Subject: Diet Coke!

Someone will be very happy, because I believe that the escape clause in
their "if we get the rest of season 3" resolution has been engaged.

Who was it again that gave up drinking Diet Coke? The escape clause, if
I recall, was that this resolution would be abandoned if Diet Coke became
a sponsor of "Forever Knight."

Last night at about 2:55am this person's dream came true. At least here
in Philadelphia, the syndicated version of FK had an ad for Diet Coke
just about smack-dab in the middle of the episode. "Just for the taste
of it...." A beautiful ad, really, and I would have run over to grab a
Diet Coke myself if it hadn't been 2:55am.

I think this was one of the national ads, but those in other markets
might want to check their tapes before we let this person off the hook on
her resolution.

Suggested new resolution: the individual in question should call Diet
Coke's consumer information line at 1-800-438-2653 and tell them that
thanks to their sponsorship of such a fantastic television program as
"Forever Knight," she has returned to drinking massive quantities of this
delightful caffeinated/carbonated beverage. And she should get their
snail-mail address and send it to Karen Tobin (ktobin@t.......) or Debbie
Bennett (XFF Raven@a.......), the keepers of the sponsors list, so we can
all write to Diet Coke, too.

And whoever gave up Pepsi (that was someone else's resolution, right?),
find their number and call them to ask why they *aren't* sponsoring the
show!

Bye!

I think I making too much of this. I'll make one more post and drop it.

What we're probably talking about is being able to teleport. It would explain
the sudden disappearance of various FKV's from closed rooms, and the lack of
any resultant air disturbance. As far as I am concerned, Nick teleported
himself out of there, and onto a waiting ship/lifeboat. Again, there must be
a large energy debit to get oneself long distances, but I am not going to
attempt to figure that out.

For those who asked:

The FK Icons you can get from (one of) my ftp sites:

ftp://users.aol.com/CERKradio/stuff/fk-icons.zip

It's a zip file, which means you have to unzip it (WinZip 5.6)

Hoping to maybe put 'em up on the FORKNI-L ftp site soon.

Subject: embarrassing request

Hi, folks --

Am I embarrassed! I never thought I'd be doing this! I'm throwing
myself at the feet of everyone on list....

Due to a problem with my credit card, AOL deactivated my account for part
of Thursday, January 25. (It figures. I donate blood, they deactivate my
account.) I didn't realize this and get it straightened out until about
11:00pm Thursday night, and by then I'd been booted off 2 mailing lists, I
assume for bounced mail.

When I tried to re-sub to FORKNI-L, I got messages saying that the list
was "locked". This went on for two days. I'm completely mystified about
this, but because I didn't want to keep spamming the server, I ended up not
getting back on the list until Sunday evening.

Can anyone send me the digests I missed, or direct me to a site where I
might pick them up??? I'm very, VERY frustrated to have missed the NATPE
updates, Nigel's post (for the second time!!) and everything else. Please
post me privately -- I'm willing to reciprocate with letter ghostwriting  ;-}
, copies of eps (I have 2 VCR's and all of season 2), or, being on AOL
(growl...) I could get the log of Ger's conference for anyone who wants it.
 I'd be *SO* appreciative!! Thanks!!!

PS
NAPTE Strike Team -- I'm in awe. Words can't even express it. I'm so
excited to have been a part of this -- and I feel like such a do-nothing!!
*I* could *never* have pulled off something like this. But I was right
about one thing. You guys HAVE made history. And I *am* gearing up for

Have most have you been swamped with letters from sponsors replying
politely to your own little missives extolling their excellent judgement
in supporting FK ? Until today, the letters I received were pleasant but
indicated that while as sponsors they were happy that I enjoyed the show
and used their product, they themselves could do nothing but wish me well.
Several companies, like Wrigley, have tryed to be helpful. They said they
had no control regarding the cancellation, and suggested "Sending your
letter to the USA network is the most effective way to let the producers
of this program know there are plenty of "Forever Knight" fans in the
audience. You may be interested to know that we've received quite a few
letters like yours, and we wish all of you the best in your efforts to
keep this show on the air." I am happy to say that PIER 1 IMPORTS was the
exception to this rule. The response is as follows: Dear June,

Thank you for your letter regarding Forever Knight. We appreciate your
interest in the programming on which we have chosen to air our commercials.

We have received many letters from viewers who are quite concerned about
the possible cancellation of this show. We share your interest in
keeping this program on the air and have forwarded all of the letters
that we have received to the appropriate party at USA Network.

Thank you again for your interest and concern for taking the time to
share your thoughts with us.

I got about 50 or so more folks writing in to TPTB to save FK! I passed out
flyers with the SOS info on te\hem at a LARP I was at last weekend and a LTO
fo FK fans were there who didn't know the show was in danger of cancellation.
They knew USA didn't have new eps and were watching it on the syndi channel
in our area (NYC) but dodn't know the show was in danger of being NO MORE!

Now they know and we have MORE folks writing in to SOS! I also put flyers in
our local gaming shops. A lot of gamers watch FK - there is a crossover.
I'll be brining SOS flyers to LunaCon and to Gamer's Con in March. I can't
afford to do any Cons in February :( but I hope the local efforts being done
out here in NJ help....

I send in my $ for PAF & the bag/EM fund. Will be giving blood this weekend

being semi-vegetarian will do that if you aren't careful....

