I JUST WON THE CALIFORNIA LOTTERY!!!

WOW! WHEEE!!! YIPEEE!!!!!!!....

...okay, so it was only 4 of the 6 numbers. Picky, picky, picky... So, I
won't be financing FK *this* season, I suppose. Still, it's nice. It's money
I didn't have to work for. And in case anyone's interested, two of those
winning numbers were ( I am *not* making this up ) 12 and 28. ( insert theme
from The Twilight Zone here )

Just call me "Lucky" ( on second thought, *don't*, it's an idiotic name ),

Just a few word about how things went.. First of I'm proud to have worked
the crowd with Diane (LuDia), her children Marshall and Tory, and last
but certainly not least, Elisa (fuja@p.......) We found out that fans
who are not online were totaly unaware of the cancellation. In fact we
heard repeatedly that USA had "just" picked up the show. Diane had the
flyers made up on red paper with black lettering, so they stood out in a
sea of black and whites very nicely. As we didn't have a table, we had to
use a little imagination. That meant reaching people as they got off the
elevators on the 18th floor, working the auditorium, the autograph lines,
the dealers rooms. Diane was VERY impressive in the elevator, whips go
over well at a horror convention :> We also got down on our knees to
SOS, but only Diane crawled all the way down the corridor. It's a good
thing she loves her SO, cause the guys were REALLY taken by her
"creativity". A number of the Con guests are also FK fans and were also
unaware that the USA ax had fallen. They offered to help. I hope this
all translates into letters. My guess is that we handed out about 500 to
600 flyers, and left the rest on the freebie table. One more thing
before I go, in a further effort to make sure EVERYONE who attended got a
flyer, Ms D removed the petty flyers of lesser causes and replaced them
with the superior product that we had graciously made available. IT WAS
A VERY COUSINLY THING TO DO

I'm so excited!!! I just got off the phone with the "WFMF House
Party" dedicating "The Devil Inside" by INXS to, "the cast and crew
of the show 'Forever Knight' which is in danger of being
cancelled." The DJ asked if everybody should go out and buy
tickets to see the show and I said, "No," it's a television show.
Late night, like during the time of "House Party." Anyway, if you
get this radio show, listen for me. Hopefully, they'll play my
dedication and people will respond.

I guess I don't understand the vow business either. Why are we planning to
torture ourselves if we do a good job and the show gets renewed? (or
prolonged)
Give up chocolate? Give up coffee? Give up sex? Huh?

I never understood that thing of "I'll do this if you do this..." I know
it's fun to talk about it etc. but I still don't get it.

I'll do whatever I can personally to save the show. Write letters, send $,
make donations, send and pick up virtual postcards, spend mucho tiempo here
online, talk it up to people and make phone calls. And if it all comes
together - and I really think it will - and we get some more FK, then let's
celebrate! Have a virtual party! Play some virtual music! Watch some FKs
and feel *real* good and happy. But why the deprivation stuff? Unless, of
course, you want to. And if that's the case, do it anyway! And if it's
something good for you, like exercising or dieting or not making rude
remarks to the TV set while watching a least-liked episode, then do it
anyway! If not, I hereby give you all permission to have sex or not have
sex, eat chocolate or not eat chocolate, drink coffee or not (but not with
flies in it!) etc. (I know y'all just wanted my permission - <g>)

Laura wrote:

Yeah, that's it, I think. Fight the Good Fight and all that. Shine where
we are. etc, etc. IMO, the connection between list members is as important
as the show itself. I found this out during and after the Starman campaign
many years ago. That fandom still exists, has a family-like relationship
between members, cast, crew, etc. and is still well respected in the
industry. It's also famous (as we are) for charitable donations, lots of
good will, excellent organization, intelligent and fun-loving members and a
sense of class.

As for me, I'm starting my exercise program cause my physical body is
saying "gimme some good attention."

Now if we get a fourth season..........(just kidding)

Looking forward to those new eps!

Good will to all - forgive the preachiness, guys. It's a symptom of
holiday reruns.

How interesting but strange I find the concept of causing oneself pain or
discomfort as a payment for something good received. Now please, don't be
offended by my ignorance -- I'm not saying that sacrifice is good or bad,
right or wrong -- its simply alien to me. ;-)

In contemplating this latest trend on the List, I suddenly realized *why* I
don't get it: I'm a *Ravenette*! Would my leader, Janette, practice or
approve of such behaviour from her followers? I think not!

