Subject: Re: USA Ratings

If we can run down all the media sources that pick up this news
about USA's ratings, we should *immediately* get in touch with the authors
of those stories in each of our local/quasi local papers with this kind
of pitch:

"Dear Reporter: Saw your piece, and here's a followup story: USA
is being heavily lobbied by fans to save one of its prime time shows right
now, a la the now world famous effort to save Star Trek."
Send along the press releases, and include a reference to the Web
page.

If we get lucky, this could mean more publicity. It's also
another hook for CNN/Hnn to hang a story on: successful cable network,
etc...

Can anyone else do the Washington Post contact? If not I will.

Curiosity: I wonder what USA's ratings were *before* they started
airing their newer schedule (was there an article this time last year
about their ratings?). It might be worth it to try to find out. An
improvement over previously reported ratings from last year would work
in our favor (of course, not much change or a *drop* in network ratings
wouldn't help our cause).

My "if we pull this off" resolution:

I will join the to-be-formed Lisa Ryder Fan Club and wear a *button* that
says "OK, now I'm Perky!" (I firmly stand by my Knightie-hood, though,
and will put on my GWD Fan Club button, too!)

I will make up a bicycle jersey that says "Forever Knight" on the back and
"Lisa Ryder's Riders" on the front (she *is* a cyclist, you know) and ride
my bike from Philadelphia to Toronto to raise money for the Pediatric AIDS
Foundation. (Pledges now being accepted.... :) This tour will end in the
parking lot behind Nick's loft, which might surprise the guys who work in
the collision/auto body shop that is actually in Nick's garage. I fully
expect the Toronto Tour Group to be there at the finish cheering me on!

And I will find some way to watch a bit of the filming of a *new* episode
of Forever Knight. Then I can die happy (sometime in the distant future,
I hope).

Well, I'm off to the convenience store to buy some SPAM LITE for dinner!

Also, has anyone though of taking the SOS FAQ and posting it to LOCAL

already called one board and put the FAQ on Tallahassee FreeNet's Science

Could we get the word out on the non-Internet nets (FidoNet, RoseNet,

Ok. Here's what I did. I tried very very very hard. I don't know if I had
any affect. After he explained to one of the lab assistants about what is
an "internet addict" - someone who's life has been really changed by
using the internet so much, I explained to him that many of you have
stayed up over night working hard on our SaveForeverKnight campaign on
the internet. And then I told him how much money we raised in 4 days for
Pediatric Aids Foundation. Then he was impressed. His eyes lit up and said
"Wow, that's great!" I told him that AOL increased their number of ads on
USA probably because of us too.
(Not exactly those words but very very positive)

I'll have to let you know if any of what I told him gets used. I'm not sure
when it will air. Maybe tonite. He wouldn't take the press release, not even
to hand deliver it to the station. Sorry.

Like I said, I tried. I think part of the problem is he's from a
competing station.

Now, after reading several megs of SOS posts, I am becoming obsessed

Yes, exploit any angle....

I just finished another letter to Kay K. congratulating her on USA's ratings.
(Yes, it was a shameful display of brownnosing.) <g> I also told her that FK
was definitely a top choice in my household. Blah, Blah, Blah.... Hey, we've
got to use everything we've got. Tell her keeping FK is a savvy move. Appeal
to her business sense.

Finally, Susan Clark posted about Mr. Showbiz....

E-mail them! Definitely! I'm contacting the media and sending the press
releases with my letters. Contact USA Today, The Washington Post, The New York
Times, local papers, human interest columnists, everybody. We need lots of
publicity.

Hey all,
I got the news from SSA today that the show is officially cancelled on USA.
BUT it is still in syndication and the they are scheduled to resume shooting
on monday the 8th with only 5 more episodes to go.
The tactic then was to get fans to bombard the syndicated stations so there
will be attention for the show at NAPTE. So call your local station and
strongly suggest they pick it up . Personally I feel this is the end, alas.
GWD (in the Toronto Star) is already planning to move to CA. He will hate
it, I guarantee it, but hey he's got to find that out for himself.
Hey it was nice while it lasted. C'est la vie.

Okay guys,
I've done what I can from my isolated habitat. I have mailed
everybody we have associated FK with, and who may be able to help us save
the show. Today I also passed out the press releases to 3 radio stations
and one newspaper, and emailed the releases to the two news broadcasts
that we have here.

I have to call the person I talked to at the paper tomorrow
morning, but either way they said they would print something. Also two of
the radio stations I talked to brought it right down to the news room,
but I don't listen to the radio that often, so I don't know what they
actually said about it.

There is also a blood drive scheduled here for mid-January, so I
will try and get some friends to come with me and donate for FK!!

Giving up my blood will be my sacrifice for the new year, as I
have NEVER donated, and am not exactly looking forward to it!!

Subject: Hunters, FK cancellation & resolutions

I thought I'd send in a post with a little NON - SOS news. :)

ATV in New Brunswick continues to rerun the first season of Forever
Knight. Hunters was on Monday - one of my favourite shows. That was the
one where I started to <really> like Janette. Of course her hair looks
horrible, but... there was just something about her.

That was also where Schanke started to become more 3-D. For all the people
who have strongly negative feelings towards Tracy Vetter -- Schanke wasn't
written well at first either. He was the target of everyone's jokes, and
was <not> represented as a particularly smart individual.

Unfortunately for us, we may <not> have two seasons of Tracy for us to
get used to her and for the writers to get a better feel of her
character. In the end, it's how she's written in fanfic that will
determine how she's viewed.

Tracy Vetter: how shall we dissect thee? <g> I've explained my view of
the character to a few people (Hi Jane!) but it keeps changing on me. I
do remain convinced that the major stumbling block is the writer's
inability to change the status quo started at the beginning of the
season. Basically (if we win, and they're able to finish the season)... I
want Tracy to <figure it out>! Yes!

Of course my other thought would be for Nick to become human, Tracy to
figure out he was a vampire, and then be totally confused. he he he. :)

Is that enough non-sos stuff? <g>

FK Cancellation: I'm cheering for everyone on this list. All the hard
work that's been done. I'm also sending out my leters tomorrow. Hopefully
it's better late than never. I'm still not sure whether it was good or
bad not to get "the news" until after returning from X-mas vacation.

Keep up the good work.

Resolution: I'll throw in my contribution. If we win, and get the last 6
episodes... No chocolate until the March convention (a serious committment
for a chocoholic) AND I will hand in every single paper due this term at
school ON TIME!!! No extensions!

Did i just type that? %)
