so don't tell people to write. SO if you do write
TriStar how about doing us a favor & not mentioning NATPE or Sandie, just
make it an "out of the blue" request. Ask for tapes too! AND A 4th SEASON!!
(After all isn't that what we all *really* want?)

between a *character* who may be throughly dissed, analysed in public, or
generally lusted after without harming anyone and an *actor* who is a real

Yes! When we were getting told not to distribute bags in the convention
center I went to find the "ladies" and found instead the undefended press
room. They had tons of literature on two long tables, but nothing for the
poor, overloaded press people to carry it in. I just happened to be

Laurie posted a very lucid and detailed picture of where we are... I agree,
we may have gone from being a voice in the wilderness to being the "flavor
of the week" at least with the TV industry press.

We have to exploit that now! (don't let it exploit us, use it!)

If we really can get a 4th season we will not only be enjoying new eps for
another year, but we also will have made a fundamental shift in the paradigm
now accepted in the TV industry. It could mean a lot to those lesser heard
shows in the future.

I'd like to echo the steps -- and add addresses

Any kind of publicity can help -Call or write your local paper's
"entertainment" editor -- this has worked for so many people. Tell them
about the campaign, tell them about anything being organized locally or if
nothing else tell them about the NATPE action. Again -- if anyone wants a
copy of the EM article, email me with where to send it.

For some reason I have this cockamamie idea we can actually make a change here!

That was me.

I will, of course, add Coca Cola to my unending queue of "thank you" sponsor
letters. However, I've already donated enough money to that company, and
have no plans to donate more! Yes, folks, I'm down to one DC a day and
proud of it. I think they could amortize the money I've spent over the
years on DC and pay a healthy dividend to their stockholders for the next
25. :)

And all because of a TV show. Soon, NO DC! (After Toronto, I promise.)

Oh, shoot. I never made a fourth season resolution. Hmmm...

Yeah, re-installation works fine. There's another prog called apple
quicktime for windows, it will do .mov and .jpg files just fine and I
haven't run into any expiration probs yet. I've run it under win 3.11 and
95 so whatever PC ver of win you use, you're set. One note, on my old
computer with a 486 DX 33 with 8 MB RAM and an Oak video and SB 16,
sometimes the system would go nuts the next time I loaded windws, like IRQ
on the sound card was wrong so no sound. I haven't had this prob yet in 95,
so it could also be that I now have a P133 and 16 MB RAM so less virtual mem
is being used. But as long as you can find the DOS SB setting files, you
can just keep re-setting the IRQs, the Win ones don't change, it just
conflicts with the DOS settings, but I think that since the files are so
big, they tear up the memory environment. Making changes in DOS involves
re-booting so DON'T shell out of Win to do this, and changing IRQ in Win
involves re-starting windows, so don't do this unless you have everything
you care about CLOSED.

I've been getting several requests for the first or second
season eps at this point. The purpose of the tape tree is to
provide the balance of third season to those who can only see it
through USA in their area. Period.

Sorry if this sounds snippy, but I am not planning to organize
means for you all to get first or second season. Post those
requests to the list and hope for some kind soul to volunteer to
help you. The people contacting me are willing to tape the
balance of season 3. That's all I asked them to do. Please do
not ask me to find the other seasons for you. It's not the
intended purpose of the tape tree.

I believe my reaction was, "yeah... I suppose they could cut out the
Nick-lying-on-the-loft-floor-playing-chess scenes, but... <everything>
else is important!".

I sat there for a minute (DOW2) trying to think of things they <could> cut,
and failed. Then I was informed of the scenes they <did> cut.

Silence while I absorbed the info.

I'm just glad I've always seen the Can. version. From what I hear, the
Euro version (with the possible exception of 'Feeding the Beast')
probably wasn't worth it. <BG>
