Sorry if this is posted twice but I had a feeling that it didn't post the first time around. I just thought you guys might want to see this. When Ms. Norat-Phillips responded to Jane S.'s letter, she didn't really answer the question about a 4th season so I gave it a try. I think she answered the question this time, but I'm not really sure if I'm interpretating it properly. I think she's saying that WKBW wants to air a fourth season, but she doesn't really come right out and say it. Her answer was a bit ambiguous. Anyways, the respnse to my letter is below. My comments are in the sqaure brackets. Oh! I wrote back asking her to *ask* for it at NATPE. Hope she does! [Uh oh!] As you know we have a contractual agreement to carry Forever Kight until the end of August [That means the rest of the 3rd season, at least] and we are planning to honor that commitment as long as the show is delivered. [I'm interpreting this as they want to keep airing FK. Does this mean a 4th season as well...what do you think?] Hiwever, if there are no original episodes being produced I'm sure Columbia will not offer it out again in syndication. I know we're all tired and busy, we all feel like we've *done our bit*, but it is VITAL that we keep the pressure on for another two weeks at least. The most important thing we can do at this point is GET THE WORD OUT. Each of us cares deeply about Forever Knight, but each of us is only one person. We, as individuals, can only do so much. Writing letters is important, but EVEN MORE IMPORTANT is letting other interested people know what is happening with Forever Knight and trying to involve them in the process. We are now, I believe, doing a fine job of letting the Internet community know what is going on. We now have liasons for AOL, Prodigy and Compuserve, as well as all remotely related newsgroups, and links to the SOS FK website from practically everywhere including virtually all the search engines. BUT there is a larger world out there, beyond the Internet, and we MUST get our message out to them. IMMEDIATELY. Suppose, instead of writing another letter, you create a text flyer or ask someone on the list for one of the Save FK flyers that have been created. You post that flyer at your university bulletin board. You take that flyer to your local comics or gaming store. Perhaps you even print up some flyers and leave them at your Barnes & Noble monthly science fiction club meeting. Perhaps 50 interested people find out this way who otherwise might not have known. Perhaps ten of them are motivated to write letters, or contribute to the charity drive, or call their friends and let them know. Because of your one afternoon's effort, and how it can multiply, perhaps several thousand people will find out what we are doing and a few dozen will join the cause. Multiply that by several hundred of us, all doing the same thing, and we are LEGION! We KNOW there are lots and lots of unidentified Forever Knight fans out there. (I found out, to my surprise this past weekend, that one of my inlaws is one of those fans!) We must find them, show them to the powers at TriStar, so they know Forever Knight is worth continuing. None of us are alone. Each one of us lives in a town, in a city, at a university. We have friends and family. Some of us have access to public bulletin boards (not the virtual kind). Many of us work in offices. Most of us live in communities with comic book and gaming stores, with local science fiction clubs. Many are at universities, which often have science fiction and/or fantasy clubs, as well as boards for students to post items of interest. Many of us live in cities with science fiction stores like Forbidden Planet and Jim Hanley's universe, The Science Fiction Bookstore, and numerous other locations which are logical sources of Forever Knight fans. We need to hit these places. Put up posters, flyers, info about FK APPRECIATION WEEK and how they can participate. Leave piles of flyers if the stores permit it. If you know someone with a science fiction or vampire type club, ask them if they will notify their membership. Has anyone contacted Jerry Ohlinger, asked to leave flyers at his place? Has anyone contacted Special Services, which distributes Forever Knight merchandise by mailing list, and asked if they will apprise their customers of what is going on? Some of us are attending conventions this weekend. Some of us are throwing Forever Knight parties. Those conventions and parties MUST be places where the word is spread, where SAVE FK activities take place. Particularly this Sunday, the first day of FK APPRECIATION WEEK, which is TriStar/SONY appreciation day. THERE IS NOT A SINGLE PERSON ON THIS LIST WHO CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY! Go to a SONY/Tristar movie. Buy a SONY videotape. RENT a SONY/TriStar movie. And tell your friends/family to do the same. THEN, send your receipts to Lana Soward's PO BOX, so we can send them all, en masse, to Tri/Star, so they know we're out here. If they get five receipts, they're not going to care. IF THEY GET 500 receipts, they might perk up their ears. If, by some miracle, they got 5000 receipts, they'd jump to attention. Miracle, I say, but if each one of us passes the word to only a handful of people, it COULD happen. IT IS ESSENTIAL that each of us is thinking, all the time, of how they can help spread the word and garner more support for our efforts. I can think of no worse fate than that we get the publicity we crave from the media only to see the whole thing fall flat because no more than five or ten of us actually participate in anything. Together, we CAN do this thing! In business we take people to lunch for marketing purposes, and we're certainly marketing FK. Not just one person, but several FK fans together so it wouldn't seem like a single fanatical fan? I think people react better if you meet them on a face to face basis -- we've been doing lots of phone calls and letters, but maybe a direct "confrontation" would prove worthwhile. Let them see we're average people. Ask how the system works (even if you know, pretend you don't so they can talk about themselves and their job). Just a thought. Maybe there isn't enough time before NATPE? Even if a program director wasn't open to lunch, it might not be a bad idea to make an appointment and drop in for a visit, just to say hello and express in person your happiness at having FK air on their station. That would be an opportunity to really emphasize the need to *ask* for FK at NATPE. Couldn't hurt. Got to close down. I'm off to Seattle in the morning and its almost midnight! Pains me to go nomail even for a few days! Think I'll digest Forkni-L and hope its not too much for my mailbox to eat for 3-1/2 days. Keep going gang. I'm proud of you all! I'll be writing postcards on the flight; will fax TriSTar next week; and I even passed out a "please help us write a few letters" to people at work (this is a very conservative office and its not easy to find FK watchers there -- however, several people promised to do a few letters; better than nothing). Although Nick is originally French, I can't quite visualize him using that phrase. Before we condemn the French for naming their loved ones after vegetables, remember that many regional Americans call their beloveds "punkin". I'm not sure why that's considered acceptable, when you can't really call your one-and-only "zucchini", "acorn squash" or "Kohlrabi". Well, maybe if you're Neelix... To whomever did the logo in pict. format, and the folks who have done the flyer text, BRAVO!!!! My official Save FK flyers look GREAT thanks to you guys. I wanted to mention one small change I made, based on the idea that the easier you can make things for people, the more likely they'll do what you want 'em to: Under the local affiliate part, I substituted our area station's address, phone and fax numbers, and the name of the programming manager for the generic bit about "calling your local station." Oh--Wrigley's was the first sponsor to reply to my letters, and they were *so* nice. Excerpt from Wrigley-person: "...as a long-standing policy, we have always done whatever we can to make sure our commercials are placed in or adjacent to television programs that offer high-quality entertainment, so we're glad to know 'Forever Knight' is a favorite with you... we've received quite a few letters like yours, and wish you all the best in your efforts to keep this show on the air." Will update it to contain important info (thanks to the person who found the recent article about the USA part of the syndie twofer-deal gone bust in *Variety*; could they please re-send me, privately, the confirmation article so that I could quote it in the FAQ?) as to our new campaign slant.
