No, not so. After USA came into the picture, I believe TriStar changed the terms of the deal with the syndies, and ultimately, FK achieved over 90% clearances (coverage in syndie markets). Word to that effect was printed last summer in Electronic Media. (I remember posting it to the list, in very sarcastic fashion.) >I think TriStar may be losing A LOT of money making the rest of the >season. TriStar is losing money largely because USA pulled out (though they're mitigating by making the eps more cheaply). I heard something interesting tonight, which *may* explain a lot. Remember how TriStar had invited Ger to attend NATPE to promote FK, and then told him not to bother coming? We all thought it was because the syndies were unhappy with the sweeps numbers, but what if it was because USA had begun making its noises about pulling out? After all, if TriStar hadn't been hearing reasonably positive noises from the syndies, they probably wouldn't have asked Ger to attend in the first place. A friend of mine with industry connections told me tonight that Telemunchen wasn't the only party demanding 22 eps; a number of the syndies were as well because FK is drawing decent-good numbers. (Figure Dallas is probably one of these.) Verrrry interesting, if true, but it makes our task that much harder: replacing the USA money. NOT an easy task. We'll probably never know the truth, but it is interesting to speculate... >If we could get more coverage for this season, maybe TriStar would >consider another. It's a good thought, but, as I said, FK already has 90%+ clearance. It's just not on advantageous (for TriStar) terms, since they were counting on USA money. And with that gone... (The Illustrated Webgoddess raises her hand to speak) Yes, he does. So do I. Don Fasig and I are the official "Listjanitors" -- that is, we sweep up after the parade, i.e. altering subscriptions when necessary due to BOUNCES or other technical problems. Jaye bestowed this limited authority upon us just before we got The News and everything went berserk, so it's no wonder you missed the notice. We're not listowners, Don and I: we don't set policy or any such thing, we just fix some of the worst problems so that Jaye and Laurie S. don't have to. (Well, Don does most-to-all of the fixing. My provider seems to have some sort of 'spam filter' preventing me from getting the bulk of the bounce notices. I'm still trying to work that out.) If you were set to nomail, it means that your list mail was somehow being bounced back to the listserv. This might indicate a temporary problem with your local provider. Usually, the remedy is to simply set your subscription back the way it was. If this is something that keeps happening repeatedly, then a bit more troubleshooting is in order, obviously. Either way: for anyone getting one of those notices, all it means is that there is a Technical Problem of some sort, and we/Don, your friendly hardworking Listjanitor, is giving his all to keep the list running. Please, don't think it's anything personal! Believe me, it's not! :-) Hope this clears up any confusion. -- -----<faith!>----- Jamie M.R. --The Illustrated Cousin -- Mercenary -- SFK WebGoddess Save Forever Knight! -- http://members.aol.com/CuznJamiMR/SaveForeverKnight.html *** WAR #6: THIS TIME, IT'S PERSONAL *** "I hope you'll pardon us if we continue to crusade." -- Jaye the Red ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jan 1996 01:10:35 -0500 From: Jill Lundberg <JLDolphin@a.......> Subject: Re: Giving up smoking and coffee For all you people out there in nicotine and caffeie cravings and withdrawal, just look at it this way: Now you can more closely identify with Nick, because you'll soon know how he feels not being able to satisfy an unbearable craving. <vbeg> Jill Lundberg, Knightie, Nick&NatPack, Defender of Vachon JLDolphin@a....... Why am I so happy, beside the fact that there will be 22 eps this weekend? I'm happy because I'm using PINE again... wonderful, beautiful pine...pine that will let you postpone...pine that will keep your read mail forever but not clutter up your HDD... pine that will tell you when your mail was addressed to you or sent on a distributed list... oh happy, happy am I! I think, in fact, that if this goes well, I will be unsubscribing from the list on AOL and having it all come here!! AOL that is eating mail and unfun things like that. But that's not what you care about.. and I'm wasting bandwidth, but I'm so happy. Thought #1... just e-mailed myself the Sony web page, and then I noticed that Tracey is a 25-year old cop. So, as she said in MBIAV, she'd been in uniform for 5 years. She got out of the academy at 20. How long does it take to get out of the academy? Anyway... does the academy count as college? I mean can you take algebra there if you want? If not, that's pretty interesting. I mean I guess that's normal for a cop, but I hadn't thought about it before... do you think she'd ever want to go to college later on in life? Do you think that she might one day regret doin' the same thing her dad did? Thought #2... some Nat-Packer vow, and I forget whose, really made me sad. All of the vows were either healthy choices, or silly or tormenting vows. But someone swore that they wouldn't ever watch Only the Lonely again, and I think that's a sad vow. I mean.. so that I can watch more FK, I will not watch FK. Do you think if we all said it was okay this Natpacker could qualify her vow and say.. no more than once a month or year... or not for the next 3 months? I don't think anyone should have to give up FK on behalf of FK... I don't think the promise gods would be upset about that... it just makes sense, right? Thought #3... I love pine Thought #4... in 2 weeks, I will be heading to Rome, then