I also still have CERK shirts & bumper stickers to sell (all profits STILL go

Imagine the strike force being a regular feature at tv conventions like that.
Fans, actual VIEWERS, people the programmers supposedly cater to, LOBBYING
for their shows. Maybe not in the same manner but a political action
committee (PAC) for shows. It works in Washington why not in Hollywood. What
a concept. It would certainly undermine the Nielsens monolithic hold over
ratings. It would give the TV producers a jolt of well needed reality . It
would give viewers some say in programming. Hmmm. The more I think about it

Submerged for the day -- actually was the explanation that
occurred to me, then I figured he could sneak onto the Carpathia or
something. About breathing.. in Black Buddha, if not before, we saw that
in need vampires can hide from the sun by digging into the ground -- it's
what both Vachon and the Inca did the morning after they were made.

I just found out that somehow I was unsubscribed from FKFIC-L (earlier
this year I got accidentally nomailed on all 3 lists (and no, I didn't do
anything to deserve it)). So if you haven't been receiving any fiction,
I'd check your subscription....

Subject: Religious imagery

Okay, here's my question, and please forgive if this question's been
discussed already (I'm new to the show and to this list), but I was wondering
if there are any FK vampires older than Christianity? From the age list that
was posted recently, I see LC is 1917 (happy birthday, wouldn't you love to
see the fire hazard on that b-day cake?). I was curious, and wondered if
pre-Christian religious symbols repelled FK vampires, a la crucifixes. I
mean, the swastika (not the Nazi version) is 10,000 years old, isn't it? And
do Stars of David have any effect? I don't mean to be impertinent, I'm just
riddled with curiosity! :)

Oh wait, and I have one more question: Is "Urs" short for "Ursula", or
"Ursa", like the heavenly constellation of the bear?

Subject: NATPE / where to write?

I've dropped my check in the mail for the NATPE bag fund. All $50 of
it. <grin> I would have sent it last week, except I lost track of the
envelope. I finally gave up looking for it and sent a new one. So
anyway, that should be arriving some time in the next couple days.

I *again* visited my local syndie, only to find that the programming
director was first out to lunch, then in a meeting. I guess I'll try
to make an appointment to talk to him. I've discovered that if I act
MOSTLY professionaly, and carry a briefcase, people don't think
you're a flake. Might want to think about this, guys. Just remember
to be POLITE when talking to these people.

I actually got to see a copy of Electronic Media - Wooooo! It wasn't
the issue with the advert, it was the NATPE issue with what looked
like a big casino wheel on the cover. I saw the article that's
chewing up the Nielsen system and read it thoroughly, but couldn't
find any mention of FK in it. Is there any in this particular issue?
If so, what's the page number? I searched through it twice.

Now that NATPE is over, is there any specific place to direct renewal
letters to? Is TriStar still the primary target or is it now USA?
(Yes, I realize I need to write to all of them, but I'm wondering
who's the primary target? <g>)

RE: Nick/flying across the atlantic

How long does it take to fly across the ocean? It could simply be
that Nick had to be smuggled by the Constantines simply because he
would not have been able to make it across the ocean before sunup...

As far as Vachon goes, it's been stated that he simply likes flying
by airplane. If he needed to put distance between him and the Inca
before the advent of airplanes, what would he have used, anyway?

My :( was only because we didn't see *more*, not that I didn't enjoy
seeing what we did see. I did enjoy it. :) I wouldn't mind seeing
whatever part of Nick's body they want to show us (hey, I even liked
seeing his forearm in an episode :) ). ;) That doesn't mean though
that I *prefer* the more limited views of him that we usually get.

Subject: Now I'm MAD - keyboard smoking

DESPITE the fact that FK gave FOX 35 in Orlando gangbuster ratings
during sweeps in November (as per SFK web page on Nielsen ratings), I
just discovered today that not only was FK placed back from midnight to
1:00 am, but it was switched in favor of a REPEAT showing of Lazarus
Man, which is shown Wed. evenings at 10:00pm. THIS MAKES ME SO MAD!

However, I *very* politely and sweetly urged the programming director to
consider these facts and at least move FK back to its former midnight
slot. All I can say is, this is one FOX affiliate that seems to be
making room for only *one* vampire show - and it ain't ours! At least
another person told me she called and spoke to the station today (sigh!)
Guess my home-baked cookies weren't all that effective - sorry folks.

That said - we have two other independent stations in town - time to go
sic-em! <Chomp, chomp!> Anybody else in the area going to join me?

I, too, have only seen the Canadian versions. I was not really aware of just
how brutal the US cuts were until I was at Valery's con party in Seattle
last May.

There were about 15 of us in a hotel room, watching Canadian first season
eps. I particularly remember watching 'Only The Lonely', and hearing
everyone's reactions (shrieks!) to the 'extra' scenes. I hadn't realised how
lucky I was up until that point!! I would hate to be the one with the
scissors trying to decide what has to go - this is FK, *all* the scenes are
important! <g>

Subject: Fan-Q Award Nominations

It's time again to nominate your favorite Forever Knight stories, poetry,
novels, and Fanzines for the MediaWest*Con Fan Q awards.

The problem is, all nominations MUST be postmarked by 2/15/96(!) and you can
only nominate on an 'official' form (These forms can be photocopied).

You can send a self-addressed stamped envelope to:
Susan L. Cooper
0000 Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxx
Xxxxxxxx Xxxx, XX 00000

or you can e-mail me and I'll pop a few into the mail for you tomorrow
(remember to enclose your snail mail address in your message).

I also have a list of fanzines, stories, novels, and poetry eligible for
this year's awards, as well as the rules on how to submit, what to submit,
and when you'll get the final voting ballot.

Last year we managed to get enough entries on the ballot to get Forever
Knight it's own section for best novel, best fanzine, and best short story.
With your help, we can do it again.

Questions, requests for the e-mail list of eligible nominees, and other
sundry items may be sent to me.

Regards and thanks for supporting FK Fiction!
When we get a fourth season, the hair GOES.