So this set me to speculating about how the characters in the FK universe
would feel about making personal sacrifices in return for getting something
they wanted:

Janette - Knows quite well that Luck and Fortune come to scum as well as to
good people, so there's no logic or need to hurt oneself -- doing so won't
make a difference. However, she appreciates any gifts by anyone and
expresses that through loyalty to the giver. In turn, whoever receives from
Janette had better appreciate it!

LaCroix - Would see self-sacrifice as one of those amusing human things. ;-)
Practice it? No way! Approve of it? Of course. Especially if he got to watch
or (better) actually administer the torture.

Nick - "Self torment" *is* Nick. Why say more?

Natalie - Would consider this nothing more than superstitious behaviour. She
would recommend analyzing why the good thing happened in the first place so
that those conditions could be duplicated and built upon when needed.

Schanke - Wouldn't hesitate to promise giving up something or doing
something unpleasant in return for a blessing or favor. However, not being
good at self denial, he would slip up quite a bit, then try to hide that
from others, especially Myra.

Tracy - Would readily do whatever is popular, and might solicit others to
join in a group effort. However, she'd probably then go off on her own to
find a better sacrifice that got more attention and approval from daddy.

Vachon - Not interested. No opinion. Would not ever consider making a
sacrifice himself and would put a lot of energy into running from it. His
response if someone made a sacrifice for him: Hey, I didn't ask you to do it.

Reece - Would gladly do it as long as the Commissioner knew and approved.

Cohen - Before making any decision, would want a thorough report immediately
on the good thing that supposedly happened and recommendations on
appropriate sacrifices for it.

Stonetree - ??

Urs - Definitely into self-sacrifice, to the extreme of contemplating the
ultimate. However, she's not quite sure why. Urs doesn't appreciate anything
given to her because she's hasn't a clue as to she wants.

Screed - Would do it only if you paid him.

Subject: Cast horoscopes

I just started reading this list, and I am *stunned* by the amount
of dedication, effort, and ingenuity you all display in keeping this show
on the air. Now I know who to thank for Forever Knight's run to this point
in time, no matter what happens next. (In fact, I think that if you put
your heads together, you could come up with a way to *buy* the show -- or
at least start a production company! =)
I noticed a reference to an earlier post that had given birthdates
and times for the cast members. I've recently become interested in
astrology, and I would really appreciate it if someone could e-mail that
post (or the birthdays and birthtimes if someone knows, and I have no doubt
you do). Particularly, ah, um, stutter, blush . . . Ben Bass's birthday
and time. (My vow to the forces of tvland was to delurk and utter these
words in public. Yes, I am a newly christened Vacquera.) Further blushing
. . . and any other information about him would also be greatly
appreciated. Whew! I said it.
Thanks very much in advance for any help you can give me. I've got a
nifty astrology computer program that shoots out natal charts in a matter
of seconds. Maybe I can take a stab (whoa! wrong choice of words *there*)
at guessing the future of the show. Hey -- if I had the day and time of
the "birth" of the show, I could run off a chart for FK itself! It'd be
really interesting to see if it reflected the show's ups and downs. But I
am, alas, also a newly christened astrology buff, so I can't really claim
to be able to offer a thorough interpretation of any chart. Thanks again,
and keep up the wonderful work you're all doing! Sally

I represent a client who has placed this matter into my hands with
no further information than that she "used to know this really nice
person" at your address named Lisa Anne Prince. I would be most grateful
if I could engage your assistance in a small matter involving the
aforenamed Ms. Prince. My client informs me that no one has really heard
from her since oh, about nine o' clock on Saturday the sixth of January,
1996. She was last seen somewhat earlier that evening, settling down in
front of a television set with the remote control in her hand, punching in
the channel numbers for cable television's USA Network.

