Wrongo! I recently watched an entertaining made-for-Lifetime move on that
network that was about -- ta daaaa -- a man who had fallen in love with a
female vampire. It was quite well made, and even featured a wonderful
musical sequence set to the perfect tune: "Bloodletting" by Concrete Blonde
(the Vampire song). In my view, the casting of the vampiress was the only
flaw. It is true, however, that much of Lifetime's programming is primarily
a bore to us. Much like the magazine PLAYGIRL, Lifetime is a network
produced by males who are SURE they know what appeals to women (and they are
horribly off the mark).

Wouldn't it be wonderful if a "Women's network" were actually that? Wouldn't
it be wonderful if they had the insight to include series that have had
proven appeal to females too?

Just occured to me that I can't send a copy of the nice letter from my local
station about FK to USA -- thats the competition! Too bad -- I'd love for
them to see how well its doing here. But I *will* send a copy to
TriStar/Columbia. Is there anyone else you can think of who should get a
copy of a positive letter about FK ratings locally? Would it help to have
copies of something like that for NATPE (or is that NAPTE?).

Also, will someone please tell me the address where I can send a card to the
Forever Knight group? I want to let them know how much I enjoy the show and
hope to see it rise again... Thanks.

Misogyny in FK, please! The misogyny of Lifetime Channel overwhelms any
misogyny in FK. Any channel that claims to be the "women's channel" and
shows the general dregs, there are exceptions of course, that this
channel shows is not but misogynist.

Remember, folks: tonight is New Year's Eve.

They say that whatever you're doing at the stroke of midnight will
determine what the coming year will bring. In this vein (owch!) I bring
you our collective New Year's Resolution:

To preserve Forever Knight in 1996.

Tonight at 11:59:59 pm Eastern (Toronto) Time, wherever you are, whatever
you're doing: close your eyes and wish for a miracle. Maybe we can create
a little magic...

(Midnight eastern time is 11 pm central time, 10 pm mountain time, 9 pm

Nope. We here in NYC had "Blind Faith" just as scheduled. Both WLIG and
WNYW have been amazing consistent about showing FK, even though it's on
late. WNYW is a Fox station, and oftentimes on Sunday nights things get
delayed by football, sometimes as much as half an hour. Even in those
cases they still show Forever Knight. I plan on giving the station a call
tomorrow to thank them for that! I've heard the ratings for it are low,
but it must be doing something right by them or they wouldn't be so
consistent. I don't think they've missed a week since they began showing
it.

In response to the large number of "inquiries" I received via private
e-mail:

I do not play 'politics'.

I will not be a pawn in someone else's 'political' games.

And if anyone out there would like to make up their OWN SFK web page, they
are of course free to spend their days and nights writing up fifty-plus
pages of source code, and trying to compile the massive amounts of
ever-changing info coming over the list. The "Web Goddess" bit was a JOKE,
for the humor-impaired; my only thoughts in doing the web page were to help
our cause, NOT to play "big shot" on the list. I'm sorry that there are
those who see my efforts as being self-serving; believe me, they were
anything but.

We would probably be a great deal more effective if people spent their time
writing letters to TPTB, instead of writing flame-mail to fellow
listmembers.

In any case... I only hope that those people who made my New Year's Eve so
"happy" had a similarly "good" time themselves. Karma, y'know.

I, too, am glad Deb is doing the list (and have said so, privately). Now
that she's got it organized, and can add new people as they come on board,
it seems more than great to have her there, doing that.

BUT:

Fact: The purpose of the list is, indeed, "to help people know who to
contact about certain things." And who in the name of Whatever is more
important to contact than Jamie? (And who else has two addresses -- one for
Webpage business and one for all other correspondence -- that should be
publicized as having them?)

Fact: When Deb first asked who was running what (and said she was having
difficulty locatin ghte information), I posted to her (cc to the List) a
full list. Jamie was very much on it. Jamie didn't have to ask her: I did.

Fact: Jamie didn't say she was ungrateful. She said she was in pain. These
are different things.

Now we go from fact to opinion:

Opinion: When we cause pain to others, however inadvertently, we should
apologize. We should not complain that they don't appreciate us: we should
apologize.

