I don't understand this remark. Most of the people Nick has brought over have not embraced his attitude that humans are not meant to be vamp "cattle". Also, LC has had his problems with offspring not doing as he's wished too (perfect example being Nick ;) ). >They're either as whiny as Nick (like Serena) or 'uncontrollable' >...and semi-immediately killed by Papa I didn't consider Serena whiny, although I think she was uncontrollable to some extent since she broke with Nick and went off on her own. I think most "newbie" vampires are more likely to be uncontrollable; it's in the nature of being brought over to want to kill a human(s) and sort of let the power go to your head. Despite the fact that Nat's brother Richard was uncontrollable, at first he *was* trying to confine his killing to criminals or criminal supporters. The problem, I think, became that he got high on the power (and the blood) and it affected his judgment. It's also been shown on the show that when a vampire cares about a human (as Richard did his wife), there is a goodly chance of the "bite reflex" being stimulated by the emotional and sexual desires of the vampire. I thought Serena was pretty well-adjusted. She, like Nick, didn't want to be a vampire. She drank bottled blood and worked with mortals without murdering them. I don't think she'd be as adverse to a "fresh" meal on occasion though, and probably had human rather than cow blood in her fridge. She seemed to be doing fine on her own to me. --Sandra Gray, forever Knightie --tmp_harkins@d....... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 18:36:13 -0500 From: patrick kortner aiex <paiex@i.......> Subject: The Important Stuff Gang: Hey! IMHO a well-adjusted vampire is one who wants to be a vampire, who accepts the good and bad points of being a vampire -- not one who only ambition is to be a mortal. IMHO, to say that Serena was well-adjusted is like saying that a human being who desperately wants to be a pig is well-adjusted. I don't think she'd be as adverse to a > "fresh" meal on occasion though, and probably had human rather than > cow blood in her fridge. She seemed to be doing fine on her own to me. Now, y'see, this is the kinda comment I'll never understand. From where in the whole wide episode could you draw the conclusion that Serena would be less averse to a "fresh" meal than Nick? From what part of the episode doe you get even the faintest indication that the blood in her fridge was human? I've just gone back and watched it. It ain't in there. Serena, *UNLIKE NICK* did not know what she was getting into. She *UNLIKE NICK* never wanted to be a vampire. She was disgusted by the whole thing from the start. So I would in fact suspect that she is far more likely than Nick to have avoided killing humans altogether. So I guess she does have better reason to be whiny and mal-adjusted than Nick. Now, before we start to play that endless Knightie: "But he didn't want to be a vampire. He's a good guy. He didn't he didn't he didn't!' Cousin: "He did too!' game, I will say very explicitly what I'm talking about. Nick's Case: Offered vampirism explicitly. Goes off to Near Death Land. Refuses billowy white personage in favor of what LaCroix offers. Wakes up on the (table? altar?) hungry for Janette and verrry happy. Serena's Case: Speaks obliquely about immortality, meaning that she wants a baby, never having any idea that Our Boy has got it all wrong. Wakes up and immediately panicks, horrified at what Nick has done to her. Whoah... this has turned into a completely different discussion. AC Chapin sdragon@g....... http://www.glue.umd.edu/~sdragon ...Actually, I rather liked Serena, probably because she's Nick, but with a good reason for being so whiny and angst-ridden... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 22:31:22 -0500 From: Carrie Krumtum <Carrie400@a.......> Subject: Re: GEMINI Alert!!! Laurie, Well taken by us Yanks. (Well at least this yank). Carrie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jan 1996 21:46:44 PST From: Sherri Lynn Godsey <us011164@p.......> Subject: Here's the poop on HorrorFest I posted the basic info on HorrorFest, from a flyer I discovered while placing Save FK flyers at a BookStop near Collin Creek Mall in Plano, Texas. I talked to Carol Thompson, who is one of the people setting it up. HorrorFest '96 is a *local* affair, nothing huge but something trying to get started so it will be bigger next year. This year it will run one day, Feb. 3, from 10:00 a.m. until (?) sometime in the evening. Carol said sandwiches will be catered in at 7:00 p.m. for people who want to watch the more "adult" horror "classic films" (circa 1959-72), which will be shown later. There will be local horror writers on hand, including Pat Elrod who has written a line of vampire books. And dealers and some panels (which will begain at 11:00 a.m.) *No*, there will not be any FK cast members there. This isn't that big, and its not an FK funciton -- its a horrorfest that will have some vampire items simply because vampires are a horror concept. I'm going to see what its about and to put out a goodly batch of FK flyers, as well as to talk to people about FK who might not already know... I thought it would be fun for FKers from the area to show up, together or not, and make certain people hear about FK. Also, we would get a chance to meet and visit, and I think a horrorfest would just be a fun Saturday. Carol is hoping to have it up to a 2 day run next year. And I'll ask again, just in case -- she's looking for someone with a background in special effects who might want to do a panel or demo or something for this event. So, hope I see some of you local folks there. *If* you want to meet there, let me know. Sherri P.S. Felicia, my name is Sherri, not Susan. But thats OK. I went to a camp years ago where my name was misspelled on the name tag, and I spent the whole weekend being called Shessni. Susan is better;-) **Sherri Lynn Godsey, Founding Member SFKS. us011164@p....... -- "Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends" in Forever Knight. SAVE FK! The SFK home page has been averaging about three hundred hits per day. Which is impressive. As far as I can tell, it's had 640 hits in the last 24 hours. Which is STAGGERING. That's what Toni's exploits at the Tri-Star reception (placing the FK flyers everywhere) reminded me of. Hoping my memory of this exploit is accurate and more importantly a good omen... It seems to me that keeping an untied front might be the perfect way to convince our local affiliates that a fourth season of FK would be a good thing. Or possibly even TriStar. Considering that there was a significant percentage of the list that was apparently willing to get arrested if it would keep FK alive, it seems to me that this would actually be a less extreme alternative. -- KEEP THE FAITH!