Has Ms. Prince by any chance left a forwarding address with you?
Foreseeing the need for relief of severe mental distress, my client had
reserved a room for her at Bellevue, with its world renowned psychiatric
inpatient service, but Ms. Prince seems never to have gotten there.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance in this matter, I am

Sincerely yours,

Subject: Comments on a TV note, Dallas paper

Was reading the Television section in the Dallas Morning News Thursday and Ed
Bark (to whom I sent a letter last week but haven't received a reply yet) was
writing about how the various television stations are doing. Basically he's
discussing prime time and how good or bad the "sweeps" are. He says ABC is
down without Monday Night Football; NBC is on top; CBS is badly down; Fox is
losing viewers; and UPN and WB are still in diapers and an infinity away from
playing with the big boys. His comments are:

"The midpoint of the 1995-96 television season finds everyone but NBC
counting his losses. Why? Too many "Friends" clones. Too little regard for
the older viewers. A lackluster November "sweeps". The demolition of the
"family hour", where "smart" adult comedies now dispense double-entendres
form 7 to 8. *Handfuls of would-be-viewers addicted to the Internet
instead*." Ummm -- does he mean *us*? What does he mean -- only "handfuls"?
I like to think we're a "good sized crowd"!

Anyway, he goes on to say "Having fouled their own nests, commercial network
presidents now say they may have gone too far in their pursuit of
advertiser-craved 18-49 year olds (I haven't noticed them pursuing *me*
lately!). They also regret the demolition of the family hour. Such mea
culpas may be too little, too late to recapture many of the viewers who were
told to get lost and did."

Interesting. I haven't noticed any of the network presidents asking us what
we want, have you?

Comments?

Assorted Ramblings

On Geraint Wyn Davies name:

The copyrighter probably went to a name-the-baby
dictionary which gives the pronouncation as "Jer-ahnt" -- this is
because the name is more commonly known (to those of us who
actually go out and read *books*) through the Arthurian legends.
Geraint is one of the younger brothers of Gawain (also pronounced
both Gah - WAYNE and GAH - win) who murders his mother, the
Queen Morgause when he catches her in bed with the younger
knight Lamorak.
The pronucination "Jer-ahnt" is the French attempt at
pronouncing a Welsh name. Since it was Queen Eleanor of
Aquitaine (wife of King Henry I of England) who took the old
Welsh tales and legends and gave them to her balladeers to
"romanticize." She did this because her husband had forced a
separation on her so he could go play footsy with Fair Rosamund.
She also gave the world the character of Lancelot, the
knight who seduces Arthur's Queen -- probably to make ol' Henry
wonder just what *she* was up to.
Personally, *I* intend to call him Mr. Davies if not Sir.

On Perkulators:
Probably a better name would be "Veterans" because of all
the nasty shots that get taken at them. Some of you people are
just plain *mean*!

On Spam:

from "The Great Taste of Spam" -- distributed free by
Hormel foods.

      SPAM NACHOS
1 ten and 1/2 ounce bag unsalted Tortilla Chips
1 can SPAM luncheon meat cubed (small as possible)
1 15-oz. can unsalted Refried Beans
      1 16-oz. jar salsa (I prefer HOT)
1 8 -oz. package shredded jalapeno cheese *optional
1 8 -oz. package shredded mild cheddar

Heat oven to 425 degreesF Place chips on baking tray
Sprinkle SPAM over chips. In bowl, combine refried
beans and salsa. Pour over chips. Sprinkle with cheese
Bake 6 to 7 minutes until cheese is melted. Serve

a local Scifi club last night in hopes of gaining their support. Thought
you might like to know what happened. :)=

Well, the topic of discussion was 'Predictions for Scifi shows for the
New Year'. They went through several shows, Star Trek, American Gothic, etc.

The woman next to me suddenly said: 'What about FOREVER KNIGHT?'. So, I
stood up and did my spiel, what was happening regarding USA, who we were,
etc.

Later, the woman asked for my address and phone number, so I could send
her the info, and we started talking.

Seems that she had just been introduced to FK via her daughter and
enjoyed it immensely.

It also seems that her daughter doesn't watch much t.v. and FK is about
the *only thing she'll watch*.

So, we have one extra member for the crusade. :)=

I'm going to start snail mailing her stuff ASAP.

This woman is also the editor of the club newsletter. I don't know if an
article would help, though, as the next issue will come out in April,
and this may all be decided by then. Although, It might help with getting
a forth season.

What do all of you think?