Opinion: Whatever work we do for the Cause should not be at the expense of
the individual humans involved. If we hurt someone (and it's almost always
entirely by accident), that is a signal that we should stop what we're
doing -- just for a moment -- and comfort the person in pain. After that,
it's more than reasonable -- it's pretty much requisite, for our own egos
and sanity -- to say it was unintentional, and ask for a sign that not only
that we are forgiven, but that our intentions and efforts are appreciated.
Most people accept apologies like that very well, and give reassurances in
return. (I know from personal experience that the actions I have just
described are what Jamie does when she has accidentally hurt someone.) Then
everyone goes on together, understanding each other better and being
friends again.

Apology, forgiveness, appreciation, understanding -- all things we can all
use to make our time here (and I don't mean just on this list) better. And,
while all those things take a bit of time and work, they are (opinion
again) much more valuable than just "chilling".

Peace.

I'm here, Cal. (Yes, I'm about to be writing to Cal privately.) I got all
your messages. But I was offline for about 24 hours. I, too, breathe
sometimes. ;)

Will get responses to all my Wonderful Web Elves, and post Arisia Group
information to the List, very soon. Let me read the incoming, and then
post.

Good New Year, all. %)

Right, having just signed back on the list I have now visited the save FK
site and got the address of KK. I shall send a letter of course, polite as
always.
They have only just started showing FK over here (England) although I
have been getting tapes of the shows for a couple of years now. Maybe if
they can see there is a market abroad it might help. Who knows. I can but
do my very small bit to add to the larger whole.

I taped both showings of FK this weekend. Here are the national
advertisers that I saw. We need addresses for them if we don't already
have them.

Nissan Centra or Ultima (was shown twice)
Windex (from S.E. Johnson Wax)
McDonalds
Halls Cough Drops
1-800-COLLECT
Maalox (was shown twice)
DranoMax (was shown twice)
Contac
Campbell's Chunky
Dimension Films - "From Dusk to Dawn"
Sprint
Cool Mint Listerine toothpaste (with the scary man)
Alka Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine (which I think we have. I seem to remember
writing to them last week).

Hope this helps. Oh, this is probably more for the east coast, but one of
the local ads I saw was for Petland Discounts.

Subject: Reaching Off-List Fans

Hello,

One of the biggest problems we face is, of course, reaching off-list FK
fans. Well, Arisia (sp?) isn't the only sf/f/h convention out there :),
and literally thousands of people attend these events all over the
country. As many of these events are fan-run, they're unusually open to
helping other fans with a problem like ours.

Even a small convention listing would take up a lot of room here, but if
you'd like to find one in your area, try searching Yahoo in the
http:/www.yahoo.com/Entertainment/ section under "Science Ficiton,
Fantasy, and Horror" category. There are dozens of convention listings
under the "Conventions" heading. If you don't have Web Access, feel free
to drop me a note and I'll see what I can find in your area.

I contacted a few in my area and they were happy to include a "Save Forever
Knight" flyer in their mailouts and/or make them available at their events!
I've put together some of those fold-and-seal message-grams
(pre-addressed and stamped) to take with me to the cons I attend. Then
all I need is someone to scratch down a few words, sign it, and drop it
in the nearest mail box :).

Incidently, while wandering through the listings, I came across this one:

"PRISONERS OF THE (K)NIGHT. Holiday Inn Yorkdale, Toronto, ON, Canada:
1-800-HOLIDAY; rms C$89/$65. Guests: Deborah Duchene, Nancy Baker.
Multi-media convention devoted to the vampire genre. Memb: C$30 if
booked into the hotel, C$46 otherwise - rates good until 11/1/95. Info:
Prisoners of the (K)night, c/o David Cracey, 203-23 Oriole Rd., Toronto,
Ontario: {E-Mail} maryannbmc@a........ March 29-31, 1996"

For those targeting the media, it can't hurt to mention that there are
enough fans out there for a convention, fans willing to spend their
hard-earned cash on the travel and expenses involved in attending a con.

Just my latest two pence.

Keep the faith,
Ngaire

Sherri, that is a wonderful letter! More than wonderful -- it is a clear,
rational voice from one of the people we have sometimes referred to as
"them", saying that "they" are on "our" side. (Well, you know that part --
but what I'm saying is that we may have discounted that very real alliance
in ways that were unknowingly self-defeating.)

And all I'm absolutely sure of at the moment is how much I'm smiling!

Thank you SO much for posting that. %)