Cairo to study Egyptology. If anyone knows anyone who is in either place, please e-mail me because that would be cool to meet someone who might want to show me places... I will only be in Rome for 24 hours about... oh... The subpage could be called "Thanks to Our Sponsors" and have links to internet pages of the show's sponsors. Given the growth in use of the internet for advertising, there must be a few sponsors out there with web pages. AOL must have one. Perhaps we could just list the sponsors we know of and thank them publicly. It's just another way to say "thanks" and take advantage of this internet technology. Then of course we could write to all the sponsors and let them know we're giving them free advertising. (Well, not so free, Jamie's AOL bill must be reaching astronomical proportions given the time she's putting in on the page & the list.... Love ya, webgoddess!) Hey, if coming up with the idea means I have to help put it together, just e-mail me and I'll pitch in! (2) The actual advertisement I recall watching during "Blackwing" on USA last month was not for Spam itself but for Spam Lite. No, it's not an oxymoron (or an oxyGump if the Sony censoring machine is out there somewhere! :). It has half the fat and 1/3 the calories of regular Spam, which means it still has a fair amount, but what do you want, it's canned meat for gosh sakes! I bought two cans of Spam Lite at the supermarket today (none of the local convenience stores had the Lite variety!). At least one can will be opened and taste-tested at my FK party tomorrow -- umm, it's after midnight, so I guess I mean today, Jan. 6. Be there for the unveiling! Yum! Wow, just read the ingredients on the Spam Lite can. It has both pork and chicken. Most of the rest of the ingredients involve the terms "salt" or "sodium"! Hey, you guys who bought regular Spam -- is there any chicken in your cans? Egads, I think it's time to move this discussion to the newsgroup alt.spam! (3) Finally, and on a non-Spam related note, I sent myself a test postcard from Sony the other day and it no longer switches the word ass into elbow or glass into glelbow. Someone must have removed that word from the list of no-nos. But it *still* turns the word moron into Gump and oxymoron into oxyGump. And that "rhymes with duck" thing is still in there. And I'm sending a box of virtual chocolate to anyone who can figure out what word it converts into "sweetie"! ;) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Allison Percy, Knightie percy91@w....... __o Pedal for Forever Knight and the Pediatric AIDS Foundation! _`\<,_ Contact percy91@w....... to find out how to (*)/ (*) pledge your support and/or join the ride! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jan 1996 02:14:55 -0500 From: Annmarie McKee-Fitzgerald <mickey@c.......> Subject: Re: Telemuchen & Capital Cities My apologies if someone else posted this, but the Cap Cities thing has been bugging me for days. Remember in Blackwing, she said she tried "pre-med, pre-law, computers, anything but another officer Vetter?" And do we really think she left college without graduating? Not that little girl. I figure she went to the academy immediately after graduation. And maybe had graduated at age 20 from college. It happens; I did; and my stepdad got out at age 18 (of course, he was an Aggie, how hard can that be? <ducking bricks from Texas>). But that would have to mean that Tracy is... bright? hardworking? kind of worthy of respect? Remember, I'm a Perkulator now! Guilty.. with an explanation. I've posted to the FK bbs with no sig at all, only silly little Vachon things, etc., ... but only because I don't know how to make one. I'm a newbie who got online for the very first time in mid-November, signed onto this list in late November -- and my life may never ever be the same. Adrienne just sighs and says "it's always September somewhere on the Net..." then breaks down and teaches me something. But.. I don't know how to create and use a sig. My mail server is Pine. Will someone teach me? (Incidentally, I agree wholly with Anne M. -- the function of Pine that differentiates personal from list mail is priceless.) Also also... is there a way in Pine to mark "Important" retained messages? I am carrying 600 messages in my inbox alone, plus another 200 or so each in the "FK-info," "FK-useful," and "Fk-cor" files. I don't want to delete them, they're reference stuff, things I bounce, people's names, planning stuff, etc. But I do need a way to mark the press releases and a few other things, preferably with an asterisk. Instead, I've just been forwarding them to myself every 12 hours or so to keep them near the end. I'm five megs over my allowance with my server, incidentally. In one month and twelve days online. Amazin'. C'est la vie. But, I will do this only once and only You had better save that vow for a 4th season resolution. I thought the resolutions were supposed to be difficult things that are good for you, like Jamie giving up smoking. Hard to do, but give it your best shot Jamie. If you eat a Big Mac after 6 years, you'll get deathly ill, or close to it. How about a small 4 oz fillet. there would be less fat involved. |---- Vicki Merriman - vmerrima@i....... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 Jan 1996 01:31:07 -0800 From: Alikhat <alikhat@i.......> Subject: Re: Telemuchen & Capital Cities SILLINESS ALERT! <g> Diane E wrote: >You want a really scary scenario? In one of those odd little conjunctions, guess who was personally responsible for luring Letterman to CBS... yes, friends, Rod Perth. Remember, that was what displaced FK in the first place, though Perth later made a point of rerunning eps when USA was thinking about it, and then brought it to USA himself.
