Hoffman" <choff@v.......> Subject: PR Possibility.... Bear with me; this might take a bit of time to explain. As some of you already know, I'm putting together an abstract that I'm hoping will lead to either an article or a book on the recent fiction war. Since I'm taking the time to put together the abstract, I arranged to have IT published in an online zine called "bad subjects." There are perks for being on the editorial board, after all. So, since I've already claimed the space in the zine for next month, and no one on the editorial board but me knows more than that I'm working with "the internet and fandom" as my article, I can probably write up our current SOS efforts instead of the piece on the war. The zine's focus for the February issue is the internet, so either of the above would work and I could no doubt get away with anything I want in any case since I'm on the production team. The journal goes to assembly on January 29! Obviously, professionally, the piece on the war is better for ME, but if the consensus is that a February 5 publication date isn't too late to do the SOS any good, I will forego publishing the fiction war abstract until a later date. The zine is published on line (via the English server at Carnegie Mellon) and also has hardcopy distribution in Berkeley, New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago, Pittsburg, Jerusalem, Israel and Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand (there are probably other places as well that I'm not aware of; we're not exactly vigilant about copyright since it's available on the net...). We also encourage people to photocopy and distribute the hardcopies at will so we could in fact arrange to have more copies of it floating around the world than usual, if people were interested. So, let me know what you think. If I'm going to write up our campaign, I'll need to get started soon in order to fill the space I've already claimed in the issue. And if you want to check out what the journal is all about, mail me privately and I'll send you the URL. Cynthia Cynthia Hoffman choff@v....... I heard him myself. One of the first questions at the Gerthering was also how to say the name. I think the reason some of us think they hear "Ger-ant" is that the Welsh sound represented by "ai" is not the same at the very tense and forward in the mouth long i sound most American and Canadian speakers use. It seems to be closer to the sound of long i in educated southern American. This sound, too, is often misrepresented by non-natives as "ah." Anyway, if this was the only Ger conference on AOL that I personally know about, I understand he told some people at the Gerthering that he was concerned because the person who was typing for him was paraphrasing his answers rather than giving them verbatim. Maybe the typist typed what he\she thought he/she heard when Ger pronounced his name and tripped over the lack of an exact equivalent sound? Cousin Lisa -- "That will be trouble." Having watched the German eps for the last two years I could have kicked myself for not seeing the connection with Telemuchen in the first place and written to them for help. (their name appears in big bold letters at the end credits.) However, I'm extremely curious as to how the eventually connection and suggestion come to the attention of the list? My friend in Germany had recently phoned and written to RTL the only German station (as far as I know) showing FK, which is actually called Nick Knight there, after the second series had finished and before the cancellation in the US. She was told that they were seriously considering not buying the third series of FK. When FK was cancelled in the US she again phoned and wrote to RTL and today (Friday Jan 5, 1996) she got a email back saying that they were definitely not renewing FK for a third series. She has since gotten hold of Telemuchen's address and phone number and is currently phoning them for any information she can get hold of. I will keep you all informed of her progress as soon as I hear. Again this makes me wonder about the origins of the Telemuchen being the saviour rumour. Why would a German production/investment company invest money into a venture when there isn't going to be a German audience for it? Not that there isn't, from what I can tell FK is very popular over there. They even have a Nick Knight Information Hotline telephone number, which I can tell anyone if they are interested. Also could someone explain to me what happens to FK, if, when, now that USA has pulled their funding? Being from a small island (UK) that only gets five channels, excluding satellite, I am totally confused as to the standing of syndicates etc. Tracey hoping and praying that the knight will remain forever tracey@a....... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jan 1996 13:59:29 -0700 From: Lashoka BirthFire <lashoka@p.......> Subject: Charity cards I just finished clearing out the folder I had created to save my Charity cards while I was away from school and without web access..I think I claimed about 75 cards just now, and it got me thinking....Has anyone checked with soney lately to see what the counts are at? Taylor" <NancyT503@a.......> Subject: Letter from Synd. Station & Misc. Here I am, delurking again, to pass on some news. I wrote to my local station carrying FK in syndication and just got this letter back today: Dear Ms. Taylor, Thank you for your letter and your pleasant programming remarks. We are continuing to air Forever Knight, but we have had some recent schedule changes. Forever Knight will, beginning Thursday, January 4, 1996, be seen on Thursdays, 4:30-5:30am. I appreciate the suggestions you have made regarding the timeslot closer to midnight and more promos for the show, and I would like to suggest you may want to inform friends and fellow viewers of the move and perhaps increase the viewership. Thank you again for you letter and comments. Sincerely, Brian Benschoter So there you go, listmembers in Oregon and SW Washington. If you receive Fox 49 KPDX, please get those letters going. Also, I'd just like to add, regarding a post from Nancy Duemling, that I can tape and dub copies of the show for anyone who doesn't get the show in syndication. Just so I don't get too overwhelmed!! :)) I'm really a happy Knightie these days. First there is the good news, albeit *unofficial*, that Forever Knight is continuing it's third season. Secondly, I will soon be receiving my copies of the second season courtesy of Nancy Duemling (what an angel. I know what I'll be doing next week! :)) ). And lastly, I just received (on Tuesday) my copy of Ger's audio book Hauntings. For those of you out there still waiting, I used the 800 number to order and got the tapes exactly four weeks later. Other good news, Ger introduces himself on the tape, so we get the pronounciation of his name from the source! (It's a hard "g" as in "girl", rhymes with "pear", and the emphasis is on the first syllable, as in GER-ahnt. Hope that clears that up.) Gee, I'm having a happy new year so far! Good work everyone. Keep it up! Nancy T. Knightie, Optimists' Club ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jan 1996 16:44:18 -0500 From: Rae Montor <rmontor@v.......> Subject: Re: FK fans attending Macworld SF? Some of the best Macworld Expo >party experiences I've had have been when I've crashed parties...politely, >of course! ;-> First, the frivolous: the best parties at Macworld are the press parties. Get a list from BMUG (they usually have one around someplace; if they don't, ask me -- somewhere I have an e-contact for it). Some of it is only "by invitation" -- so call the companies and get yourself one. Say you're with The Knight Group, an online service for computer users with media interests. Whatever. Trust me on this one. (See, I really do write software reviews on the side, so I know whereof I speak.) Second, and far more IMPORTANT, Promotional ideas: (Please run these by Cynthia Hoffman & co for feasibility) Small stickers with the SaveFK http and faux-logo: "After the parties, come here for the Knight" "Millenial Macs: Saving the Knight" MANY copies of the Internet Press Release in the Press Room (possibly in full-folder Press Kits, including PAF info) Flyer with "Coolest Website: Saving Forever Knight" Well, you get the idea(s)... Y'know, ANY press room, at ANY KIND of convention, is fair game for this. > In any case, let me know if you have any questions about San Francisco. >I'm a taxicab driver here in SF, and you'd be surprised at the oddball >details I know about SF and its charms. Ah, then you'll understand: a few years ago, the Jasmine press party took over the *entire* Gift Center (yes, all the floors).