LONG LIVE THE KNIGHT!! :)=

Subject: Those other newsgroups

I was thinking... we want to spread the word as far as possible,
right? Now, I know a bunch of people have been doing a good job
getting the news onto the "fellow traveler" newsgroups -- the sf,
gaming, and vampire-related groups. But there are hundreds of other
groups out there with untapped potential.

I'm NOT suggesting that we break nettiquette and anger people by
posting off-topic all over the Net. But how many of us are lurkers
in newsgroups that may not yet have heard about The Crisis? If
everyone would de-lurk just once in one of those newgroups, we could
cover a lot of territory. Just post one message that's ON-TOPIC for
that group, and sign it with your "Save FK .sig". Who knows what
latent FK fans are hiding out there in rec.sport.baseball or
comp.lang.ada?

While some folks may disagree with me, I'd say that it isn't so bad... if
you're hungry enough. I have been, so I know that for which I speak.

It was a very Mercenary thing to do. :)

Subject: Postings and Limits

Guys, I'm already catching little pieces of flak for all the digests that this
list is generating. PLEASE obey the following two netiquette rules...

1. Only include those portions of notes that you are replying to.
2. Try to limit yourself to 3 posts per day and eliminate any "me too" type
   posts.

Subject: PLEASE READ: List rules reminder

Hi, I'm a former assistant owner of all three lists, reposting something
from a couple of months ago. Now that we're generating several digests,
each more than 1,000 lines, per *day*, it's even more important that
we follow these guidelines. Thanks and a low bow of gratitude to everyone
who's leading the struggle -- Lisa McDavid

----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Jaye asked me some time ago to post a reminder about the rules for
the three FK lists, so here goes. As Stonetree told Nick in Cherry
Blossoms, these are not suggestions.

1. Please don't quote more than four lines of a previous post in answering
or commenting. This means per point answered. If you are answering more
than one point, then you are allowed another four lines. If you can't
make yourself clear with just four lines of quotes, paraphrase.

The previous poster's sig file should not be repeated. Just say at
the beginning of your quote who you're quoting.

2. Please don't use a sig that is more than four lines. This includes
*all* names, addresses, ascii art, and quotations. Asterixes and other
punctuation surrounding a sig file count in the lineage.

3. Please don't post discussion of any aspect of an episode which has
not yet been rerun to Forkni-l. That's what the spoiler list, Fkspoilr@
psuvm.psu.edu, is for.

Note: it's not necessary to put spoiler lines on Fkspoilr posts, but
it is necessary to put Spoilers: <ep. title> in the header. This is
because some mailers don't tell users that mail is from the list,
but give the original poster's name instead.

4. Please stay on topic. The lists are for FK, not vampirism in general
or other shows unless the vampires or the other shows have something
to do with FK. FK cast or staff on other shows is on topic, fortunately.

Here's why we have these rules:

Some people have limited mailer space or must pay per message
or even per line. Others are on digest and don't want to have to page
past repeated posts. There is a disk at psuvm which holds all the days'
posts for distribution in the digest. This disk fills up *fast* when
we have a lot of long quotes and sig files. When the disk is full, the
list is held. It stays held until a sysop at the site can correct the
problem. Like all non-academic lists, we are only at psuvm if we don't
cause extra work or problems -- filling the digest disk definitely
does both.

Thanks!

I noticed that also and was tremendously impressed. Lots and lots of
inside sources and organization going on. I'm trying to get my letters
written.

Could someone send me a copy of the response from Hormel? I seem to have
missed it in the great deluge.

Now... while I can (sometimes) differentiate fantasy from reality, when I
read this, all I could picture was *Uncle* in his black suit and leather
coat and sword pin, fully vamped out, eyes glowing like headlamps,
rollerblading down a hill at full throttle, bearing down on some
screaming victim.

We don't want TriStar to change its contract, so I personally feel
like we shouldn't alter ours. Just me. Give the disc to charity? Trade
it with someone? Uh.... destroy it? You know, fulfill the vow and then
do what you want?

Listen, I'm gonna be founding -- and maintaining -- a Lisa Ryder

a newsletter.... it boggles the mind.
Maybe a nice vampire like Vachon or Nick will do for me what he
does for Tracy, and save my ass at the last second.
